If you're on the mountain, this is a good choice. As soon as we came into the front door we could smell the BBQ. It was very pleasing! Our waitress was kind and very knowledgeable about the menu and seemed comfortable making recommendations. She also answered my "tourist-like" questions. From that we learned that this is one of the few (3?) restaurants on the mountain and is likely the oldest/ longest-lasting. One of the reasons for that I believe may just be the home-cooked meal feel you get when you arrive and also for the big selections of beer on tap. It has a very local feel and we definitely did not feel out of place. There are a few TVs for the crowd in the main dining area so we don't need to miss the game. The area also seats about 120 people so you can watch with friends. The wrap-around porch outside also seats another 40-50 people I would guess. That'd be great for those summer evenings out. When the food arrived it smelled amazing!!! (Pictures loaded ) We ordered a pulled pork and a beef brisket sandwich. Both arrived very quickly and had saucy toppings that were less than what I think was needed. They were tasty but , with the lack of sauce, perhaps a little dry for our tastes. Great food and excellent service!! Highly recommend! We came in and ordered a combo plate to go. The staff here was very attentive and friendly. We were exploring the area and the staff kindly answered our questions about the neighborhood and gave us the run down of this establishment. The food was great!! The ribs were AMAZING. The right amount of softness to the meat and the perfect amount of chargrill on the top. I could eat these ribs for days!! The sausage and the green beans we go were also very tasty. The smoked pork was a little dry and I definitely would not get that again, but I appreciated being able to get a sample of all their main meats! The establishment is really cool. Open and airy with indoor and outdoor seating. They even have a volleyball net out back! Very cool place. Thankful we stumbled across it. read more

Our food was tasty (chips and salsa, brisket, fries, and ribs), but they had a photo of Michelle Lujan Grisham as Uncle Sam, but with a Hitler mustache, posted at the entrance, with a sign that said "we want YOU to give your information"--seems like a holdover from the contact tracing for COVID. Ribs Hickory pit barbecue in the East Mountains , Cedar Crest is one of the best rib places I've ever been to the ribs are tender juicy and Consistently delicious. The salads are large with lots of goodies and are a meal on their own. The staff is friendly and attentive to all every need if you need something you tell them and it's there if you even look like you need something I'll come over and ask If you need anything so I gave them a five out of five for service and a five out of five for consistently tasty food if you haven't been to East Mountain ribs you're missing out and I suggest you head up there because I'm gonna eat them all if you don't get here soon read more

You're in this little mountain town, Cedar Crest, and let's be honest, there's not a lot happening around here, am I right? I mean, the basics are here, I guess: groceries, a couple of cafes, a smattering of restaurants and shops. But for years and at the moment Cedar Crest remains something of a crest; elevation-wise it's relatively the highest of townships in central New Mexico, but it doesn't have the walkability or character of a ski town, or established mountain town, so it's cusp-y, it's getting there. Most of us locals are still waiting for it to be a destination. My experience at Ribs Hickory Pit was insanely limited, just lunch, but that sole hour warrants this plea to get out there, pronto. A word of caution to BBQ fans: you best love yo'self some smoke to love this food. The place is stanky smokey. You smell it before you walk in the door and seconds following, you're going to be drenched in it. Your clothes, hair follicles, hell, your very exterior will be soaked in the ambient smoke in the air, and you'll follow this up by ingesting that essence into your veins, your heart will pump that stuff through your blood. Thus, many hours or even days later, you'll still taste it in your very being. Smack all that up with some serious BBQ sauce, and you won't forget it. I never, ever expected good BBQ in this hobbled township. I was shocked and thrilled. And I absolutely loved the service. Straight up country hospitality, so, so solid. read more

Discovered on yelp, using the yelp app, while driving on the scenic Tamarindo trail, enter places for lunch, filter by best match. Dis place came up... We knew we were having mexican for din-din so didn't want to overdue it and figured BBQ would be a nice option. The problem is coming from Louisiana and eating BBQ there (and also Mississippi) my standards are pretty doggone high. The BBQ was pretty good / fine... I had the pulled pork. It was okay. The cole slaw was actually a little better IMO. It's A-OK. Just didn't have enough to ratchet it up a notch from that. read more

Really disappointed in the updates Ribs has made to their website/message. When I go out to eat, a restaurants political affiliation is the last thing I want to think about. Politics is infecting every aspect of our lives, from the left to the right. I'd feel the same if Ribs changed their website to say "Ridin' With Biden" but now Ribs proudly serves only "deplorables" so I guess if you aren't a "deplorable" then you aren't welcome at their establishment. I love good food, served by good staff in a good place and that's what Ribs has been until recently. Unfortunately, politicizing themselves is apparently more important than serving their community. It's exhausting to be accosted by politics everywhere you go (and that's both sides of the aisle - it's not a Republican issue or a Democrat issue, it's everyone). After looking at their website, I see in big bold words "By Deplorables for Deplorables." To politicize food is ridiculous and to alienate a portion of the people in the East Mountains who eat here is very short sighted. Ribs BBQ is delicious! Their ribeye sandwich is always tender, moist and amazing. Ribs are always great and we love the rib ends appetizer. I wish they had a good bread instead of toast is my only gripe. Great, friendly service. The bread pudding is to die for. Great drive! Pretty location in woods Margarita expensive and sucked! I think there is more tequila in an over the counter Gatorade. Deep fried sampler appetizer sucked! Over cooked Pulled pork sandwich ok but expensive! I spent $50 for two lame margaritas, one appetizer, and a pulled pork sandwich with a loaded potato that looked like it came from a jail or prison. It's a great place for ribs! You won't be disappointed. We had the dinner rib plate for lunch and it was exactly what we needed. They make the ribs day in and day out in their "roaster" right inside the dinning area. I love the old style of this place with wood beams and wooden bar. I can't comment for all the "carnivores" that go here (that's who their marketing is targeting- shocking for a place called Ribs, I know lol), but as one of the few vegetarians that has been there, I've been satisfied. They have a pretty good veggie burger- nothing too exciting or homemade- I think it's a Gardenburger brand one. Yet it's prepared well and the sides are good. The fried okra today was worth the calories. I know my meat-eating coworkers like it. One said it's the best burger in the East Mountains. The wait staff was also nice and did a good job. read more

Delicious! I decided to try Ribs after a long hike along Sandia Crest. I got a combo of ribs and pulled pork with mac and cheese and fried okra with white gravy. Totally delicious. Exceeded my expectations for ABQ. They have St. Louis style ribs which are my favorite but can't get them everywhere. I was so happy that these were so good. It will be great when the viral shutdown is over bc they have a nice outdoor seating area. The ribs are dry, the beans are bland, and the sausage is barely edible. Everything else needs seasoning, even a little salt would help. If they would just use some salt on all their food, it wouldn't be half bad. With that said, the atmosphere is very cool. The outdoor seating allows dogs, the volleyball sand court is really nice, the staff is very friendly. I haven't been since the pandemic, but I've heard they campaigned hard for Trump and held anti-mask petitions inside the restaurant in plain sight where customers couldn't avoid seeing.
