When we bought our house in 2019 Roy's crew did a new panel upgrade to 200A and ran new 240V lines for HVAC and jacuzzi and connected to new solar. In the contract was also a 240 line for an EV charger under the house so that it would be ready for hookup once we bought an EV and he verbally assured me it was there, ready to go, and he could hook it up once we bought the charger. When we bought an EV in early 2024 we discovered that there was no 240 line in place. But after several weeks of cajoling (my calls and texts were incessant), he did make good with sending a crew out to run the line that was already paid for 4.5 years earlier, and to his credit he did ONLY charge for the cost of connecting the charger (which was understandable). But rather than a single run line of #6 with 60A circuit as is recommended for this charger, his crew ran a cheaper setup of 40A breaker with #8 wire but no dedicated conduit, connected through 2 junction boxes near each end. Also, they connected the charger to the 40A circuit but did not set the charger to a maximum 32A charge as it clearly says in the charger's manual. So within a couple of months charging at 48A max charge, the wires burned up, which seems like a major fire hazard that could have burned down our house. A different electrician saw that they had not set the maximum charge on the charger correctly and said they should have at least warned me to do so. His crew came back to have it fixed but they only replaced the wires going from the charger to the nearby junction box and didn't say anything (again) about max charge but I looked it up and set the max to 32A myself and had a different electrician check it was done correctly. Even still, a few months later, the problem repeated, with the wires burning up in the junction box (see photos) and now he is saying he is only willing to repair the connection inside the junction boxes again but will not redo it more safely as a single run. I can't trust that it won't burn up again with the current setup using the junction boxes (which seems like a fire hazard!), so I now feel I need to pay someone else to redo/correct his crew's work. He was barely responsive when I first contacted him in 2024 to ask where the line was that he promised, but when he did finally come through... he did it on the cheap. He was barely responsive when I pointed out the problems and fire hazard a few months later but did finally come through. And again more recently he did not respond for a while but was finally responsive. But he only offered to repair something in the same way... that has already broken 2 times. I will give him credit for not totally ghosting me and he did make some effort to make good on the contracted work. But ultimately Roy did not come through with solidly-performed job but rather has decided to cut his losses and just do the bare minimum. Disappointing. read more

Although RG Electric was highly recommended, my project experience was only fair. Following the work completion, the City Inspector did not approve the permit until the aluminum wiring was treated (which the RG Electric technician was unaware of), however, the Inspector did wait and finally approved the permit. RG Electric was not familiar with what documentation or how to provide me with written documentation of the permit (I paid additional cost for the permit). Now that the project is completed, I'm not able to get a PIF receipt, but during the entire process, they will demand money. read more

This is a local company run by Roger and his crew is all from here. They do great work and are excellent communicators. They came out fast for what may have been an old outlet poorly wired that made a burning smell when I used it and then did the entire house after that by squeezing me into their schedule and working late. These guys are professionals. They show up to work and I never once saw them taking breaks, chit chatting, or wasting time. They got the job done and they did darn fine work. Also, as much as I judge a company by the success they have, it's almost more important to me how they handle a mistake or failure. Very painless process that makes me wish I had done it sooner! I cross checked yelp with Angie's list and decided to call RG Electric to get a quote for recessed lighting in my living room. I left a message and Roy called me back within 5 minutes and said he could come out the next morning to do the quote. I said that I had to be somewhere at 9 am, so he said he could come at 7:30 am (on a Saturday!). He took a look around and recommended recessed lighting for both the living and dining areas, suggesting six 3 inch LED lights with dimmers in each room. I had initially wanted a light fixture for the dining area, but he talked me out of it due to low ceilings in my townhouse. He quoted me $1,250 for all 12 lights plus dimmers, but was clear that the price did not include drywall repair / patching / painting of the holes left behind from removing the old track lighting and installing recessed the lights. The price seemed fair so I did not negotiate, and I'm not sure if it would have worked (he said he did not believe in coupons). Roy put me on the calendar for 7:30 am today (4 days later) and I put down a $500 deposit (he accepts checks, but credit cards are 3% extra). His team of 3 showed up at 7:30 am on the dot this morning. They did seem a bit confused as to what they were supposed to do and only one of them spoke English, which was a bit concerning. I showed them the paper with the estimate and called Roy to confirm what we had agreed on Saturday and he put me at ease. I let him know that I had to go to work and would be back for lunch at 12:30 pm, and when I came back the job was done and Roy was waiting for me to make sure I was happy with the job and to collect final payment. He also helped me dispose of the old track lighting. Roy also had his drywall guy call me, and he will be here at 8 am tomorrow to finish the job (an extra $300). All in all it was a very quick, seamless process. My only complaint is that the drywall is a separate job - it would be nice if it could all be done at once, but maybe that's the way that it always works with these things. My space looks larger, more open, and beautiful! read more

We had RG come to our place to install a new ceiling fan and a microwave, both of which needed new wiring as well. Roy's team was punctual, efficient, and of course totally competent. I've done a lot of wiring myself, so I know whereof I speak when I say they did a great job for a great price (and in just a few hours). Highly recommended. Roy's follow up call soon after they left to ensure that I was happy was much appreciated as well. I don't know when we will need any more electric work, but if we do they'll get the call. Only small caveats, like everything here in LA it helps if you speak some Spanish to effectively communicate with the crew, and making sure everything is as expected before they pack up never hurts. Finally, know that these are electricians, not general handymen, which means that patch and paint are left to someone else. I had posted that I needed an electrician on Thursday evening because a few outlets were going off and on. I few weeks prior to that, my panel was making a lot of noise (crackling). My messages Thursday turned up a few electricians sending me messages. I choose to go with RG, based on how quickly they responded to my messages. We had so many people come in and quote outrageous amounts and recommend that we rent special equipment to have the chandelier changed out. I had called RG electric and sent them pictures and they gave me a rough estimate based on those pictures. Once we scheduled the job, we were given a two hour time window. I had requested earlier in the time window because we had something to do and they said they would make a note. I was very happy when they showed up early as I requested. They honored the estimate and had the job done with no complaints or comments about the difficulty of the job and were out in less than one hour. I had a couple of small electrical repairs so I called around for estimates. I sent RG Electric photos of the work I needed done. They were prompt with my quote but it was TRIPLE what the other two contractors I contacted quoted me! Buyer beware. Update: This morning I was called 6 times in a row by a no caller ID number before 9am. I screen my calls so I let them go to voicemail but no messages were left. After the 5th call in rapid succession I became worried there might be an emergency from a family member. It turns out all the calls were from RG Electric. He wanted to talk to me about this review. He said that the estimate was so high because he wanted to account for possible unknowns in the job. I shared with him that the other contractors I called for estimates gave me a base rate for the repairs (approx $300 as opposed to RG's $900+). The other contractors acknowledged if there were complications to the repairs they would alert me before doing work outside of the scope of their original quote. RG Electric then said he was "new to this" and apologized for giving me such a high quote. I shared with him that I had read other reviews of their company here on yelp that also cited excessively high estimates so it seems like this was not a one time issue. Calling me because of a negative Yelp review 6 times in less than an hour was unprofessional & unacceptable. I advise folks to stay away. read more
