Take My Death Away…read more For the past year or so, we had been planning a family vacation to Hawai'i to celebrate my parents' 50th wedding anniversary. But, as our luck would have it, literally two days before we're set to board the plane, my grandmother (selfishly) decided to pass away. Well, as one can imagine, this did not sit well with my mom, and she wanted to cancel the whole deal. After much cajoling, we were able to get her on the plane, and part of that making her feel better was my sister suggesting we have our own ceremony while in Hawai'i to honor her. This is where Kahu of Hawaiian Ceremonies took over. My sister contacted her, and she responded quickly over text. She then proceeded to interview my sister in order to get some background information about my grandmother to use in the ceremony, set up a time and date to meet, and the rest was cake. She even got the necessary permits to hold the ceremony at the beach. The ceremony was beautiful, succinct, and, best of all, made my mom feel better so she could enjoy the rest of her time on the island. This review is embarrassingly overdue, as we have just celebrated our 3rd anniversary. But I can still say that the service we got from Lori and her team were excellent. Lori has a time tested process for gathering information for all her weddings, and the planning and organization of all aspects leading up to the event were great. There were a million decisions we had to make while planning our wedding, and Lori guided us through this process all the way through- flowers, tables and chairs, music, food, drinks, wardrobe, makeup, etc. etc. And once the day arrived, Lori and team were on-site from dawn to dusk, ensuring that the plan we so carefully prepared was executed flawlessly. Her goal is for the wedding couple to enjoy their day, without having to lift a finger and to be completely stress-free. I think we appreciated that the most (especially after seeing how stressed many of our friends were at their own weddings because they didn't have Lori!) Only after our wedding did we discover from our guests how much work was done behind the scenes- such as a guest breaking a glass on the beach, the wrong type of table being delivered to our site in the morning, lights not having been hung correctly.
