Soy sauce chicken & BBQ pork platter

We're back for more delectables. Had our usual chili pig ears, actually two orders. Ordered our salt & pepper chicken wings along with a two item BBQ platter; soy sauce chicken and BBQ pork. The chicken was so succulent and cooked to perfection, the meat was very tender and tasty. Had some purr ehh tea, the server nabbed some formus as a special facor, rather than jasmine tea. All in all, it's one of favorite Chinese restaurants, clean, orderly as the food arrived quickly. Yep, we'll be returning soon to see what else we can try.

If they can balance the roasting level between the BBQ duck sashimi and BBQ charcoal Pork.

Very bad quality, medium rare BBQ duck and burned BBQ pork. Nothing can be satisfied if you pay $45 for such food like this.

I had another great meal at Jin Gege last month. The food tasted great, I was thrilled to find someplace open late, and my Cantonese craving was definitely satisfied. It was 8:15 at night when we arrived. If you come late, you'll actually sign in on the kiosk at the adjacent Yao Yao restaurant. We were 7th in the queue and were seated in 5 minutes, woo hoo! After scrolling through the available items on the tablet, I finalized the order and sent it to the kitchen in three minutes. The food started coming out really fast. The vegetables took the longest, and they were served in 15 minutes. Super fast service! That night's late dinner included salt & pepper wings--I was dripping in sweat--like hand me a towel so I could dry off sweaty. We also got sauteed pea leaves, and since I didn't see beef stew won ton mein on the menu, we got an order of beef stew and a separate order of won ton. I MacGyvered myself the soup I wanted. ha ha! Thank you to Jin Gege for coming through again while I was in town.

Picking up roast duck rice plate for mom

Review is for Jin Gege rice plates and Chinese BBQ: roast chicken, soy sauce chicken, BBQ pork and roast pork, duck along with various congee and noodle dishes. This is Hong Kong-style food and not Americanized Chinese Food ala the Panda. I usually visit to get my mom the roast duck rice plate or combo meat which she enjoys. Usually, she thinks places make their roast duck too salty but Jin Gege does a good one in her opinion! Place your order via their website to minimize any wait time. Usually ready as promised. Rice plates average $18. Located in the Greenhouse Marketplace with plenty of shared parking.

Came here with the family for a Sunday night dinner. The takeout line was extremely long, so I assumed the food must be popular. Surprisingly, the dine-in area was pretty empty. We ordered through a tablet, which was convenient, but the food itself was a mixed experience. Most of the dishes were extremely oily, which made it hard to enjoy them. The cha siu was especially disappointing. It was mostly just chunks of fat rather than lean, flavorful BBQ pork. I was also really looking forward to the clay pot rice, but it was a letdown since it didn't have that signature burnt, crispy layer at the bottom. Overall, it was just okay. Not terrible, but not somewhere I'd rush back to unless the quality of the dishes improves.

Gai lan is decent (4 stars)

5 stars for the bbq but other dishes were just a bit too oily especially the egg plant. Here my quick take for you foodies: Pro tip: - You can order non bbq foods such as pickled soups from next door for a more diverse Chinese meal straight from the tablet by clicking on the sorta hidden button (last item on the right menu) Food (4.5 stars) + Excellent bbq meats especially the roast pork with its balanced of fat and meat ratio, perfectly crispy skin and generous portion for a full order + 3 item bbq combo is good because you get a taste of everything. The soy sauce chicken is really good as advertised and I'm not a chicken person when it comes to Chinese bbq. Duck is very lean but juicy so it's also very good. We also got the cha su bbq pork. Its reddish colored and bbq char taste is unique compared to others because it's more fatty than others. I actually like it but I can see traditionalists maybe not so. + Gai lan also has a soy based sauce that can be too much after eating all of the savory bbq ~ Eggplant clay pot is very good but just way too oily. Service (3-4 stars) + Seated quickly with hot tear at the ready and food came out fast. Even our clay pot was out within minutes upon ordering on their intuitive tablet. - My ice water was not refilled as usual with many Chinese places Ambiance (5 stars) + Graded on a scale here because there are lots of good Chinese hole in the walls. This place is nice for a Chinese bbq. + Efficient ordering system and I like the ability to order from its sister restaurant next door

Chicken was velvety and moist. Didn't give any extra sauce tho which is standard to come with. Service for take out was about 15 min wait. Pretty inside booths for dining in. Not bad if you're in the area

We got seated properly upon entering. After placing order on tablet, the food service was slow. First, I noticed they MICROWAVE their bbq dishes before serving, which is out of my expectation. The bbq 3-item assortment we got portion are 50% bone. It costs $31 and half is inedible. Shrimp fried rice was a disappointment. The big chunks of overcooked scrambled egg and rice were not cooking incorporated. Heavily poured cooking oil on the Chinese broccoli that made the whole thing unpleasantly oily. The hot milk was probably the only good out of all the dishes.

Comfort food at its finest when it comes to Chinese food. Congee is home cooking style and our favorites! All the roast offerings are excellent. Roast pork crunchy skin with thin fatty goodness and ask for the sauce and you will get hooked. They have combo plates and huge soup bowls and you really have to drop by and pick the favorites. Roast pork, roast chicken, baked chicken, duck and bbq pork and many many more. Everybody will be happy on both sides of this place, yaoyao side or jon gege side all delicious traditional recipes. :)

Delicious food, great service, friendly employee. Very clean. The waiter was very nice and friendly. Came constantly to check on us if we needed anything else.

Came here with my mom on her suggestion - it replaced the old Fusion Pot that used to be here, but it seems to be similar owners from what I can tell? (the same restaurant empire that does T4, Fusion delight, etc). We got the har gow ($8), the roast duck plate with rice ($17), and my mom got an extra pork dish ($17). Pros: - Easy parking lot, and easy ordering system with an tablet - Pretty cute aesthetic interior, with booths, nice tea mugs, and a vibe that doesn't quite match the casual Chinese food, but I don't mind. - Efficient service, most of the servers can speak English, Canto, or Mandarin. - pretty diverse menu that includes dim sum (kinda random but I like it), rice dishes that you can eat on your own, and jook. - my favorite was the roast duck - it was super tender and well priced in my opinion, for $17. I feel like this is a hard dish to make at home and it isn't readily available unless you're eating at a Chinese banquet, so this was a nice surprise to see on the menu. - Nice hot tea included. - They let us stay for a long time to chat Cons: - Surprisingly I can't really think of any, which is surprising because this isn't really my favorite food. Wouldn't mind coming back

One of the most underrated restaurants in San Leandro. The restaurant is very beautiful and spacious inside and you have view of the bbq/drying ducks on entry too. Food is fresh, plentiful, and delicious. I'm in love with their crispy tofu and their coconut pudding is soft and so creamy. This is my new place for meals to go and with family.

A solid four star. Second visit (different location). I love their BBQ roast pork (charsiew) and their Peking duck set. Roast pork belly was crispy and crunchy but a little soggy after 2-3 hours but totally acceptable as it's so far the best BBQ plates I have had in the Bay!

I was there at 7pm on a Saturday. I've seen this place cross my Yelp feed a few times, so I wanted to come try it. I also got a tip from a Yelp Elite that the roast pig was very good here. So I ordered the $8.99 Combo meal- Chow Mein and/or Fried Rice + 2 Items from the steam table. -at extra cost, you can sub meats from the BBQ/Cooked Meat section. So I got fried rice, and string beans w/ Chicken/Mushrooms. 2nd item was Chicken in gravy w/ mixed veggies. I asked them to put some gravy over the rice to make it soft and moist. Good portions! You get alot of food for $8.99. Chicken was very tender and easy to eat. All the foods were good. I also got 1/2 a roast duck and a small box of roast pig to try. They said they cook the roast ducks there. The duck had a mild flavor, but it was tender and moist. The roast pig was good. Moist juicy meat. Crispy crunchy pork skin. There's tables and booths in the dining room. The decor doesn't match an asian restaurant. Honestly, I can't remember what used to be here. The layout and outside design looks like an old style Taco Bell. They have a large parking lot. There's a 7-11 sign, but no 7-11 store. The staff was very nice. You just tell them what you want, and point at which tray of food. BTW...."BBQ" means Chinese BBQ.... - Roast Pork Belly - Roast Duck - Imperial Chicken - Soy Sauce Chicken - Honey BBQ Pork Overall a very good experience, and I would return. ------------------------------------- Located at East 14th St & 136th Ave, Near San Leandro Blvd. Across the street from Palma Plaza and San Leandro Hospital. Super awesome. The kitchen is wide open. Everything was super clean and well put together. Service - 5/5 Great recommendations from the staff. The house slaw and banana pudding were clearly popular choices, and they definitely knew what they were doing when guiding the order. I told them it's my first time. These were what they recommended me. One of the staff actually gave a piece of brisket to try. Very nice of them to give a free sample before I order so I know what I'm expecting. Food - 4.5/5 Dish Ordered: Dino Rib, Brisket ( 1/2 lb), House Slaw, Banana Pudding 5/5 Dino Rib Wow. This was the highlight. The meat was unbelievably tender--every single part of it. Usually with ribs, especially the upper portions, you get some toughness or dryness depending on how it's smoked. Not here. This one was melt-in-your-mouth soft, juicy throughout, and you could practically pull it apart effortlessly. The seasoning was perfect--balanced, not too salty, not bland, just right. Every bite hit. 4/5 Brisket ( 1/2 lb) About two slices. Visually, it looked great--nice color, juicy, with a solid fatty portion. But after eating the Dino rib, it felt a bit underwhelming. Still good, just didn't hit as hard flavor-wise. Might be better appreciated on its own next time. 5/5 House Slaw This paired extremely well with the meat. Sweet, tangy, and refreshing. The hint of peanuts adds a nice nutty layer that makes it stand out. It cuts through the richness of the meat perfectly. 5/5 Banana Pudding Not your typical pudding--it's more like a banana cake. The sweetness not too overwhelming, smells amazing, and just hits the spot. A great way to finish the meal. Additional Comments The Dino rib alone makes this place worth it. It sets a very high bar, which honestly makes everything else feel secondary. The best Rib I have ever had in my life so far. Important thing to note is that the rib will be weighed. I don't think you can ask to get the portion you want like you can with the brisket. My Dino rib came out to be 1.6lb. The sides and dessert complement the meal really well and round out the experience. Price is bit is definitely in the higher end but the experience is definitely worth it.

Now I saw this place on social media as one of the best barbecue in the Bay Area. Well in my visit, let me just say I was disappointed. The food was OK and overpriced. The brisket was a bit dry so was the ribs. The sausage tasted like sawdust and potato salad was flavorless. Service was good lady that helped me was nice and suggested what to get. The place inside is pretty small, but there's plenty of sitting outside and you could sit inside the brewery next-door, which is what we choose. Now if I was in the area again, I would not come back.

I got the Tom Yum broth, and asked for a side of white rice which is free. The broth was super tart and flavorful, like mama noodles which I love. There were ingredients that you'd typically see at hot pot spots like beef, lamb, spam, tofu for proteins, and spinach, cabbage, corn, etc. for veggies. Lots of noodle options, and the sauce bar, although small, I really enjoyed the sesame sauce, house chili, and the spicy garlic sauce. They even have perfectly medium-cooked fried eggs that I felt went well with the tom yum broth. We were conservative with our ingredients because we didn't want to accidentally have a $40 bowl of soup, but we were under the minimum so we had to add a few more to get it to 0.80 ounces. At that minimum, our bowls were a very reasonable $13. The only con is that it's a bit small inside so I can see it getting annoying on busy weekends especially as people crowd around to choose ingredients. Luckily on a weekday late lunch it was pretty dead. Other small con is water is served in small paper cups so we had to ask for refills often. Small gripe but with spicy soup, water is needed and in large quantities to offset some of the spiciness. Service was amazing, prompt and friendly. Overall, solid spot and glad we got to try it!

Basically, you walk in, grab a bowl, and pick out whatever meats, veggies, noodles, etc. you want. Then you bring it to the counter, they weigh it, and that's how they charge you. I've always been kind of hesitant to try one because I was scared I'd end up with a $20+ bowl by accident. I was excited to see that Master Gua Malatang & BBQ opened up near me, so I finally gave it a shot. They charge $14.99 per pound with a minimum of 0.80 lbs, which honestly isn't bad. I tried to be smart and picked mostly light stuff like spinach, sprouts, and tofu. I avoided heavier stuff like corn on the cob or beef balls. When I went to weigh it, my bowl came out to 0.65 lbs, so I went back and added a little more meat and veggies to hit 0.85. My total came out under $13, which is a great deal for how filling it was. I got the satay broth, which is beef, shrimp, and fish-based with a peanutty flavor. It wasn't fishy at all, which I appreciated. My partner got the tom yum broth and I thought it tasted just like Mama brand instant noodles, in a good way. You also get a side of white rice with your soup, but you have to ask for it. Meat options were beef, lamb, and pork belly. Only downside is that all the meats are kind of fatty. Also, they give you tiny paper water cups. If they're gonna do that, they really need to have a self-serve water station or just give people bigger cups so you don't have to keep asking for refills. The service was great though. The lady working was super friendly and helpful. If you're worried about the price, I recommend just filling your bowl with what you think you'll eat, weighing it, and then adding more if you need to meet the minimum. They also have a sauce bar so you can make your own dipping sauce, but it would be cool if they put out some suggested combos for people who don't know what to mix. Overall, I'll definitely be back. This place is perfect for a quick, comforting meal especially if you're nursing a hangover.
