Unfortunately, I left needing a new stylist--and with significantly more hair cut off than I requested--because it wasn't cut straight the first time. I asked for it to be evened out, but it was overcorrected, and one side ended up even shorter than the other. I will now need even more cut off to have it fixed. I don't ask for layers, bangs, or anything complicated--just a straight, even trim. Yet my hair is still uneven by almost an inch. While I understand that hair grows back, this setback means I now have to wait even longer to donate it. I'm very upset. My hair was right at my tailbone before and now it's about 3+ inches shorter and clearly uneven.

I had enjoyed the healing touch of a Reiki trained massage therapist back in Tampa where we moved from. I thought I would never be fortunate enough to find another healing touch such as his,, but Nadia is amazing at her massage pressure & her ability to provide healing energy. I love her Salon Suite for massage therapy time - great music, perfect lighting, and healing energy permeates the entire space. Nadia is part of my monthly self-care routine. Alli Carter has become my new hairstylist in Raleigh, and she is fantastic at her craft. She listens to what I am hoping to accomplish with my super fine hair, and she styles according to me wanting to grow it out just a bit during the winter. My work and schedule have changed and that meant that I needed to find a new stylist. I looked up reviews (she gets rave reviews) and then called and asked specifically if she worked well with curly hair (she said she was comfortable with curly hair) and let her know that my plan was to go from long, curly hair, to a long, curly pixie (short cut). Set the appointment. Got really excited! Arrived 20+ minutes early to have time to get a feel for things and make sure we had time to discuss the cut/plan. I barely had a consultation. Was in and out in less than an hour - super quick for such a major transformation. Ordered some curly cream to pick up the next day, and expressed some concerns about the sides still being really thick. Joanna said she would be available to fix any bits that bothered me. (Totally reasonable for there to be some things to adjust after playing with it - it was a big change.) When I called the next day to make sure I could pick up the curl cream and let her know I needed some adjustments with the bottom layer, she didn't have the curl cream (miscommunication between us) and didn't have an opening to fix my hair for a week. That felt like a long time to walk around frustrated and self-conscious about a transformation cut... but, I took it and worked with the cut. (Which now took more time to style than long, curly hair.) Then, on the morning of the fix appointment, Joanna texted early to say she needed to cancel and offered to reschedule... a week later. I offered to come any time during that day. But, she was double-booked all day. (I was going to be out of town - part of the reason I had really wanted to get it finished and be happy with it, since the events I would be going to were very picture-heavy.) I was so frustrated with her lack of commitment to me, as a customer, and with feeling like I couldn't trust her to take my experience seriously. I didn't take the next appointment offered. (It would have been 2 weeks since the original cut.) And eventually decided to find someone else to "fix" it. Joanna is super nice. I think she is likely very loyal to her longterm clients. Based on my experience, though, if you have curly hair or are looking for a very new "do", I can't suggest her. I never felt like my experience or my hair were her priority. What was a very exciting thing for me turned into something I had to have "fixed" by someone else. (Now, it's too short ... but it's not a blob on the side of my head, so that's cool.) I've paid for two haircuts. (Joanna's was the most expensive cut only + tip I've ever had). And I was too self-conscious to happily pose for pics on a really important day for our family. I really, really hate to leave a non-positive review for anybody. We all have bad days. But, this needed to be handled better and I don't want anyone else to go through it. Hair is a big deal. We need to trust the person messing with it.

K Elizabeth had great reviews that made me decide to give it a try. Although they don't offer online scheduling, they are very flexible and made scheduling easy. It is a quaint salon off St. Mary's Street in downtown Raleigh. There is parking behind and a little on the street (if you are lucky). About 3 weeks prior to my appointment, I got silly and colored my hair with Clairol Color Crave Semi-Permanent in Scarlet; let's just say my hair was RED. This stuff lasts 15+ washes; there's an understatement. After weeks of washing, my hair was a faded red/orange ugliness. I work from home, so not too many people thought it was CRAZY. I walked in and promptly apologized to Maddie for the condition of my hair. She was concerned that highlights, etc. might damage it due to the WONKY color, but she accepted the challenge. She spent a lot of time figuring out the best way to get rid of or remove/reduce the red. After working her magic, my hair just had minimal hints of red, and looked AWESOME! I was VERY impressed with Maddie and the team at K Elizabeth. They are all very friendly, and I could have spent more time watching them interact and just have fun.

This salon definitely knows what their doing when it comes to color - I've never had a better experience with getting exactly what I ask for at a salon! You do have to park on the street, but generally you can find parking no problem, and I do recommend calling well in advance for an appointment (especially if you're doing color), since they book up pretty fast. Price is pretty affordable as well and the entire team are sweethearts!
