But Kristan has become a place of comfort for our family in those trying times. They're reliable and reasonable, both in profession and price. My family has, for the most part, stayed closely grouped together. Which means that throughout the years I've been here more times than I'd like to have been. I've been a guest, and host, to services here, and can't recommend it enough. The downstairs area gives some reprieve from the sadness in the main room, and allows people to split up and have conversations. They allow snacks and beverages down there, which can help kids get through a long sad day by providing a break. Kristan is family owned and operated and has been forever, and they'll treat you like family if you use their service.

I felt like I had a friend helping me through what is always a difficult process, and Abby and all of Kolssak's staff made it easy. I also received a lot of positive feedback from friends and family who attended the funeral. One last detail that you might not consider when selecting a funeral home - Kolssak is one of the only funeral homes in the area that has windows. The day I lost my mother, I spoke with him expecting compassion, patience and professionalism during one of the most difficult moments of my life. Instead, I felt dismissed and disrespected. Throughout our conversations, he repeatedly interrupted me, talked over me, and even threatened to hang up the phone. Rather than listening to my concerns, he continued trying to persuade me to purchase an urn from his website after I had already explained multiple times that I had purchased one through Amazon. This was my first experience making funeral arrangements. I'm an only child, my father had already passed years ago and now I had just lost my mother. I was navigating the entire process alone, overwhelmed, grieving, and simply trying to do the best I could. Instead of receiving understanding and guidance, I felt like I was treated with impatience and hostility, which only made an already heartbreaking situation even more difficult. Over the course of a little more than a month, I spoke with Mr. Giancola approximately 5 times, and at least 3 of those conversations became unneccesscarily confrontational. I remained respectful in every interaction, addressing him politely, saying "please" and "thank you" and doing my best to communicate calmly. Unfortunately I did not feel that same respect was returned. As our conversations continued, I began to feel that I was being treated differently. While I cannot know the reason for his behavior, the experience left me questioning whether bias may have played a role. Regardless of the reason, I left every last conversation feeling unheard, disrespected and emotionally drained. It is heartbreaking that my mother's final arrangements are associated with such a negative experience. During a time when families need empathy, compassion, and professionalism the most, I did not receive any of those qualities from the OWNER. Based on my personal experience, I cannot recommend this funeral home. I hope no one else has to endure additional stress and emotional pain while grieving the loss of a loved one. But not only was that enough for him, he learned of my review and I'm assuming didn't like what was said he reached out to a family member of mine who happen to live in Chicago because I live in another state and this family member happened to be the one to go pick up my mother's remains this guy ( MARK THE OWNER) convinced my relative who only interacted with him twice and is unaware of the horrible experience i had, to leave a more positive review for his liking which was absolutely irrelevant being that my relative only spoke to Mark twice then Mark (THE OWNER) calls me today not to apologize for his actions but to remind me of how "helpful" he felt he was and how "comforting" he's been to me and advised me to reconsider my review and give him points for allegedly being "helpful" and "comforting" the nerve of this guy!!!

They helped with setting up picture boards, putting together a memory slide show, replying fast to all email correspondence and after the funeral sending my mom home with thank you cards, and all keepsakes. My family member that passed away lives in Gurnee so that's where the funeral was. Even out of town planning was easy here. When my dad passed away we looked at other funeral homes as well but this one was the best price as well. They even helped with the transfer of estate checklist and death certificates and where to mail them.
