I had one 1on1 therapy session and the lady Tracy made me feel so uncomfortable, mocking me and speaking down on me, telling me to put my big girl pants on. When she saw I was uncomfortable she said "sorry, we like to laugh here" very unprofessional seeing as I had just joined rehab and obviously my life is not great. Apparently they had issues with my TRICARE insurance. Tricare is one of the best insurance. It's government insurance. The lady Nora said my insurance covers everything, and I can even check in the next day. So I flew in from out of state, 3 flights later, with my 1 year old son. I stayed for a week. I called Nora to give some feedback on my experience this morning, she then replied "so are you leaving today?" I said no, my insurance said it'll be 2-3 days for the new referral to go in but I will be looking for a new facility. She says okay. She was very defensive the whole call and made excuses for everything, even trying to blame me for the insurance issue. that's your responsibility lady! Next thing I know I got pulled into the office saying if insurance isn't fixed today I have to leave today. I packed my belongings and left within 30 minutes. They did not give me the opportunity to find a new location, they did not give me any grace, and did not care about me at all. Point blank. This is very serious for me seeing as I left my baby son to fix my life, and they kicked me out before I could figure out my next moves KNOWING my insurance would cover the costs. The way they handled things is shameful. And I would really reconsider if you've been thinking of this place. All we do is read a page off a book, reflect and share. Absolutely no 1/1. No depth. No finding solutions or understanding the trauma that led me here. They claim to do yoga and meditation, except they don't. Apparently no staff, Maybe that should have been mentioned! And removed from the site! Absolutely NOTHING was mentioned by anyone here. They basically put me in my room and left me to figure things out on my own. The lady Nora everyone speaks so highly of, that I was in contact with the whole time, was not around ever. She had said "I'll see you at 11" for my check in, and she was not there. I told her I was disappointed I didn't get to meet her and she stated that's not her job she's outpatient and doing paperwork so she's not at the house? Ok! They don't tailor groceries for your liking like they claim! She says that's not in the budget. But we are more than welcome to order stuff online. So WHY is it on the website. The website does NOT reflect this "facility". They gave me so much medication, 3 times a day, and when I mentioned I was constipated and had rectal bleeding the response was "idk, I'm not a nurse. You can buy something from Amazon" like wtf? This place was the absolute worst first experience. You get your own room, and you have a nice back yard but that's about it! I would not have written this negative review if my conversation with Nora went differently but she was defensive the whole time and cut me off to ask if I was leaving or not. This place is NOT what it claims to be. The only good experience was Debbie. So helpful and kind. Thank you Debbie for understanding me and giving me hope.

They said I was two months ahead of schedule and on top of that the food is pretty good fresh with a nice variety of greens and protein. The nurses and the nurses aids are all top drawer if you're unlucky enough to end up in a rehab facility it will change your luck if you end up here I highly recommend Palomar health rehab rehabilitation out of five stars. I wouldn't recommend this facility for a patient that requires significant help or has mild cognitive impairment. Post stroke she was wheel chair bound and required assistance for everything. In summary: Dr. B was excellent. Thoughtful, problem solving mindset and treated patient and family with respect, and some humor when appropriate. Rehab Team: Competent and caring. Speech. OT AND PT good therapists. Management: Poor. All patients receive 2 consecutive days with no therapy. That is 2 days isolated in your hospital room with no activities. This is truly detrimental to the healing process. In my experience this exasperated anxiety and feelings of isolation, reversing progress made during the week, disturbing sleep cycles and recovery. It's very important if you are considering this location for a loved one that you reflect on this. Your loved one will be sitting in a hospital bed for two consecutive days with no interaction except a nurse popping in to check on them briefly. Of course family can visit and we did, however it is not a substitute for professional engagement. This workaround that administrators have finagled to ensure patients hit the certain hours required while limiting weekend staffing is absolutely horrible and very transparent in their motives. Nursing Staff: Very inconsistent and overall not good. Didn't appear in alignment with goals of therapy. I didn't feel safe most of the time with the quality of care my mom was receiving. Not all the time, there were a few standouts that were excellent, but overall very lacking. I share this info. so if you're considering this facility you know what to expect. And with hopes that administrators will make changes for future patients. When searching for a rehab facility I admit I was influenced by the the gold star ratings from outside organizations, but after my loved one's experience, I realize this is more a reflection of savvy administrators working to get accolades from governing bodies vs. true gold star care.

Before I came to this facility, the nurse liaison, Sarah, sold me on this place. What a phenomenal salesman. She knew I was eager to get Good physical therapy. I've been diagnosed as a partial quadriplegic. I've held the deep belief that I could improve if I could get the right physical therapy. She convinced me that would be the case here; I would receive the best physical therapy, with the best facilities, with the best trainers. I'm on my seventh week without physical therapy. Why? The same Sarah is also somehow the one responsible for getting my letter of agreement to the insurance company. For seven weeks she simply hasn't done this. Why would she? I'm not a person after all, I am an insurance payment. If you happen to run into Sarah, she is a great spinner of stories; none of the stories are true. I was getting RNA until they head-trainer Frank, canceled the program. In a phone conversation with him I tried to explain that I thought there was a miscommunication in regards to the cancellation. He repeatedly talked over me. Not letting me get a word in He repeatedly said, "I don't care what you have to say, I canceled the program." Frank's favorite things to do are moping around and watching TV (not training patients). Recently after coming back from PT I had a new roommate. The roommate I recognized from a previous facility. He assaulted numerous employees: kicking, punching, even throwing his own feces. He is not sane. Imagine the shocking horror I experienced when walking into my own room and finding him feet from my bed separated by a small curtain. It took less than an hour before he threatened me telling me he would **** me up. k*ll me. These aren't empty threats. He has further assaulted at least two employees here. A nurse heard this and he was moved to the room next to mine. We now share a bathroom and a door that links our rooms together. So he can now walk into my room and carry out his threats whenever he's so decides. Imagine the fear and anxiety that are my constant companions in this godforsaken facility. This man can walk, i am partial quadriplegic. I am not safe here. It's hot on my side of the facility because they keep the windows open to outside. Why? Because the stench of urine and defecation is so strong and overpowering coming from this patient Room that the windows have to be open to mitigate the smell. He urinates and defecates in his bed. He refuses to be washed or cleaned -and with the threat of assault who would want to clean him anyways. The administration regularly has 5 CNA's on the floor for 74 beds. That is 14.8 patients per CNA. That is budgeting patient-care out of the building. "They got it", says Jay the administrator when made aware of this predicament. No Jay, they don't. Jay is the third administrator in the year-plus I've been here. Patient- care (or a lack there of) is at an all-time low. The collective morale contained within this facility is at an all-time low. Experienced employees are being fired or leaving and being replaced by 22-year-olds with zero experience (why pay an experienced CNA when you can hire a one with no experience for much cheaper). One of these was put on the floor without finishing orientation in a section he had never had. The incompetence and carelessness of this administration is concerning, it's frightening. My quality of life in this facility is one of constant anxiety, sleepless nights, and complete the dehumanization. I can go on and on with the truth about this place. About how, for instance, I was pushed out of bed by a CNA who said I fell out of bed because of my "bad attitude" (does that mean she did it on purpose?). A new administrator who didn't introduce himself (Jay)came in my room and told me he wanted me to "feel safe" (not to be safe). The fact is: I'm not safe. Like a street preacher proselytizing, here I am trying to keep one person out of hell. Will I be further punished and denied physical therapy because I write this. I very well may be. So be it. If you read this, believe me: to lie in a bed here is to forgo your humanity. Don't come here.

There were several very good nurses including Christi, Rosio, Ana, Susanna, Mericel and Hector, to name a few. I did experience a small handful of not so great CNA's that were unpleasant and lazy but overall I received good care. They did run out of my pain medicine on 3 different occasions, one lasting almost 24 hrs when I was supposed to be receiving every 3 to 4 hrs. They did one time go into the emergency med kit to give me one dose during this time. Food not bad. Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy was amazing!! I worked with Katie, Dori, Jennessy, Tierra, Jalwad, Ivan, Aldren, Jazmin Theresa and Bailey. They worked with me through exercise and physical challenges to rehabilitate me and it worked. Overall, most people at the facility were very nice, helpful and would address any concerns promptly. This was my first time at a Skilled Nursing Facility and my experience took a little time to get adjusted to but at the end I was very grateful for everyone. I want to give a shout out to the entertainment Director. She is bubbly and super kind. The perfect person for this position. The facility can use some new equipment in p.t. I would give a c+ on cleanliness. Bring sanitizing wipes. Just saying.

I am writing this as I prepare to leave Villa Rancho Bernardo after nearly five years…read more I have lived with a spinal cord injury for approximately 27 years and came to VRB with established bowel and bladder care requirements--medical necessities, not conveniences. During my stay I was assigned to Fairmont, Wellington II, Lexington, and Santa Fe. Despite those moves, I experienced recurring concerns with completion of my bowel program and missed scheduled suprapubic catheter changes. There were also attempts to coerce me to remain in bed on a scheduled seating day. Because I depend on staff for transfers, had I succumbed to that pressure, it would have affected my independence, routine, and quality of life. A resident should not feel that staying in bed is the only option because assistance is not willingly provided. I repeatedly advocated for myself and participated in meetings. Ultimately, the options presented did not provide a long-term solution compatible with my needs, so I chose another placement. Kyle Dawson (Administrator): It was a pleasure to officially meet you for the first time during what became my final VRB meeting. Thank you for the confirmations of "no" that helped resolve suspicions of my own. Your comments about checking seasoning expiration dates and random tray pulls reminded me of HBO's Getting On. Dark comedy suddenly did not feel so far-fetched. Food has been one of the most persistent complaints I heard during my stay. In my experience, much of it is highly processed, vegetables are often overcooked, and residents have jokingly called the chicken "suspicious" and beef "mystery meat." Checking seasonings and occasionally sampling a tray cannot address concerns about taste, quality, waste, or residents not wanting to eat. I especially commend families who bring meals and spend countless hours ensuring their loved ones are cared for. Your presence does not go unnoticed. To families and staff: advocate, listen, and BE KIND. Everyone is human. To staff who used VRB as a stepping stone and moved forward: I saw myself in you. Keep pursuing work aligned with your purpose. Staff set the tone of a resident's day, and residents deserve care from people who want to provide it. To anyone considering working at VRB or placing a loved one here: know your rights, document concerns, and advocate. Resources include the San Diego County Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program, California Department of Public Health (CDPH), San Diego County Adult Protective Services (APS), and California Labor Commissioner's Office--Division of Labor Standards Enforcement (DLSE), when applicable. My believed Grandma Vasquez has the unfortunate experience of dying at this facility. When she entered at 95 she was walking with walker but the facility had her in the bed or wheel chair the entire time at the facility. In her last days she was in excrusiating pain. Fast forward 30 years, and this place was going to let my dad drown in his own fluid because they didn't take his edema seriously. Although my dad has AFIB, diabetes, and Renal failure, they did not order dialysis or a pacemaker. Thank goodness I listened to my gut and called 911. Two months later and my dad is 30 lbs lighter and is no longer on oxygen.

They definitely know what they are doing and haven't forgotten where they came from. They all care and want to make sure you learn life skills and how to maintain your sobriety. Im learning so much about myself and I've never known who I was until now. I recommend you take all the groups and classes they have to offer
