My wife and I went here for an early Valentine's Day dinner. We were there on a Saturday night around 5:30 and there was only one other couple there. I'll tell you wait, this place is a hidden gem though. The place itself is an old Pizza Hut located between High Point and Jamestown. It's a small building with a drive through and quite a bit of parking for a small establishment. Nothing incredibly fancy but they had some nice touches such as homemade wicker decorations and traditional sauces on the tables. The lighting was not overly bright but was a nice ambiance setter. Our waitress was phenomenal. Very polite and explained everything to us. She reviewed the items we ordered and made sure we understood what everything was. She even explained to us how traditional Vietnamese people ate some of the dishes which added to the experience. We ordered 3 appetizers to split and get a taste of different things and it was nice as she brought out each one separately so we could enjoy what was just served. As for the food, we had the following: Rice Paper Rolls - all the ingredients were fresh and the vegetables were crisp. The peanut dipping sauce was to die for and could have been eaten by itself. Pulled Pork Sliders - a more modern take on pork buns. These were one of our favorite dishes . The cilantro was a little heavy but a minor complaint. Chicken Satay - absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection. The peanut sauce was glazed on and not too heavy. For our main course my wife had the House Pho and I had Beef Shortrib Banh Hoi. My wife really enjoyed her Pho although the tendon and tripe were chewy and not to her liking. The Banh Hoi was absolutely delicious and a fun way to eat dinner. For those who haven't had it, it's almost a make your own lettuce wrap with meat, a sheet of noodles, cucumber, and carrots. You then dip it in a broth. All of the flavors meld nicely and it was delicious! I had the short rib which were seasoned and cooked perfectly. I really enjoyed my pho! The only thing I would say is I wish the broth was a little hotter, but the flavor was really good. This is my best friend's favorite restaurant in the area, and I can see why. I love that their seafood options have different varieties of seafood. We were in town and needed a quick bite to eat and decided to come here based on reviews. The restaurant was clean, comfortable, and had a nice ambiance. Service was lack luster. We came in, and the server was having his lunch. He seated us, and we waited for minutes and had to wave him that we were ready to order. We placed an order, that itself was a disaster, since he couldn't really understand special requests, like less noodles and extra broth. So we decided to just order as is with my BF asking for extra meat, which he understood. The food came out in less than 10 minutes. And once served, he was never to be found again and had to walk up to the counter to pay. Now, the pho was good and the meats were tender. But, I've had way better pho in the East Coast. The young man at the drive in window was adorable he's definitely learning the family business and doing a great job! The ambiance is minimal, an old fastfood location. We didn't go inside as we were asked to go through the drive thru to get our order. We got garlic butter chicken wings unfortunately they were chewy and not very good. We stopped in here for dinner tonight after not eating here for a long time. No real reason why we haven't been here because it's always good! The lady serving us (maybe the owner?) was so nice and even said she recognized us. I love that kind of service, when you almost feel like you're eating with someone in their home. The pho was delicious and my dish, which I'd only had one other time in a different Vietnamese restaurant in Greensboro, was good but not what I expected. I'd seen someone on social media making this dish and it was so crispy! When I had it before it wasn't crispy at all (at the other place), but this time it was. It's a very messy dish to eat because you wrap a piece of the crepe in lettuce with some other toppings, then dip in the sauce provided. Very tasty! Rice Paper came highly recommended by a friend, and man what a great place to try out. I've been craving "something new", and since I don't eat Vietnamese food very often, this fit the bill. We went on a Sunday night when business is slow, and found the restaurant fairly empty. We were immediately greeted and seated. The service was extremely attentive the entire visit and despite other customers in the restaurant, I really felt like it was personal attention. The decor is cute, with bamboo conical hats hanging from the ceiling, calm oriental themed music, and dim lighting. There are some inconsistencies I noticed, like the menu saying they are open to 10pm, the sign on the door saying 8:30pm, and Yelp saying 8pm. This business owner seems to be active on Yelp since the majority of the images on the business page are posted by them. I would prefer to see more images from actual customers, but that is a minor complaint. I ordered the fresh lemonade, which was sweet but delicious. Notably, beverages do not include free refills which is not a big deal but a deviation from the norm in the region. We started with the shrimp and pork wontons as an appetizer, and while they were a bit oily because they were fresh from the deep frier, they were delicious and stuffed with meat. The accompanying sauce was very tasty as well, and we actually asked for extra later to enjoy on the Pad Thai. My wife ordered the chicken Pad Thai, which was fantastic. Many places I've been to lean very heavily into the peanut flavor to the point it feels like you're eating straight peanut butter, and it was very nice to have a sweet and spicy sauce with just a hint of peanut instead. I would absolutely order again. I had the house special Pho, and they warned me in advance that the dish contained tendon and tripe, which I'm sure is a negative for a fair amount of American customers. However, I knew what I was getting into and I was very happy with how tender and flavorful the dish was. It was a huge portion (I took a whole serving for lunch the next day home) and the meats were extremely tender. The flavor was great, and I really appreciated the spicy and Hoisin sauces on the table to customize it to my liking. We finished the meal with Mango Sticky Rice, one of my favorite treats. I thought it was interesting the rice was dyed green, and the rice was a bit dry and over-cooked, but it still tasted great and we really enjoyed it. Based on first impressions, this establishment looks a bit run down and doesn't readily catch your eye, but I really had a fantastic meal here and am glad I took the recommendation of a friend at face value. Lowkey dining room with an old school feel that may not appeal to some but the food was very good. Prompt and attentive service throughout our meal. We started with the hot tea which came out steaming and was perfect for the cold weather. The Spicy lemongrass beef soup was good. Tons of flavor and spice from the chili oil and lemongrass. Healthy amount of beef brisket and Vietnamese ham which reminded me of mortadella. Beef was very tender and the ham was a unique touch. This is where I appreciate the man seating me for noting this and not putting me at that table. However, the table across from me had not been cleared at all, as it still had a plate of rice, remaining curry and other meals that seemed like quite some time had passed since the diners left. Finally, I had asked the server for a lemonade. I didnt want any ice, so I pointed at the lemonade and said no ice. The server seemed unclear by what I said, so I said no ice cubes, which then changed no water cubes. Realistically I'd give this a 3.5. Rice Paper isn't amazing, yet it isn't bad nor really bad. They are solid for the most part but definitely lack in the typical Viet flavors you'd expect. Rice Paper has been open maybe three or four years now but not many people know of it. Kind of right in between Jamestown/High Point, it's in the middle of...really nowhere. I've never really been in awe of their food but I can see the effort and is a fair "backup" if you are in that area and wanting Viet food....fairly quick as it doesn't get too busy the times I've gone. The pho was average but very disappointed with their Bún bò Huế. I really don't think it was BBH at all that they gave me and more of a pho broth. It didn't have that sweetness nor spice, no lemongrass, and def not the reddish hue you're used to seeing. The Banh Hoi was pretty decent and the BBQ that came with it was very good. Very friendly and efficient staff. This is such a plus these days and such a relief. It makes our dining experience so much more enjoyable. Our duck confit on steamed buns was very tasty. I must admit that my picky husband enjoyed the taste but not the bun texture. He compared the steamed bun to a bouncy gymnastics mat. The lemongrass beef short ribs were fabulous and perfect in every way. The chicken salad was nothing to write home about. It was solidly good. Think dry coldslaw with thai basil and cilantro and sweet and sour dressing. Plus a couple of deli chicken slices. BIGGEST FAIL- the cavassa fries (yuka). They were served cold, dried out and unsalted. We got 8 dead fries. A major disappointment. It was served with underblended mayo and a touch of sriracha. Pretty gross. Love this place. One of the better Vietnamese restaurants I've had in NC. It's a little 2.5hr drive for me, (and of course I don't drive that far for food) and it's well worth it especially with the company I keep. So far, in the 3 or 4 times I've been there, I haven't had to wait to be seated. I typically get the Pho special which doesn't over fill me or keep me hungry. The fresh spring rolls are also delicious, decent sized, good amount of filling, and amazing sauce. Also, the wings are suuper amazing as well. The customer service is nice, a majority of them speak decent English. I haven't had any communication problems, so far I've two different servers and no messed up orders. My family and I will be bringing more friends and family there more often. read more

Rice Paper doesn't do anything exceptionally, but it does a number of things well. There is plenty of parking, and though the building seems small from the outside, plenty of seating as well. The interior is tastefully appointed with dark woods and hanging lights. The establishment was mostly empty when my wife and I visited, but we went during an off-hour (Sunday mid-afternoon). Lunchtime on a weekday may paint a different picture. The menu here is appreciably extensive. Banh mi, bubble teas, pho, and vermicelli bowls share the stage with dishes less common to the area such as hu tieu or pressed noodles (banh hoi). With the ability to go large or small, vegetarian or carnivorous, Rice Paper has something for everyone. For our first visit, my wife and I split a fresh roll and each took on a banh mi (grilled pork and the classic Vietnamese ham/pork/vegetable respectively). A Vietnamese coffee and a Thai tea rounded out our meal. The roll was lettuce-heavy but tasted fresh, and the accompanying peanut sauce delivered the expected flavor. The grilled pork banh mi was seasoned well, but both sandwiches were quite a departure from what we were used to. The bread was soft rather than crisp, and the mayo lacked tang. Perhaps Saigon Bakery has spoiled us. On a more positive note, the Thai tea seems like a future re-order, and the coffee was appreciably strong. As mentioned above, Rice Paper's offerings run the gamut from small bites to full meals, and the prices vary accordingly. Banh mi are a perfectly reasonable $5 each, and our app (sized for two people) was $7. Some of the rice and noodle dishes run into the teens, and nothing seemed like too much of a reach. Though servers were not always easy to understand, they were attentive and accommodating, and our food came out quickly. Were Rice Paper situated in the heart of Greensboro, it would be subject to stiffer competition and would rate an occasional visit for some of its less ubiquitous menu items. But in the eastern High Point/Jamestown area, it serves a much bigger need and is a must for anyone in the vicinity with an appreciation for Asian cuisines. read more

I've really been in an ethic food mood for awhile now - authentic and otherwise. I've tried new restaurants - Gourmet China, 18 Malaysia (excellent spicy ramen, among other things), Tampopo (great ramen also), Lao Restaurant, Black Ginger, BBQ Nation Indian, Alounenay Asian, Embur, Hometown Delicious, May Way Dumplings, and more. And I've revisited a number of old favorites - Golden Dragon, Golden Wok, La Palma, Ghassan's, Mizumi Hibachi, San Louis II, and more. Much of the more recent visits have centered on noodles in different forms and combinations. Recently, I picked this relatively new Vietnamese restaurant that opened in April in the location that formerly Village Cafe near Jamestown. I ordered the Pho with Rare Beef and Beef Meat Balls ($10), and Ham Banh Mi Sandwich ($5) for my lunch meal at the restaurant. I also picked 2 other entrees, Pork 2 Ways ($14) & Basil Beef ($15), and a Shredded Pork Banh Mi Sandwich ($5) to go, for my evening meal, and into the weekend. The Pho was very good, though not quite at the level of the best in the area (Pho Hien Vuong) and, of course, with this dish it comes down to the broth - the broth here isn't quite as deep, rich, or complex as that at the above restaurant. The serving is very well sized, in line with similar restaurants in the area, and there was an ample amount of the two meat items, and plenty of excellent noodles. The broth also contained white onion, cilantro, some Basil leaves, and chopped green onion. On the side was more Basil, bamboo shoots, lime wedges, and jalapeño slices. And a condiment caddy was provided with Hoisin Sauce, Sriracha, a house chili oil, a house chili paste, pickled red onions (really nice touch), and pickled Jalapenos! Ate so much of the Pho that I brought both sandwiches home, along with a good amount of the Pho! The Pork 2 Ways & the Basil Beef entrees (basically somewhere between a stir fry and a sauteed) were excellent, an interesting combination of tastes and textures, fresh tasting ingredients. Each came with rice and a small amount if salad, with a nice dressing. The pork dish came with a fried egg, but given the time lapse it added very little to the dish. I would reorder both of these dishes, as I would the Pho.The sandwiches were good, not great, though the bread was outstanding - the fillings were on the bland side, required some additional seasonings. Though the food overall was not the absolute best, the Pho and the sandwiches I refer to here, I will definitely come back for a quiet, relaxed lunch - I like the atmosphere, and the service was pleasant, engaging, and attentive, and the food anything but bad! read more

I visited the drive through yesterday for a Bahn-Mi sandwich. I was a little confused that you call your order in by phone from the drive through window. I got the fried pork bahn-mi and a fresh roll. The sandwich was pretty good, with the baguette being the star of the show. It is definitely a great value at $5, and you can't just pick up bahn-mi everywhere. The fresh roll wasn't too good. It was not cold, which is concerning with the shrimp content. Pho certain....a hard pass- Next time I'm in the area I'll definitely find another place for Pho. The positive reviews confused us because our experience was so blah and not the case. First, the ambiance is terribly lacking. There were small children playing on the floor in the kitchen area. You could hear them playing very loudly and running around the back of the restaurant. It did not make for a relaxing dinner. Secondly, the waitstaff had zero personality and was inattentive to the restaurant. While we we eating, we watched a family enter, wait at the front for someone to appear from the back to greet them...which never happened; so they left. It was a solid 5 minutes later that anyone appeared again. Lastly, the food was meh. We each ordered Pho which was lackluster in flavor in comparison to any other I have had previously. There was very minimal meat in our dishes. We ordered water to drink which oddly tasted terrible. We often drink water and this just tasted like the worst tap water ever. Ridiculous! I always go to Greensboro but only went because my mother lives in HP and was craving some pho. Will never go back. I am picky about Asian food. But I have grown to love Bahn mi sandwiches and have only really had them from food trucks. This is the first time we tried them in a restaurant and color me in unimpressed. One of the things I love about Bahn mi is all the interesting pickled vegetables.
