This patronizing statement was clearly meant to deflect responsibility and silence a vulnerable, young patient who had just trusted him with her body. The result was not only physically disfiguring, but emotionally devastating. At the time, I lacked the personal and emotional support to pursue legal recourse. However, with time and reflection, it's become undeniably clear: I was negligently and carelessly operated on, and the trauma I endured has left lasting scars--both literally and psychologically. To be specific, Dr. Umansky's surgical execution resulted in: Sloppy and uneven internal tissue excision Poorly closed incisions, resulting in significant scarring and dog-ear deformities Asymmetrical areolas, with nipples more than an inch off from one another Long-term disfigurement that has made any corrective procedures extremely complex and costly Despite my desperation and embarrassment, I reached out to the office manager shortly after the surgery to request even a partial refund so I could afford reconstructive work elsewhere. My plea was coldly denied and ultimately ignored. The lack of professional accountability shown by both Dr. Umansky and his office was reprehensible. It felt like a hot poker. Afterwards they cover the huge 18" scar with Kotex pads and send you home. My scar became infected and I had many painful treatments afterwards. The lipo on upper back was a huge mistake. They take the fat out and leave you with two saggy folds of skin up top. Obviously if they had been honest about the huge, jagged, scar, the saggy back skin, the torturous pain during the procedure I would never have signed up. It took two months to recover from this, the first month dealt with painful, scary infection. I would give them a - score if Yelp allowed it.

My belly would swell on occasion as big as someone who was 7 mi the pregnant. Finally they had me just walk in while leaking and swabbed it. It was an infection. They recommended seeing a plastic surgeon since they deduced it may have been from my plastic surgery. I called Sono Bello in San Diego thinking they would be able to at least see me. They had no record of my surgery and wouldn't help me at all. I finally went to a plastic surgeon I was familiar with in Claremont. Here we are in 2026 and I just had surgery yesterday to remove infected sutures in my belly button. The infection had gotten so bad the hole in my belly button was the size of an eraser head. Sono Bello was nice as could be when taking my money but the fact they had no record of my surgery or refused to even try to help was appalling. The day after my breast augmentation surgery, i had enormous bruising where the blood had pooled on both of my sides, at my hips. Shumway skipped my appointment and left his resident to see me instead. My implants were too far apart and the resident tried to move them toward the center by taking each one on both hands and pushing them inward. It was extremely painful 2. I was told to call the office any time with any questions after surgery, but when i did I was made to feel like a nuisance. I kept having to ask about when to start massaging, and every time i asked, the patient care coordinator asked me back if the doctor had told me to start. I wouldn't be asking if he had! 3. I lived out of state so had to do virtual video consults for my follow up. At about 4 months, i expressed concern about the implants being too high (my nipples literally point downwards) and too far apart - one of the implants is so far to the outside that i have underarm hair growing out of it. Shamway's response was, "Well you wouldn't want them down at your waist would you ". That's beyond bad besides manner. Oh how i wish I'd seen a different doctor. 4. After a couple of these virtual visits, i shared that i was not comfortable using FACETIME since its not HIPAA compliant. I asked the patient care coordinator about using HIPAA compliant software and even sent her names of some free software she said that FaceTime is secure. IN YOUR IMAGINATION!!! Regardless, it's not HIPAA compliant. THEY ARE SO UNPROFESSIONAL. He offered to address my concerns by doing another surgery, and wanted to charge me $10000 - this was $2000 MORE than what I paid for my original surgery with him. If he couldn't get it right the 1st time, why would I expect him to get it right the 2nd time? No, thank you!
