Yelp really came through with my search for a tree trimming company. I found RF Tree Service with a lot of reviews and a 5 star rating, so I gave them a call. They responded in a reasonable amount of time and I set up an appointment for an estimate. Tony came out and was great to work with. He listened to my wants, explained what would be best for my trees and we agreed on what to do. He then wrote me out an estimate with a great price. On the day of the service Tony was here along with the crew to get them started. Before he left he introduced me to the person in charge (brother-in-law) who was also excellent to work with as he had no problems hitting a couple of areas that I wanted a little bit more trimming done when they had finished. They did a fantastic job and it was obvious when they finished that they knew what they were doing. Several friends/neighbors have commented on the great job. I had two very large trees to remove, one in a bad location, and one very dangerous as it had partially fallen and was leaning on a power pole. Additionally, it was in a precarious location which necessitated a multi-property cleanup. The work was performed quickly--even managing to come a day sooner, which was very nice! RF Tree Service did a beautiful job trimming our large live oak tree which is in our front yard. A few weeks afterwards we changed insurance companies and they wanted the tree trimmed back in a manner that would have made the tree not only look awful but would have unbalanced it. I call Tony. He and another member of their team came to look at the tree. They really didn't want to cut it again but said they would if the insurance company insisted. They agreed to write a letter to the insurance company explaining their concerns about the tree. The insurance company accepted the letter and agreed that they would continue to insure our home. I had two big palm trees die suddenly before Thanksgiving. One about 30ft, the other 10ft. Response time to set an appointment was very quick, Tony came out and was very professional and pleasant to converse with. He and his crew were at my house first thing Saturday after the holiday and had both trees removed within a couple of hours. Including stump grinding. I was most impressed with their clean up, from rebuilding the retaining wall they needed to dismantle to grind the stumps, to even cleaning all the tree debris from the pool. I have lived in Spring Shadows for 30 years. This is a wonderful small company started by Lorenzo Romero. I met Lorenzo back in the early 1990's and he started taking care of my trees back then. I completely trusted Lorenzo and his work. Lorenzo's nephew, Tony Sanchez, now runs the company. I cannot say enough nice things about Tony. I trust him as I trusted his uncle. They do excellent work at a fair price. They have good equipment and proper manpower to do the work quickly and clean-up after all the cutting is done. After reading the reviews on several tree services in Houston, I was wondering if there were any good ones. I found positive reviews on RF Tree Service and gave them a call. I left a message on Saturday afternoon and Mary followed up with me by text shortly thereafter. I set up an appointment for Monday afternoon for an estimate. On Monday, Tony got stuck in 290 traffic, but he let me know he was running late, which was appreciated. He wound up only about 10 minutes late. He reviewed with me what I wanted - lift the canopy on 2 oak trees, thin out a pear tree and take down a cedar tree that was being crowded out by one of the oaks, including grinding the stump. He gave me the estimate and we agreed on the day of the work. I was gone when the guys came out to do the work, but they did exactly what they were asked to do. The oak trees and the pear tree looked great, no trash was left behind (even a couple of dead branches I had cut down and left on my driveway) and the stump was ground down on the cedar tree as promised. I was happy with the price, but I can't compare it to any other services, because the other 2 services I called for estimates (I won't name names, but they have a number of poor reviews) never bothered to return my messages. I would use RF Tree Service again as they were prompt and did exactly what they were asked to do when they said they would do it for the agreed upon price. read more

I initially contacted RF Tree Service to quote on trimming trees as well as remove a couple overgrown oleander's. Although the initial quotation was a bit higher than I had expected, and I was surprised that a written estimate had not been provided until I requested it, I was generally pleased with the focus on detail and professionalism of the initial visit. I delayed several weeks to ponder the plan, and when I then requested that they send me a written quote, they had to come out again to review the scope of work because so much time had passed that it was no longer fresh in the estimators mind. After I received this written quote - which was the same price as before - I again requested they come out (for a 3rd time) because I wanted to expand the scope to remove all of the trees entirely which had originally been quoted to be trimmed. While many companies may be less than happy that I seemed so indecisive, RF Tree Service was very responsive and promptly scheduled a time convenient for me to come out for the 3rd time to quote again. They arrived exactly on time, but somehow did not hear the arrival at the door and about 15 minutes later I discovered Lorenzo had dropped his card on my door to indicate he had been there at our agreed time. I called him to confirm that I was in fact home but had not heard his knock at the door, and rather than suggest another appointment would have to be made as I expected, he immediately drove all the way back and was very pleasant and happy to do so. I was impressed with his attitude, and upon providing the revised quote I decided to proceed with their service. The date originally proposed to begin the work was sooner than I had expected, and on a day inconvenient for me. I requested another day, and they were very happy to accommodate. Lorenzo and his crew arrived at exactly the time they said they would, and worked very hard throughout the entire day. I was impressed not only with the quality of their work, but also at how attentive they were to protection of my property, and their diligence in cleaning up the resulting debris. I really got the feeling that they cared about delivering a top-notch result and clearly focused more on ensuring I was very satisfied rather than the "get in - get out as quickly as possible" approach of many contractors. Any request I made was accommodated with eagerness and a smile, and I feel they did at least as much work as we had agreed if not more. At the end of the day I asked that they cut one more tree down which had not been part of the plan, and there wasn't even the slightest hesitation on their part even though the crew was otherwise finished and about to pack up to leave. The following day one member of the crew came back and spent the entire day grinding all the stumps. It was very tricky as he had to get the machine in some incredibly tight areas, and avoid a plethora of sprinkler water lines and control wiring. He did an amazing job navigating, and it was obvious the amount of attention he put into avoiding any damage. His diligence and efforts in this regard were beyond what I expected, and even when I told him it was ok if he accidently damaged the sprinkler system since it looked all but impossible not to, he worked very hard by hand digging all around to locate all the lines and successfully avoided cutting anything. At the end of the 2nd day when all the work was complete and Lorenzo came to check and be sure I was happy with the results, I noticed one more area which I had forgotten to mention I would like to have trimmed, but wasn't sure how far to go with it since it overhung my neighbors yard. I suggested to Lorenzo that I needed to speak with the neighbor before deciding how to proceed. Even though it was not part of the scope of the job as quoted, Lorenzo said once I decided how much I wanted to trim, just to give him a call and he would make another trip back and trim it at no charge. Impressive! Overall I am very pleased with this company and their professionalism, and would highly recommend their service. read more

RF came in with the lowest bid several hundred dollars less than the next lowest bidder. The person that came out was very nice and the person I talked to at the office was extremely friendly and personable. So I went with this company. They did an excellent job going above and beyond what I had asked for. Before I paid the bill, they wanted to make sure that I was perfectly happy with the work they had done.
