A terrific experience. This is the best hair restoration center in the country. First, you meet Leah, a highly trained and personable profession. Then Steve who is absolutely amazing and knows just about everything there is to know about hair restoration. Then you meet Dr. McGrath and Dr. Hughes, who really approach hair restoration as a medical practice and not just a run of the mill clinic. The procedure was done under light sedation and not painful at all. The med techs were very skilled and trained. I went to about ten specialists and chose McGrath because they were the most professional, knoweldgeable and their fees were fair, unlike some of the national clinics. I researched them very carefully and they had well deserved high reviews. I travelled from Houston to Austin for the procedure and am totally happy with the care I received. Dr McGrath is a BUTCHER! 3 months post op and I still have a 1 1/2 inch bald strip on the back of my head from the donor area. The bald spot on top is still bright red and pimply with no visible hair growing. I called and said I had concerns and Dr McGrath would not meet with me instead his associate spent a lot of time talking about Aspen groves and surgical trauma. Due to progressive hair loss and less than perfect results from another surgeon, I had a large gap between my hairline and the rest of my transplanted hair. I've included photos so you can see for yourself. This looked unnatural and awkward. The exact opposite of what you hope to achieve from a hair transplant. I resigned to wearing a hat again and wasn't sure how long I'd be stuck like this. I needed a relatively small number of grafts to fix it. Several other surgeons didn't want to bother helping me or wanted to charge me a high minimum fee. Furthermore my donor area was in bad shape and they didn't want to do the hard work of finding viable grafts. A friend received great results from Dr. McGrath so I contacted his office. At this point in my hair restoration journey I've been to a handful of different hair transplant doctors worldwide and I can say easily the entire team at McGrath medical provided the most compassionate and artistically superior result of them all. From the beginning his consultant Steve carefully reviewed my needs. It was more like talking to a friend than an employee. He understood exactly what I was going through and even offered alternative strategies to fill in the gap in case it wasn't convenient for me to fly into Austin to see Dr. McGrath (from California). But after seeing my friend's results and talking to both he and Dr. McGrath I knew I needed to prioritize finding the best Dr. Not the one who was closest to me. Another issue I had with other Dr.'s is they didn't seem able to spare even 5 minutes to listen to my concerns and what I hoped to achieve. Both via video consultation and in person Dr. M reassured me we'd take as long as necessary until we both had the same understanding of what I wanted to achieve and how it would be done. In addition the price was very reasonable. The day of surgery went very smooth. Through skill and artistry he extracted 1,500 grafts and filled in all the gaps. I felt no pain and was out of there quickly. The hard wait of several months for the hair to grow passed and I am now thrilled with the result. My hairline looks totally natural. My name is Lance Fuller and I am the author of the hair transplant blog and YouTube channel My Follicular Journey.com. Since I was 28 years old in 2014, I have had four hair transplant procedures performed on me; two large FUT/strip surgeries by another surgeon and two FUE procedures by Dr. McGrath. My blog features hundreds of photos, dozens of posts and videos of my recovery and progress from my four procedures, all of my research into hair restoration surgery, and what I have learned from this journey. When I first started this journey in 2012, Dr. Daniel McGrath's current patient educator Steve Cook was one of the first people I ever spoke with about hair transplants. Steve worked for another surgeon at the time and he immediately impressed me with not only his extensive experience of his own transplants but also treated me like a person, and not a commission. Given the type of industry where patient educators and hair surgeons make their living based on commissions and numbers of surgeries sold, it surprised me right away when I first spoke with Steve and he recommended I NOT get a transplant. Compared with so many surgical practices that push high-pressure sales pitches into making you think you'll be bald tomorrow and needed to book surgery yesterday, Steve was the first honest person I spoke with and always has looked out for the patient. Dr. McGrath camouflaged my scar and softened the frontal hairline so that I could cut it much shorter than I previously could, and it looked great in time for my best friend's wedding later that year. It has been one year since I have my FUE procedure, and couldn't be happier. I researched a few other places before making the commitment and decision to go with McGrath, and am so glad I did. Joan Rivers, rest her soul, has a personal motto... "better a new face coming out of an old car than an old face coming out of a new car. Spend your money on you." I turned 34 this year and was getting married. I knew I had receding hair, thin hair, and had "settled" with my look until I woke up one morning and looked in the mirror and wasn't happy with how my hair was progressing. Some men look great balding and can totally pull it off. I was unfortunately looking like a thumb, so I started researching options and treatments. They have a treatment where you inject your own plasma into your scalp, wear a hat with small red lights, even a 2D micro blading technique. Some of these options were significantly cheaper, but The results of the FUE were so much more dramatic and promising. I had the surgery a year ago, and it wasn't too bad. It's about 6 hours or so, but feels like 45 minutes with the meds you get (haha). You are given a 10 day supply of antibiotics and creams with an instruction packet of when/what to take, when to wash your hair, and when you can wear a hat or beanie. One of the other benefits of this procedure is that there is no scarring. (Yes the first couple days the back of your head looks scabbed and gross from where the air follicles were pulled out, but literally day 4 this wasn't noticeable) No line scar in the back of your head where it will stand out for life, and my barber always comments when she does a razor bald fade on the back of my head how she can't tell I had surgery a year ago. Of course if you have longer hair, it looks even thicker, but I like to wear my hair shorter. A year ago, I questioned the cost vs benefit for this, and am SO glad I went through with it. I no longer look at my hairline whenever I see a picture of me, and get comments by friends and family about how my hair looks good. Dr McGrath also hand picks the follicles and transplants them manually (you cant feel this). Some facilities use a machine that was a little cheaper (not by much), but Dr McGrath is different than a machine because he actually inspects each follicle to determine if it is a good transplant candidate or not, and also places your hairline in a more natural way compared to a machine and assistant (that may or may not have the experience he has). I would not recommend Skin Envy/Mcgrath Medical in Austin Tx. I received a Prp treatment here for hair restoration. I was told that I would only need one treatment and the cost was $3500. After finding myself unhappy with the lack of results and zero replys to my messages and phone calls, I decided to further my research. In doing so I consulted with 3 different doctors, all who provided me with honest, substantial information. At all three locations I was told a series of THREE treatments are recommended for Prp hair restoration. The price I was quoted at all three places was $1200 for a package of FOUR treatments!!! I do not appreciate the false information I received and I also do not appreciate being taken advantage of. I recommend doing a vast research prior to accepting outrageous, unethical treatment plans. read more

I went to see Dr. McGrath about hair transplant surgery. I had already consulted with two other doctors but Dr. McGrath was the only one who really understood what I wanted and put me at ease about the process and results. I had the transplants done two months ago and am excited with the preliminary results. New hair is starting to grow in and it looks very natural. Great experience! After a ton of research, I chose Dr McGrath for my transplant, as he is one of the best in the country. The results are amazing after 9 months and I can't believe I waited so long to make the move. It is crazy looking at my "before" pictures, as I always thought the thin hair I had on top was providing some cover. My mind was playing tricks on me! Steve and Dr McGrath are straight shooters and were truthful about everything, unlike most of the other commercialized high pressure outfits. They openly told me what I needed and what I didn't, even if they earned less money. The staff was great and they made a stressful experience easy. I have spent approximately a year working with Steve Cook and Dr. McGrath. I started losing my hair around age 25. Even as a physician I didn't know that much about hair loss. So, I started using oral medications (Propecia) with side effects. Steve suggested I try topical finasteride and we had communicated on a regular basis until a 6 month follow up. Unfortunately, I didn't respond much. I continued to talk with Steve on a regular basis. He gave me his personal number and we continued to work through what the next step would be. They weren't sure if I was a candidate for a hair transplant based off of skype and photos 6 months after we started talking; therefore, I met a surgeon closer to me who they recommended. Ultimately, I had a procedure through this surgeon (because of my how busy my practice is and the distance I am from Texas), but I couldn't have done it without Steve Cook. He would respond in a timely fashion and would even respond to me on the weekends. He would look at my photos and genuinely cared if I would be a candidate. He even consulted one of his mentors and shared my photos and story to see what the best procedure (FUT vs FUE) would be for me. He was never pushing a hair transplant on me. Honestly, he will tell you if you aren't a candidate and won't sugar coat anything. He truly cares about hair loss and the stress, anxiety, etc that it brings for most men whom it affects, especially early in life. A hair transplant is a huge step and he made it MUCH easier. There is a lot of misinformation on the internet and he is honestly one of or the best resources readily available for men contemplating hair restoration surgery.
