UPMC Presbyterian Emergency Department - like i said, not a fan of having students practicing putting iv in me :(

Several years later and I would have to prefer Presbyterian over Mercy overall and my own doctor…read morepractices there but some of the nurses are clearly disinterested and preoccupied with their own nonsense to really care much. A minority percentage anyway as there are some great caring nurturing nurses to be found at Presbyterian... Seems like some of the floors you get a room to yourself on like Mercy where you usually have a roommate unless you are in the rich person section I guess... There are a lot of rooms at Presbyterian that do not have a view of anything other than the heating and cooling Machinery on the roof or inside of the building whereas pretty much every room at Mercy has a good view

What struck me most was the apparent "staff vs. patient" mindset. Instead of patients feeling…read moreheard, respected, and supported, there seemed to be an adversarial atmosphere. I witnessed staff making comments that came across as rude, dismissive, and unnecessarily antagonistic, which only escalates frustration rather than resolving concerns. I also heard loud cackling at the nurses station, about a nurses new found sex life- congrats. And a nurse summarizing the all dogs go to heaven movie to her younger colleague who didn't know the movie. Tons of staff walking around eating their Memorial Day party meals that consisted of tons of food around potentially infected patients ((gross)) I chose not to engage in confrontation. Instead, I requested to speak with the charge nurse, made phone calls, submitted concerns to the patient representative, and filed a complaint with the Joint Commission. I also observed patients in hallways without adequate privacy and a constant security presence walking the units. It made me wonder whether some of the aggression and conflict they experience could be reduced if patients felt their concerns were genuinely heard and if they were consistently treated with dignity, respect, and compassion. A culture of mutual respect goes much further than one of confrontation.

After a significant stay of over three days, which included a surgical procedure, I can confidently…read moresay that Allegheny General Hospital (AGH) provides truly world-class care. I am highly impressed and incredibly thankful to be a part of the Allegheny Health Network. From the moment I arrived, the quality of care was evident. The entire staff--from the administrative team to the dedicated doctors, nurses, and surgeons--were not only competent and talented but also genuinely friendly, patient, and attentive. Every question was answered with care, and I always felt respected and prioritized during my recovery. Beyond the medical excellence, the hospital environment itself was superb. The rooms were impeccably clean, and the attention to hygiene was constant and reassuring. Even the food was delicious and provided great comfort during my recovery. I was also deeply touched by the thoughtful details, like the substantial care package and the puzzles provided to help pass the time--a small gesture that made a huge difference in making the long stay feel more manageable. Allegheny General Hospital exceeded every expectation. If you are facing a stay or surgery, I would highly recommend AGH without any hesitation. This is an exceptional institution.

AGH emergency department was like third world country. I witnessed a very sick woman with a bag for…read morevomit sitting in a wheel chair, she fell out of the chair and was lying on the floor. I went to the triage area and reported the problem, it was not new to them. She had fallen out of her chair earlier in the afternoon, she had reported it to the appropriate folks twice and nothing was done. She was so sick. I saw a police officer and two staff members literally step over her, offered no help. My 96 year old aunt had been brought in via EMS, I was not allowed to go back and see her, they were to call me when she was ready. They never called me back until I insisted I be able to see her, I found her sitting in a wheel chair in the treatment area in her urine. She had asked several workers to take her to the bathroom, no-one helped her, hence she urinated on the floor, no-one cleaned that up. Someone needs to address the care at this madhouse, it was deplorable. Where is the compassionate care?
