Terrible food and poor service. The grilled pork collar was overwhelmingly salty and spicy. I let the server know and asked if the dish could be adjusted to make it less salty and less spicy. She simply said, "Unfortunately, no," and walked away. Overall, every dish we had was too salty and heavily over-seasoned. The spices completely overpowered the main ingredients, so it was hard to taste the actual flavor of the food. Thai food here is good, but it's very pricey. This is an upscale Thai restaurant as opposed to a hole in the wall. One thing that's good or bad depending on what you like is that their menu is pretty small. I like that because it makes ordering a lot easier but there's not as much options as one might be used to going to a typical Thai restaurant. You can definitely tell they use quality ingredients, but not sure if it's worth the price given the portion. I do appreciate that their food is designed to be shared. Service was quick although they did forget one of our orders, which was fine because we were pretty full anyways. One other nice thing is this restaurant is close to Little Italy and some small shops. read more

It was our last night here in YUL for the '23 GP. We were all tired from all of the drinking and eating we've done over the past few days. Am fortunate to have a friend who suggested the perfect meal to end our trip, which was Pichai. I think we all wanted some comfort food since we've been away from home for the past 4 days. I didn't take notes as to what we exactly ordered so hoping I got it right. Kai Loong Keuy - soft boiled eggs that were lightly fried. Excellent way to start the meal as this was awesome. Hai Yang - lightly fried fish balls w/ sweet/spicy sauce. Loved the dipping sauce and was so good that we ordered it again at the end of the meal. Kor Moo Yang - perfectly grilled pork w/ a sauce that really packs a punch as you eat. Served with sticky rice which helped a bit with the heat. Was a bit strange they served raw gai lan with this dish. I've never eaten raw gai lan before so ended up leaving it. Tofu Thoke - perfectly fried to a golden brown and served with some sort of sauce. Was tasty! Laab Ped - this is a traditional Thai dish but with a unique twist as it was made from duck instead of chicken or pork. Loved the bits of the foie and definitely was spicy. Gaeng Panang Jaay - vegetable red curry which was good but strangely served with 2 bowls of rice. Wished we had a bowl earlier to go with the other dishes. Was decent but I've had better. Cha Yen Tiramisu - this was the perfect way to end the meal. Better tiramisu than what we had the previous night. A definite surprise at how authentic almost all dishes were and will definitely be back next year!! read more

Cute resto in a great location! It was pretty full on a Friday night so I would recommend making reservations esp if you're planning to visit on the weekend. We sat at the bar and the service was super friendly. I'd recommend the dumplings, sautéed cucumbers, and the Thai iced tea tiramisu. The dishes we ordered all happened to be on the salty side so I'd also recommend ordering other dishes with that in mind to balance out. You won't get typical Thai dishes here - worth trying out for a creative twist! read more

Excellent Thai food! Quality- my favorite was the swordfish curry. The light curry was sweet, tasted fresh, and had a good combination of vegetables to compliment it. The swordfish was tender and cooked well. The dessert was very unique too. I was a fan of the shaved ice with natural lime and fruit. The pork belly was crispy and had a nice healthy layer of fat to provide flavor and juiciness. Quantity- you get a good amount for the price. Atmosphere- nice outdoor seating area. Pichai is the big brother restaurant to Pumpui in Montréal. It's a more upscale Thai place for family dining. It is currently ranked #45 on Canada's 100 Best Restaurants. We made formal dinner reservation for the patio on the same day, unfortunately it was quite windy and they moved us inside. Known for Thai Issan cuisine, the chef doesn't hold back on spicy heat! But we had a mixed review about our dining experience at Pichai. Staff were helpful in translating the French menu for the day. It was struggle to find non-spicy dishes on the main menu that the entire family could enjoy. For appetizer, the grilled veal tongue with a Thai miso sauce was a decent start; it was tender & resembled steak a bit in taste. Accompanying herbs & cucumber helped balance the meatiness. For mains, the grilled swordfish came in a spicy red curry sauce that only one of us could enjoy with rice. The fish itself was too firm and rather bland inside. The grilled hanger steak salad was served with an assortment of herbs, toasted rice powder & lemongrass on top. The tender meat flavours were bold but overall was too sour & salty for us despite sticky rice. We were surprised about moving to bar seating when it was empty at opening time. Stools were uncomfortable by the end of 1.5 hr dining. There were also too many routine bar interactions for our comfort. Most disappointing meal while we were in town. read more

We've eaten at 20 of the 28 Montréal restaurants on the Canada's 100 best list and out of all of them Pichai is easily the worst of the bunch. I'd rather eat at Red Tiger... First what was good. The wait staff were all pleasant and young and punky but knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Our waitress picked a great bottle of wine we really enjoyed. Also the shave ice dessert was 10/10. But, I'll never be back because the food was an overly acidic mess. I've eaten a ton of great Thai and Vietnamese (my indonesian sister in law just made us Laab this week!) and while it does tend to the acid, it's nowhere near what Pichai does. My mouth was raw from the amount of lime juice, and all five dishes we ordered had the same flavor profile, all chili and lime. 3 out of 5 dishes had toasted rice on top. My wife and I both agreed 10 minutes in that we could barely tell the difference between dishes, everything. Just blended together. Also, all the dishes show up at the same time, so 45m from being seated all our food was on the table. If it wasn't for taking our time with dessert and finishing our wine we would have been out of there an hour and ten minutes in. Terrible pacing! Lastly, and this is really unforgivable, they have a pork collar dish, that is just diced pork chop - the fact that they would pass off such a standard cut of meat for what should be a collagen filled delicious cut really just shows that they think their diners can't tell the difference between high quality ingredients and preparation. A bunch of dudes named Jesse might think this is what great Thai is like but those of us that have had it can tell the difference. My review is based on 3.5*. Heard a lot of good comments about this place so decided to give it a try on girls night. Located in Rosemont, parking isn't so much of an issue (+there). The restaurant has a hipster feel to it. When looking at the menu, it is on the pricey side given the size of the dishes compared to authentic Thai restaurants. Ordered a beef cheek curry and was quite disappointed. Thai curry is usually quite creamy and fragrant with the coconut milk, galangal and lemongrass. To my surprise when the fish was brought over, it did not look at curry at all. As a matter of fact, it didn't even taste like curry. There was also very few piece of beef for a $35 dish which is pricey. Then had the eggplant salad - wasn't bad but quite blend. The morning glory was surprisingly good and spicy. The stems were very crunchy meaning they were very " young ". Last fish was the fried fish with tamarin sauce. This one added a 0.5* to the overall rating. The fish was fried throughly and you can even eat some of the bones and fins because they were so crispy. The tamarin sauce also married well with the fish - would recommend this dish. The restaurant has a pretty big wine list but very few by the glass. Overall food was Ok but I would not come back given the price point and you can get much better/more authentic Thai food at a much lower price point. read more

On our last night in Montreal we decided to check out a new ish Thai spot instead of going for more classic French food. What a great testament to Montreal's international food scene. The laab ped was fantastically spicy, with the right balance of sour. The veal tongue, a more modern Thai interpretation of a western dish, was tender. Morning glory also had great flavor and texture. Swordfish was cooked al dente with a nice curry sauce. Overall, laab ped was most certainly our favorite, but they did a great job on all the dishes. read more

This place is incredible! Staff was friendly and helpful to us two dumb Americans, and we felt more than welcomed. When we were looking at the wine list, our server let us know they had a few by the glass, and offered to let us sample them before committing. We had the papaya salad, which was phenomenal, could have been a little spicier to me, but I know everyone had a different threshold. We also got the beef rib special with peanut sauce, the pork ball noodles and the Thai tea tiramisu. If I could dine at Pichai everyday I absolutely would. Thank you! read more

Poor service. Overcharged by 10 dollars. Small and loud. Spicy mushroom dish had no spice.

1. Food is exquisite, authentic, and prepared and served with a high degree of thought and authenticity. I have not eaten Thai food like this elsewhere in Montreal. It would have been nice to have another noodle or rice item on the menu. 2. The service was good, especially considering the restaurant was at capacity. I was greeted kindly, and seated within a few minutes of my reservation time. The staff seemed happy to speak English or French, and offered menus in either language. It would have been nice to have the menu for daily specials in both languages as well (it was only in French) but the server was able to explain everything. 3. My main hesitation to recommend this restaurant to others is that the other members of my party and I found the atmosphere to be claustrophobic and noisy. This is partly due to their being loud club type music playing. The other factor is the restaurant has too many tables for its space, especially in the rear section of the restaurant where we were seated. We were all the way against the wall and their was a claustrophobic feeling. We had to all raise our voices significantly to be able to hear each other at the same table. It is possible that if you sit outside on the patio in front or maybe in another area of the restaurant this could be alleviated, or maybe try not to go during Peak weekend hours and maybe it will not be as crowded. Still, I feel that if the music were lower, there were better cooling and Air conditioning, and maybe one or two tables were removed from this section of the restaurant to make it feel a bit more open, the atmosphere would be greatly improved. read more

I can't say enough good things about this place. It's worth going out of your way to eat here. In fact it's quite accessible, especially by metro. A 5 minute walk from the metro. The service is excellent. Ambiance average because the tables are crowded together. Now for the food. Not only was every dish we shared absolutely delicious (5 dishes for 4 people), but every dish was original, using herbs and spices that stimulated my tastebuds to the utmost. I tasted flavors I've never tasted before and 24 hours later, I'm still thinking about how exciting the meal was, including the dessert of flavored ice shavings. Jesse and co. have come through with some dazzling flavours. The menu is just as (not) extensive as that of Pumpui, their sister location, but is quite different, and packed full of surprises. Don't let a plain description on the menu fool you, these dishes pack quite the punch. We were impressed with some of the daily specials, a dry curry chicken swimming in green peppercorns and a wonderfully acidic eggplant salad, which punched me in the face with fish sauce. Yes. Overpriced and not worth it. I love thaï food and this is the worst I've had. The rice came in a plastic bag and was so overcooked it stuck together and it was impossible to tear it apart (we had to use our hands). We had tofu with tomatoes pretty flavorless. The rest was really over slated. We had the cauliflower "salad" I am still wondering where the cauliflower was, it was more like a salted crumble with a huge branch of mint on top. We also ordered the salmon which had a ton of dill on it and for me really tasted like canned salmon... all of us were disappointed by this meal. read more

The servers were so accommodating towards my tables food restrictions (4/6 had allergies so we practically had to have our own menu :p) But to top it off the food tasted crazy good and would def go again. Just looking at the items listed on the menu has me excited to try this spot out as I hadn't seen many of these dishes on the Thai restaurants I've been frequenting, and there are many! Street food you say? If this is what street food looks like in Thailand then I want a one way ticket... There wasn't one item in the menu I didn't like but I need to tell y'all that the duck magret dish which was one of several dishes on their Daily Specials was one of the best things I've tasted in ages! Other dishes, like the seared scallop salad or the cauliflower laab were so flavourful and nicely balanced, it would blow your mind! Although prices may be higher than expected for a small plate portion, I wouldn't hold that against them as the quality was certainly there! Add the friendly service, laid back vibe and nice variety of natural wines to the list of pluses and this restaurant is surely a winner in my books! read more

A visit to Pichai is a real treat! What I love is the vast array of flavours and how well they go together. Since it's a menu that is meant to be shared (2+ dishes per person), every visit comes with the opportunity to taste new dishes. At my last visit, I especially loved the swordfish (Gaeng Som Pla), the clams (Hoi Lai Pad Lam Prik Pao) and of course the papaya salad (Som Tam Thai). It's a delight to eat at Pichai! After spending years in northernThailand I can say with confidence this is the best Thai food I have had outside of the country. The regional dishes are I spot on, the flavours authentic, the sticky rice perfect. The restaurant is beautiful inside and the staff are warm and welcoming. Incredible wine list!
