If you're reading this as the owner, I hope this is a motivator for you to restructure and re-brand so that you become a "line out the door" business, because in today's climate, it only takes one influencer to enter your doors and call your food "certified" or "trash" for YouTube, IG, Twitch etc.. I was going to order water, but since it was a special occassion, i ordered a Dr. Pepper and I was surprised that it came in a large mason glass jar. The Dr. Pepper wasn't peppering.....if you know you know, it just didnt taste strong, but I did enjoy that the drink was ice cold. They dont have coke, but serve pepsi products. The cornbread was perfection, warm and buttery. Disclaimer, the Mac and Cheese had corn in it, just stating if you care about that sort of thing. It was more on the saucy cheesy side. I never had Mac and Cheese like that, but since I love Mac and Cheese and I love corn so it was hit in my world. Portions are huge and I had to take some food home. Prices seem comparable to other places that serve BBQ. Lots of seating areas and I can see on special occasions or on the weekends, this place could get packed. Plenty of parking. This restaurant is off Winton, in the area where Panera is at. If you go all the way to the mall you have gone too far. I know that I will be coming back, I am curious to try their burnt tips. This is a good combination between the outdoors grill it yourself and the indoors seating of both the SoCal Dollar Hits, so I thought that was nice. They have all the classics here, isaw (sometimes Dollar Hits doesn't have this unless you request -it's chicken intestines), large intestines, chicken skin, kwek kwek (battered quail eggs), and Tender Juicy bright red filipino hot dogs (a must). Not overdone with the ingredients yet what a powerful hit of flavor, the Cajun seasoning usually comes out a bit salty on fries but these guys figured out how to balance it with the fresh shredded crab on top, garnished off with some green onion and more special sauce, this thing made me look around the room to see if anyone else was reacting like this over the food. People were sitting there talking about "last time I tried ___ and ___ and it was fire") In the end I saw a guy that looked very proud to be there and was helping around the place while running back to his computer, that was Brett, the owner. I had to go and shake the man's hand and pick his mind a bit. He's a born and raised in New Orleans guy and you could tell by his kindness and southern hospitality. (Dude gave me a delicious carrot cake to go) Unfortunately in the end I had to walk back out into the reminder that I was in Castro valley and not New Orleans but for minute I was able to remember everything that had previously experienced from my trips there and that's what a great meal should do for you. Surprisingly disappointing seeing how busy and popular this place is. The wontons were okay, decent flavor with a strong sesame oil presence. But they weren't that plump and luxurious, just seemed like homemade/amateur versions. Which is fine, except given the nicer restaurant feel, I just expected something more elevated. The noodles were fine, super thin egg noodles that had a nice QQ. BUT their broth was so bland and unremarkable that it kinda ruined the whole experience. I couldn't even taste/detect the protein that made up the stock, just tasted like murky liquid to me. And zero condiments on the table, so I just ate the wontons and the plain tasting noodles cuz the broth couldn't offer anything to the noodles. Womp womp. And their bowl of choice is very weird to eat from. Super tall bowl that if you leave a spoon in there it will sink and be submerged for you to fish out...in piping hot liquid. If I would have reviewed this place just on this one visit, then it surely would have been a sub 3* rating. But I knew I couldn't leave my impression with that one lone visit. They cut it with good skill and even for a take-out box they present it nicely, with the shape of duck still somewhat intact. The skin is not crisp at all but it is very well rendered. Some pieces were not that salty at all but some other pieces are well seasoned, which I thought was strange. But overall a very solid roast duck is to be found here. There's also a big scoop of these tiny beans that are slightly sweet almost like baked beans just not as gloopy. But the bean texture is very al dente, almost crunchy, which I found very strange. Macao Roast Pork w/ Rice ($19/4.5*) This is crazy good...I'll even say special. Super seasoned pork belly is roasted til the skin gets crisp...like chicharon status, except it is just a very thin layer of crispness. So the balance between the sturdy crunch and juicy flavorful meat was practically perfect. It is definitely on the salty side, almost the same intenseness as eating Spam with white rice, but white rice offsets those salty components beautifully. And they garnish this massive plate with perfectly blanched gai lan (Chinese Broccoli) and some other pickled greens that add a nice sweet and tangy component. So between the decadent pork, white rice and diverse greens offerings just made this a complete one stop shop that could make a regular out of me. There's also a Share Tea next door so I've got a harmonious tandem going on here. Lucky Ducky Me yassss!

There are two dipping sauces, a plum based katsu sauce, and a soy sauce hybrid. The katsu sauce has a little bit of heat, but mild enough that my SO whom normally does not eat any spicy, can handle it. Which ever combo or item you pick, it's outstanding. Because the items have a lot of food, I usually skip the appetizers. So for either lunch or dinner, you have two meals out of any items. Service is great, I usually order on the phone and pick it up, but ordering in person or online is fast, staff is great and friendly. the decor is simple and the place is very clean. I went with the full slab (12 ribs), beans, and fries (I'd ask for a little more crisp), and added a French dip on the side (sauce is great). Honestly... everything hit. The ribs were super tender and the BBQ sauce is just different, in a good way. Hard to explain but it's one of those you don't forget. Staff was friendly and quick, no issues at all. This is my plate after eating about 3 pieces. The meat was cooked just right...very tender and grilled, not boiled like some restaurants. My wife got tri-tip and baby-backs. Just as good. And you get 2 sides plus baked beans. Our waitress was the most friendliest waitress I have had in a long time. Just canceled all the BBQ places I've been to in the Bay.
