I resigned to wearing a hat again and wasn't sure how long I'd be stuck like this. I needed a relatively small number of grafts to fix it. Several other surgeons didn't want to bother helping me or wanted to charge me a high minimum fee. Furthermore my donor area was in bad shape and they didn't want to do the hard work of finding viable grafts. A friend received great results from Dr. McGrath so I contacted his office. At this point in my hair restoration journey I've been to a handful of different hair transplant doctors worldwide and I can say easily the entire team at McGrath medical provided the most compassionate and artistically superior result of them all. From the beginning his consultant Steve carefully reviewed my needs. It was more like talking to a friend than an employee. He understood exactly what I was going through and even offered alternative strategies to fill in the gap in case it wasn't convenient for me to fly into Austin to see Dr. McGrath (from California). But after seeing my friend's results and talking to both he and Dr. McGrath I knew I needed to prioritize finding the best Dr. Not the one who was closest to me. Another issue I had with other Dr.'s is they didn't seem able to spare even 5 minutes to listen to my concerns and what I hoped to achieve. Both via video consultation and in person Dr. M reassured me we'd take as long as necessary until we both had the same understanding of what I wanted to achieve and how it would be done. In addition the price was very reasonable. The day of surgery went very smooth. Through skill and artistry he extracted 1,500 grafts and filled in all the gaps. I felt no pain and was out of there quickly. The hard wait of several months for the hair to grow passed and I am now thrilled with the result. My hairline looks totally natural. No gap and no signs of having a hair transplant at all.  When you go to Dr. McGrath you not only are getting work done by an artist but by a physician with the highest level of ethics. The fee for the consult rolls into whatever treatment you choose. I brought my husband with me, as I knew this was probably going to be a significant investment, and Shanna made us feel right at home. We talked together about my options, and then one of her clients agreed to talk to us about her experience as well. I felt totally comfortable with the option I picked, and Shanna was not pushy at all in upselling more expensive pieces. Everyone there is DILIGENT with wearing masks, wiping things down, and having hand sanitizer available, so no worries there. Once my piece was ready, I went in for the install. This is the first time I wore hair, and it was very overwhelming, but Shanna and Jeni are so encouraging, it really made it fun. I had some issues with that first piece (to be expected as it wasn't custom, but semi-custom), and Jeni touched base with me several times to make sure I was happy with it and to take notes on any changes that needed to be made the next install. Since the cap was a little too big for my head, I had some lifting at the hairline, but Shanna fit me in for a quick touch up at the very last minute as I was leaving town. She also did a quick trim to shorten it slightly and blend better with my own hair. The next time I went in was to remove the first hair piece and install the second. Shanna requires you buy two so that your piece is ready to go when you get there. No waiting to clean adhesive off the first and get it ready, which is nice and not something I would have thought about. It takes an hour or so for removal. This time Jeni had altered the cap so that it fit my head better. It's been a few weeks now, and I just love my new hair! This is an expensive process. Both buying the hair and the upkeep. But if you are finally ready to do something that works and makes you look and feel great immediately, it is totally worth it. And Shanna really goes out of her way to make it a fun, supportive atmosphere. She won't pressure you to get more than you need, and she'll be honest about what will work and what won't for you. Stormy worked with my existing unit and helped give it some more life while we ordered a new one. For the new one, she suggested that I do "perimeter" bonding instead of using glue everywhere.
