There are two dipping sauces, a plum based katsu sauce, and a soy sauce hybrid. The katsu sauce has a little bit of heat, but mild enough that my SO whom normally does not eat any spicy, can handle it. Which ever combo or item you pick, it's outstanding. Because the items have a lot of food, I usually skip the appetizers. So for either lunch or dinner, you have two meals out of any items. I was here on recent Saturday around 6pm and placed an order to go. They had three tables for those that want to eat in. First, the portions in both combos were huge. The bbq chicken, beef and kalbi short rib were marinated well and cooked perfectly and not dry. The panko breaded chicken katsu was fried crispy golden brown and the chicken was moist. They orders came with containers of dipping sauces, which I think were katsu and soy marinade. The vegetables were steamed without seasoning so I put some of the sauces on it. So we loved the food as it was delicious and for the amount of food you get at the prices, it was a great value and the clerk was friendly. There was enough left for another meal. So excited that San Leandro has a solid Hawaiian plate lunch spot. First time we came for 2 of the 3 item family meal so we can try the different proteins they offer. The teriyaki chicken and chicken katsu were the clear winners, the kalbi short ribs and teriyaki beef solid choices, nothing special about the island white fish, while the kalua pork drier than what we were used to. Good portions of rice and mac salad but do wish the broccoli is more than just than 2-3 pieces. The first time I got the malasadas, they are not the traditional malasadas that you would get from Hawaii but more of like a donut hole. Tasty and satisfying and great for the price to satisfy your sweet tooth as long as you're not expecting the traditional ones. Second time were more like what you expect from a malasada so not sure if they figured out the formula.
