Not my favorite place to sit and eat but the food is my favorite..you really can't go wrong ,everything is delicious!

Hurricane Katrina was bad. Very bad. But it brought the owners of 'Rice and Noodles' to Lancaster, PA.. And that is good. Very good! It's Saturday afternoon. My wife is out of town. Her food tastes are more traditional (traditional as in, her father was a Pennsylvania Dutch butcher - you get the idea). Me, I grew up in San Francisco and have wildly varied tastes. So I look for someplace I haven't tried. The menu for Rice and Noodles has always intrigued me and I hop in my car and head to their location on Lititz Pike. Tiny place. Cute, fresh decor. Smiles greet me upon entering. I'm seated at a table in the middle of the room. I have a clear view of the small flat-panel TV showing a cupcake challenge on the Food Network. But the menu is what really catches my eye. Many Vietnamese dishes - Banh Mi sandwiches, salads, many spring roll choices, and the Pho. I start with the Goi Cuon - "Fresh shrimp and pork spring rolls wrapped in rice paper, stuffed with fresh herbs,vermicelli, and served with our special hoisin peanut sauce". Yummy. Fresh tasting. Hoisin sauce was great. And then on to the Pho. I choose the Pho Tai - rare beef Vietnamese noodle soup accompanied with baskets of fresh basil, bean sprouts, lime, and sliced jalapeno peppers. My only criticism is about the beef. Not really medium rare. More like fully cooked - but was thin and very tender. Decent amount of meat in the bowl. The broth was rich and good. The noodles were as good as any I've had. I loaded the bowl up with most of the available basil, sprouts, peppers, but held off adding much lime. I didn't want to "color" the existing good flavor. Affordable good food - my bill was under $11. The place was getting busy as I left after 5PM. A few of newer guests were having challenges communicating with the servers about the menu. I'm guessing they were confused not finding their fave General Tso's chicken on this decidedly Vietnamese specific menu. C'mon folks . . .try something new! read more

In my 41 years, I've never had Vietnamese food- to my knowledge. Yet, after checking their menu on yelp, tastebuds were placed on high alert; Vietnamese food is on the way. Rice and Noodles was just plain awesome. Sure, on a Friday night we had to wait for a table of 5, but well worth the wait. We started with an order of spring rolls- amazing- and proceded to order a pork and rice bowl, shrimp and ride, and spicy vietmanese stew. All were outstanding...very flavorful, not "heavy",and presented well. Kids liked their selections off the kids menu, as well. Seating area is small, parking is cramped, but the food is well worth these shortcomings. Service staff was wonderful. I have to admit I feel like a tourist who has an agonizingly short visit to an amazing country. There is so much exploration to be done here- ableit, culinary exporation- and I can't wait to return to see what else I can experience here. As we waited for a table, a framed article from the newspaper touted that the owners had several resturaunts in Saigon prior to fleeing to New Orleans, where they would own three- and wonderful food magazine reviews on the wall from New Orleans illustrated the success the owners experienced there. However, Katrina shut down all three locations- permanently- and the family moved north to Lancaster to relocate. All I can say is I'm glad they did. Food is always great; try the pho and the spring rolls; promise you will not be disappointed!

I love this place. I wish it were closer than 45 minutes away but it's totally worth it to stop in for their food. Currently my favorite is the pork bahn me and any kind of roll they're serving-- fried, rice paper, pork, shrimp, whatever. The only downside to this place is the size. Tiny, tiny tiny... I like to go at off times so I don't have to wait for a table. The staff is great. Hmm... think I might drive over for lunch. read more

Great pho for the price! My fiancé and I visited this past week and we were really pleased. We both ordered pho - mine a medium rare beef and veggie for her. Tons of extras (jalapeños, basil, bean sprouts and lime), and plenty of food to fill us both up for under $9 per person. FOR DINNER. Looking forward to coming back! read more

I'm a bit picky when it comes to vietnamese food having lived in little Saigon. I had the bun cha thit nuong. And it was okay. This place felt over priced for the quantity of food and portions given. My sister got the pate sandwich which was more bread than anything else...it was so sad that even she was confused. I feel bad because a friend of mine from Hanoi loves this place. I'm guessing because of how small it is and the way they market things feels like vietnam but no thanks. The service was mediocre and we were not tended to - was wondering if it was because we were Viet because everyone else around us, even those who came after were tended to. At least they have macarons! I haven't tried the other Viet restaurants in Lancaster but have in the Harrisburg area. I wouldn't make this a regular place read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE. the service is fantastic and the food is so delicious. I dont know what else to say other than GO! You won't be disappointed. I have never had a bad experience here. The sweet lime tea is the best. Tofu spring rolls and the tofu sandwich (the rolls are delicious!!) are my go to. The dining area is small, so your sitting super close to the table next to you. And usually theres a wait but nothing extreme. read more

I love Vietnamese food but am picky about how certain dishes are prepared. We really liked this place for the freshness. We usually get the brisket pho and the grilled pork bun (noodles) So yummy but it is tight inside and can get busy. Be careful where you park too! read more

Everything I ordered was AMAZING. And it's so affordable! The Pho was the best I ever had. And the Banh Mi- omg-delicious! We got the message-rare Beef Pho- perfect. The pork Banh Mi and the tofu Banh Mi both so so good!! The rice paper spring rolls with tofu was good but the peanut sauce was better. I'm eating here again and soon!! The boyfriend took me here for dinner, he's a regular here for lunch and recommends it so why not? This place reminds me a lot of Mekong Delta Cafe in Baltimore. The crowd, selection of food and style of cooking. The place is a bit small but can seat up to 20 people. We shared a Goi Cuon Bo Xao and a Bun Rieu Cua. The Goi Cuon Bo Xao are spring rolls filled with stir fried beef, yellow onions, vermicelli, lettuce, basil, radish and carrots. The Bun Rieu Cua was a vermicelli noodle soup served with crab and pork meatballs with deep fried tofu in a tamarind tomato soup. Everything was very unique and different from what I was used to based on the vietnamese restaurants I've dined at in NYC, California, Baltimore, New Jersey, Canada, Chicago and other places in Lancaster. The spring rolls were good, but I prefer pork or shrimp spring rolls. The sauce was quite unique. It complimented the rolls pretty well. The basil and lettuce was a refreshing addition to the spring rolls. The noodle soup is great on a cold rainy day. Very flavorful and rich. The broth was light and was not too salty or greasy. I thought it was strange that they had crab meat balls, I think I prefer meat ones instead of seafood ones. I didn't like the fried tofu too much, I think the dish itself could just have meatballs for the toppings and skip out on the tofu. I really liked the noodles they used. I've never had this type of vermicelli noodles before. The texture was really good. Aside from vietnamese savory dishes, they also offer a wide variety of sweets and coffee drinks. My boyfriend finds them a bit overpriced. They're currently offering pumpkin macaroons, didn't get to try but maybe next time. Definitely worth checking out if you want to sample different vietnamese dishes than the usual pho or nem cuon. My only complain is the service, it took a while to get their attention for the check. read more

Love this place! It's a small family run business but their Pho is the best around. You might have to wait for a table, especially around lunch or dinner rushes but it's well worth the wait. Boyfriend and I always get the Beef Pho and an order of their shrimp and pork spring rolls. The peanut sauce served with the rolls is amazing. The interior is a little cramped but very clean and tidy. Nice aquarium too in the waiting area in the back. Parking lot can also be a bit challenging yo navigate as it is small and there always seems to be construction on the road out front. Staff is always very helpful though and can provide recommendations if you're not familiar with Vietnamese food or want to try something new. They also provide a take out service but we always eat in. They recently started serving French pastries as well such as macaroons, which have quickly become one of my favorites to order and take home. read more

The place by far has the most reviews in the area. I actually ate here before two years ago. This time I came with my wife and the baby. She had a fried rice dish as usual - generic and basic, but thought it was tasty. I had a beef dish with some spices over noodles that were meant to be wrapped in lettuce. Overall it was pretty decent. The waitress Back-and-forth was a little odd to me. She wasn't bad but it was just awkward every interaction. She hooked me up at the end with all the accoutrements for my dish since I was taking half of it to go. I would def come back. It's a great spot and everything was flavorful. read more

My daughter has a soccer tournament in Lancaster- we were surprised that Lancaster had a pho place. The kids were hungry so we decided to try this place out. The food was amazing! The tra da Chanh drink was soo good. The Che Thai was good- very similar to the hallo hallo drink. My husband had the pho which was amazing. The broth was dark and full of favor. I had the bun ga Nuong which was great but I wish I had more sauce. The downside: it's a very small place and we eat there. Would have been better if we had take out or gone at a different time when they weren't as busy. Overall the food was great but the place a little small. read more

Fun experience on a trip - we're from Oakland, California where there are tons of Vietnamese places - drove to Lancaster from Philly and wanted some Asian comfort food. And though I'm Japanese American - Pho and spring rolls are homey to me. Rice & Noodles hit the spot and it was exciting to be in this tightly packed urban-esque environment in the middle of Amish country. Found the parking lot in front full but drove around to the pretty good sized parking lot in the rear, so don't be fooled. read more

Nice vietnamese restaurant, though nothing that would set it apart from other Vietnamese restaurants other than it may be the only one in Lancaster. The seafood pho was fulfilling, and the fried garlic sprinkled on top of the soup was unique, but the waitress with the glasses was kinda weird and socially awkward. She couldn't explain the difference between the size of a regular bowl of pho and large pho, besides it being small and large, respectively. read more

Having gone to many a pho places, Rice & Noodles is probably a 3 star, but compared to other options in town, it is probably much higher. It is a solid Vietnamese restaurant to eat at but it was quite busy the night that I went. The pho seemed to be missing something in terms of flavor, but it was a good size for the price. Parking and seats in the restaurant are limited so if the parking lot is filled there will probably be a good wait to get in. read more

Came here with the family for a casual lunch. We started with the egg rolls, which were good. They were typical egg rolls without any special dipping sauce. I had the beef stew with rice noodles. The stew was excellent. The noodles were perfectly cooked and the beef was fall-apart tender. Unfortunately it did have a couple pieces of gristle, but this is not a huge deal. This stew has a lot of flavor and a nice consistency. I highly recommend. My family got the grilled chicken salad and the pork sausage wraps. Both of these were well-received. The honey Dijon dressing for the salad was simply amazing. Rice & Noodles is a good Vietnamese noodle house. It had quality food across the board that pleased, but did not blow us away. Overview: Absolutely fantastic Vietnamese restaurant with great food at great prices. Food: The food here is just as awesome as everyone has said. We started with an appetizer of Goi Cuon Tom and Thit Heo (Shrimp and Pork spring rolls). They were served with a hoisin peanut sauce that had been warmed. These were SO. GOOD. A great balance of fillings and the sauce is out of this world. We were practically licking the dish. For our entrees, I had the Hu Tieu (Seafood Noodle Soup), which was a combination of shrimp, squid, fishcake, and imitation crab. I absolutely adored it. The broth is super flavorful without being overly fishy. I got the rice noodles, which were cooked to perfection. The seafood was also cooked perfectly and they give you plenty of fresh bean sprouts, jalapeno, basil, and lime for more flavor! My boyfriend ordered the Banh Mi Tom Nuong sandwich, which had shrimp, mayo, onions, cucumbers, peppers, radish, and julienne carrots. He was extremely pleased with the sandwich and he's not even huge on veggies! The bread was crispy on the outside and perfectly soft inside. A great bargain, too, at only 6.00! I couldn't resist getting some of their French macarons to go. I love this cookie and Rice and Noodles did not disappoint. Their macarons are beautiful, with excellent flavor and a great texture! My personal favorite is the Vietnamese coffee flavor! Recommend: I can't imagine not liking pretty much anything on their menu, but I would definitely recommend the Seafood Noodle Soup! Atmosphere: The restaurant is small and was jam-packed with a line the entire time we were there. However, it is clean with enough room to move about. I do wish they would find a larger location! Service: The staff are SO friendly. We were helped by no less than three people! The servers help each other out between the busy tables, phone orders, and counter service. Delicious pho and great prices! Definitely recommend if you're looking for quality Vietnamese cuisine. The ingredients were fresh and the flavors were perfect! The server was kind and helpful (though her standard for "spicy" was much more advanced than ours). My one grievance: seating was very limited which made dinner feel a bit rushed (we went on a Monday night). This might be a better location for takeout if we lived closer. The. Best. Food. In. Lancaster. PERIOD. Such a HUGE, higher-end authentic Vietnamese menu for a 'Food Truck' price! My ONLY complaint is that wait times can be enhanced, given the size of your party-- the space is VERY small for the amount of traffic they generate, but the food taste, quality, and variety make this place AMAZING. There is many somethings for EVERYONE. Love bringing friends from out of town here! Well, don't ask me to pronounce it but it's the FS1: a sweet and sour tamarind soup with tomatoes, okra, fish, lots of rice and a fish on the side. Very delicious. Lots of different flavors- tamarind, veggies, and the fish on the side was wonderful. The sweet soup isnt really my thing but the freshness of these ingredients is obvious- jalapeños, fish, etc are all fresh and ready for your mouth!! Do it! read more

I can think of at least two other Vietnamese restaurants in town that I would choose to eat at any day over this one. I'm not sure how they keep getting so much business, but I think it's because they are the more "mainstream" of the Vietnamese restaurants in Lancaster. Their portions are small with higher prices. Their pho broth is lacking in flavor, is too oily, and the meat was not so good. Spring roll wrappers had a chemical smell and are much smaller than when you order them elsewhere! Same food at their sister restaurant Sprout downtown. I've tried to like this place but it's just overall not great. read more

The food is soo good here ! I love the pho. And the appetizers are great ! I don't mind the small size of the place, it's cozy - but not cramped. But !!! The service is absolutely horrible. A staple of mine that I found as a student at MU that I've been happy to support for years. The family that owns the joint (as well as Sprout, downtown) are great people and are veterans of the industry. The pho is good, but more delicate than I generally prefer. However, their egg rolls (AP1) are crushable fried meat treats that beat out everyone else in the area since Khom's has left us. That, and their pho ap chao stir fry or yellow beef banh mi are my usuals here. It's a tinier place, which sometimes leads to longer waits during a dinner rush, but I've never had a bad meal here in all the years I've been a patron. read more

The owner Bernard is not the brightest guy and has horrible customer service. I asked for extra meat in two sandwiches I ordered and he tried to charge me over $15 for each sandwich. I explained to him that I just wanted extra meat and the cost shouldn't be that high. I explained to him that If I were to order two sandwiches and combine them it would be cheaper, he didn't understand. I said I'm not ordering two sandwiches, I just wanted extra meat and I wouldn't need the extra bread roll or vegetables. It's like ordering one noodle soup and ordering extra meat. Would he charge for two noodle soups or just the additional meat? Bernard needs to think about that one...seriously. read more

So good! Fresh, flavorful, delicious! Ordered online and food was ready on time. So glad I listened to the review that said they also had trouble finding good international food in these parts. This place did not disappoint. I had the pork noodle salad with fried egg roll added. Not sure if they do pickup only? Which works for me as I'm staying in a hotel close by and that's all I want. Building is modest, but honestly I think that's a good sign when it comes to "hole in the wall" type food. Really hit the spot for me tonight and I will definitely be back. read more
