I love this place. I tried one of the restaurants around the corner that was also Nicaraguan food and it just did not match up to Restaurante Managua. My husband and kids love this place as well. The food is authentic, delicious, the queso Frito is bomb. The portions are great for your money's worth. I love that they also carry Milca and Rojito. The prices are great here too. I've tried one in LA and Ifeel as if they are overpriced. This place is local for me and I crave it every time. Glad I've found a place that I can eat the food I love. There is one restroom for patrons. The place makes you feel as if you are at home. Not fancy, just perfectly welcoming. The nacatamales here are so delicious too. Full of meat. Not like other places. My mom's side of the family is Nicaraguan and I've lived in the country myself so we hold our Nicaraguan food to a very high standard. That being said, it's a bit difficult to find good, authentic Nicaraguan food in California. We stumbled upon this place by happenstance and were pleasantly surprised, we decided to give it a try because why not?! So glad we stopped in! Didn't notice the name till we were inside, which was cute; they're called Restaurante Managua. Managua is the capital of Nicaragua and is also where I happened to live when I was there, we have plenty of family in Managua so aside from the menu full of deliciousness it brought back so many wonderful memories! My mom got a nacatamal (Nicaraguan style tamal wrapped in a plantain leaf) and a cacao and we were pleased to see it come out piping hot with a bolillo. I got the #4 a breakfast option with gallo pinto, plenty of platano frito, crema, 2 pieces of queso frito. The nacatamal was great and the platanos and queso frito tasted just like the ones I'd get by my tia's house in my beautiful Nicaragua. I got pitaya to drink which is my favorite beverage from Nicaragua and I was so pleased with their rendition of it. They also have a curtido that was amazing! Had to get a little side to go with my leftovers. The decor reminds me so much of my grandma's house and makes me miss my relatives so it was a really nice setting for us. The music they play is great also, a lot of the music was what my aunts and grandma would often play (a lot of bachata). The staff was kind and inviting so I'm sure we will be back to try more of the menu! read more

Tony, the owner however needs to take a math class to learn how to add. The bill was wrong, he added extra cost to every plate and added the total wrong too. He was rude when we first entered, we hadn't been there for a minute and he said are you ordering now or later. He charged $3 dollars for a Costco Water and said he couldn't serve regular water because the water mixes with the sewer. I should've walked out then. So I'm Mexican but whatever I'll give my input. So I came here thinking I was at another nica restaurant, but it's ok. So I'm Mexican but I have a cousin who is half nica and have a lot of friends also that are nica in fact 1 lives in Managua. Anyways came and didn't know what to expect, and I must say Pretty good! Great place to eat bring in family and everything. I'm impressed. Seen a lot of comments about the guy that works here, and yeah he's kind of weird but that's just him what are you gonna do, came here for the food not here to care about how he greeted us, with that said his service was good. Also seen some write about prices but seriously let's get real, any Mexican restaurant or similar is just as expensive stop the BS. The only thing that might be hard will be parking I will say that, but you can park at northgate market. Stop being a bunch of pussies, I'll give it 4 stars. read more

I stumbled upon this place a day I was going to the other Nicaraguan restaurant around the corner. They had recently opened so they didn't even have a sign up or city permits. Since then boss lady and I are fans of this place. It's run by a funny man and it's like a one man show. He has cooked, served us and charged us every time we're here. I don't understand how he does it all to be honest with you. He says there's more people helping him during the weekends though. He has never messed up our orders and gives great customer service. Food is really good. It has this homemade taste I love in my Nicaraguan food! I've only tried certain stuffs on the menu but nothing has dissapointed me. My favorite is the carne asada estilo mercado. Which is tajadas, carne asada with queso frito and salad (charbroiled beef with plaintain chips, fried cheese and cabbage salad). Cacao is pretty good here too. I also like the beef soup. Very filling and perfectly shareable between two people. Boss lady loves the nacatamales. She is hard to please with her Nicaraguan tamales but she raves about this ones. She always take some home. I like that the owner tries to make dishes' presentation as they do back in the homeland. He also sells goodies, beers, etc. I really like this place and recommend it to everyone to give it a try. Street parking only. read more

I liked the food, is pretty authentic but I'm very disappointed that they don't have a menu in English. This is the second time I go there and I have been with non speaking Spanish friends, having a menu in English is a must. The other thing is that the music was so loud that we could barely talk, we had to raise our voices to be able to have a conversation....so please turn the volume down. read more

The prices on the menu are outdated and overpriced. The music was so loud you could not have a conversation. The food was salty, old, and dry. The place was not clean at all I asked for an extra knife and fork and they were not washed properly so I asked for a plastic one the owner got them with his dirty hands I cleaned them with my disinfectant .Owner was handling everything (music, food, tables) and of course he needed to change his dirty shirt. I, along with my sisters stumbled upon this place when Segovias(thats around the corner) the place we were originally going to eat was way too crowed. Heres why im giving it 1 star When it comes to Nica food, you cant mess it up! you just cant, but this place for me and my family just didnt do it. First of, customer service was ridiculous. As our waiter started taking our orders, with two orders in, he quickly excuses himself walking away to another table because they wanted to add another to theirs. uh what? Second, on my sisters plate she found a strand of hair on her food!! As she attempts to discreetly tell the waiter, he responds loudly with "what? where i dont see it! I dont see it show me!" therefore taking the dish back in the kitchen also letting the cookers know there was a hair. Saying " this lady says there was a hair on her food, you guys dont see it huh?" Third, when you walk in, by the counter theres a fundraising box to help those in Nicaragua; in which i saw thievery take place, and heres why. As we eat, this lady walks in giving a speech that one of her daughters is very ill, she then goes around asking for donations. to my suprise, the waiter is attending one table thats already getting up to leave. You can over hear him say " ill be back ill make some change" thus walking towards the cashier desk (near where the box sits) and you quickly see him dive his arm inside grabbing funds. Then walking towards that family again. As the lady finishes her rounds, starts walking towards the door, the waiter then approaches her and also gives her money Lastly, my whole experience wasnt too great. I always with friends so we order the parrilla which has chicken, pork, sausage, beef and a choice of fish or shrimp with tajadas, Fried plantains and cheese, yucca, rice/beans and a cabbage salad. The food is amazing, very authentic and great quality, the service was excellent and fast, portions are generous. Growing up my family and I had a local restaurant we used to always go to in Azuza. My grandparents come from Nicaragua but they came with just themselves and their kids, with that being said, ITS HARD AS HELL TO FIND ANY NICARAGUAN RESTAURANTS AROUND HERE !!! My grandma is getting very tired and she hasn't cooked in a long time, and Azuza was just too far of a drive. At first we were skeptical because of the most recent reviews but honestly I just really wanted some food from my childhood so we walked by... Just like the most popular Nicaraguan restaurants in LA this place was not the most dated in regards to the set up, but it was still so cute/clean inside and very welcoming in my own personal opinion. The man sat us down and served us immediately, the cook started cooking our food right away and the music/vibe of the restaurant was pleasant. The person who joined me agreed and he usually never has this sort of food. The pricing is reasonable considering inflation and the prices of the other Nicaraguan restaurants (all similar if not the same). The food was mf bomb but this comes from a woman who considers all of the above into the plate. This food was good and I have zero complaints about it. Sure maybe you've had better gio pinto from moms cooking but if you don't have that luxury, definitely stop by this place and give it a try! I don't want to say that the other reviews were useless but here in this review I really wanna say this place is just as good as any other Nicaraguan restaurant I know of and if your used to prestigious restaurants then maybe you will feel the same as some other people.
