She's my fairy godmother of skin products. She was able to point out that my products were all wrong for my skin type (I thought I was oily but actually my skin was merely overproducing oil because it was dehydrated for the past decade) and that most of my "hydrating" creams and moisturizers had a shocking number of dehydrating ingredients like alcohol denat, sulphates, and others that I wasn't educated on. The ingredients in my products were counter-acting each other and she was able to see that my acne (tiny white bumps all over my face and eye lids) were akin to an allergic reaction to this bad combination of products. During that time, therapists went through a rigorous audition process, and the front desk was encouraged to receive massages from different therapists so we could better understand their strengths, pressure levels, and techniques when making recommendations to clients. There are several long-time therapists I still highly recommend, including Izumi, Mico, Charles, Grace, Napa, and Heather. They each have their own style and may not be the right fit for everyone, but they are all talented practitioners. Recently, I booked a massage with Maria. She was very kind and professional, but the massage itself was disappointing. When I booked, the front desk said "Maria is unaware of how strong she can be, but she is very strong" which I thought was great because I'm a hairstylist and carry a lot of tension in my neck, shoulders, and upper back. Unfortunately, despite asking multiple times for more pressure, the massage never felt firm or deep. Instead, it felt more like oil was being spread around the muscles rather than any significant therapeutic work being performed. What surprised me most was that around the 50-minute mark of my 60-minute session, Maria asked if there were any areas I wanted additional focus on because there were only 10 minutes remaining. At that point, I realized I had not even been asked to turn over. This was the first massage I've ever received where the entire session was spent on one side of the body without any discussion beforehand. I actually left feeling like I needed another massage afterward. This was the second disappointing experience I've had since the ownership change. While I still highly recommend several of the long-standing therapists, I personally can no longer confidently recommend therapists I haven't experienced myself. It also seems like the front desk is unaware of the practitioners techniques and strength. It's unfortunate because prices have increased over the years, while my experiences at the facility have not reflected that increase in value.
