The food and ambiance here are authentic. It's a lovely, quiet space and the food is excellent. I've eaten here 3 times and the food is really good. The rare beef pho is delicious and filling. (4.25 stars) The owners of What Da Pho opened Xia's about a year ago, and so far, it's demonstrated staying power. It's a handsome space inside and out. As expected given its origins, Xia's menu skews Vietnamese (pho, banh mi, fresh rolls, and lettuce wraps), but there are Chinese influences as well. That menu isn't terribly large, but it does offer a good deal of versatility, including vegetarian options. My wife and I went with steamed dumplings followed by short ribs and garlic green beans with beef and rice. The flavors were excellent across the board. The green beans were sharply garlicky without overwhelming the palate while the ribs offered lemongrass notes and a hint of sweetness. The dumplings will make it hard to go back to the frozen version any time soon. Service was friendly and generally attentive. Our group of four ended up receiving dishes at different times, a possible product of the "small plates" concept blurring the distinction between courses. Speaking of which, expect small portions, especially for the near-entree prices paid. Nothing was outrageous, but a "come hungry and fill up" joint this is not. If you can look past that limitation, Xia's Asian Tapas offers tasty food in an attractive location. Provided you aren't famished, it's worth checking out. read more

We have wanted to try Xian Asian Tapas for a long time so we finally got there early one Saturday evening. It was just us and one other couple that seemed like regular customers from the conversation I overheard them having with their server. I could hear them easily because other than that conversation the dining room was silent. No music or anyone talking. A huge pet peeve of mine is when restaurants don't have any music playing in the background. Customers end up whispering to each other and it just ruins the experience for me honestly. The dining room temperature was also quite cold and none of the customers took off their coats while eating so I know it was not just me that felt it. We deliberated on what times to order since we knew we would be sharing. We finally decided and ended up getting steak skewers, a chicken dish that came with steamed rice and a Banh Mi sandwich. That seemed like it would be plenty. When the steak skewers came my husband and I were a little shocked at the small quantity. Two skewers on a plate with a slice of steak threaded on each one. That dish was $15. Was it delicious, absolutely! But I definitely felt it should have been much less expensive for the quantity of food. We thought the chicken dish would be the most filling since it also came with rice. Unfortunately that too fell short on our expectations and the rice was served in a stainless steel dish on a pedestal that didn't retain heat well so it was not very hot. The Banh mi had great flavors and was a smaller version of the traditional Banh mi I order at our favorite place in Greensboro. I will say the service was friendly. I only wish I didn't leave still hungry. Had the food been more reasonable I would have ordered more. I know it's supposed to be Tapas and that it's small dishes to share but when you see full entree prices for a 1/3 size portion it makes you wonder if it's worth it. This is a really cool place, attractively upfitted in a most modern way. The place has a sense of serenity, calmness - very pleasant, music softly playing. It is colorful, softly lit, and much of it is rather open, no crowded feeling. There are 2 dining areas - the main one and smaller one in the bar area. This spot was opened in Feb 2025 by Xia Lieu and his wife, Anna Bui. They also own and operate What Da Pho, which opened in late Dec of 2022. What Da Pho is a dedicated Vietnamese restaurant, while Xia's will be more Asian fusion. Xia was born in Vietnam but came to the USA when he was 4. His father was a chef, so he has been around the restaurant business most of his life. Xia opened his first restaurant in WS in 2006, Xia Asian Bistro, which closed in 2010. He operated several other Asian themed spots in Winston, and ones in Greensboro and Greenville. So there is much restaurant experience in him and his family. I've tried a Bahn Mi with pork, and one with beef. The sandwich comes with pickled carrots, daikons, cucumber, and house mayo. Maybe more than any sandwich, the Bahn Mi demands a great quality bread - and it is always a crusty baguette, thanks to the French influence in Vietnam. The one here was very good, not quite the best in the Triad, but very good. The ingredients were generally nice, if not exactly plentiful, though I would have preferred the cucumber be julienned and the lack of liver pate is definitely not traditional. The mayo alone, and the mentioned lack of live pate, didn't make the sandwich very flavorful. I added Lao Gan Ma Spicy Chili Crispy, then we had a winner! But "fixing" a food item that costs $8 to $9 is not something I'll try again. I also tried the Singapore Street Noodles with Shrimp. The noodles are vermicelli sized and plentiful, and the dish includes carrot, onion, Napa cabbage, and scallion with a spicy curry sauce. This dish was nice, and I've had it recently at Jade Garden, China House, New Sichuan, 18 MALYSIA, and Mr Lu's. I would order this item. It is not a menu item but an occasional special. read more

I can't believe it took me two years to discover this place! I stopped in for takeout tonight and the restaurant was adorable with its Christmas decorations and very clean. I came here for a weekday takeout lunch in search of garlic noodles. I ordered the shrimp, garlic noodles and the vegetarian spring rolls. i've been here one additional time since then and it's just OK. The second time was definitely not as good as the first time It's a bit overpriced for the amount of food that you get and there's nothing super special about the dish. Garlic noodles are very a simple dish, but can be executed well to be more impressive. It seems like they may be skipping out on some of those ingredients in an attempt to save money and increase profit margins. Unfortunately mediocre and inconsistent food that feels overpriced is not going to yield the repeat customers needed to sustain a new business. read more

I love this place so far! I've come here a few times-either in person or ordered thru door dash. The dishes I've had so far have all been great! The vermicelli bowls and banh mi's are my go-to's for lunch. I love that it's close by to my workplace and I can order online to pick up! Their pho is excellent (rare steak is my favorite) for this cold weather. Lots of open seating space and their staff is very friendly. Truly enjoyed this place. The food was really good! I had the Singapore noodles and the flavor was off the chain! The texture of the rice noodles was perfect, they did not fall apart and were firm but cooked! It is a bit spicy but i don't handle spice well and I was able to happily eat every bite! My wife has the Chicken Phơ. The broth is clear and full of flavor. The rice noodles, again, were perfect. My only complaint is it could have had more chicken. The flavor made up for that though. We also had the pork egg rolls and was very impressed. The wrap was light and crispy and the filling had great flavor. We also had the Chicken lettuce wraps. Loved the filling but would not have done the iceberg lettuce. It took away from the flavor of the filling. Greenleaf or romaine would have been much better. Still gave 5 stars because it was worth it! Service was very friendly and personable. The restaurant is quaint and inviting. A new addition to downtown, we stumbled across Xia's on social media and decided to try it. We came close to closing time and it was empty, but they were gracious and welcomed us to dine in anyways. The ambiance and decor is very nice, with warm dim lighting and just the right amount of decor without being overbearing. There was serene music playing in the background. There's two indoor areas for seating, one of which has a bar (but we didn't try that tonight since it was going to be a quick meal.) The menu is limited but has enough to satisfy most tastes. With Tapas in the name, there are of course many appetizer options from dumplings to egg rolls to edamame. We tried the fried pork dumplings and while they could have taken 30 more seconds in the pan to crisp, they tasted great and had a very tasty dipping sauce. My wife had the garlic noodles with chicken. We weren't sure what to expect with a description of "egg noodles" on the menu (that's a wide flat noodle in my mind), but they turned out to be what I would call Lo Mein noodles. The sauce they used was great, with a sweet and savory flavor mix and just the right amount of garlic. This was a very filling portion for the price, and we would definitely have it again. I saw a white board advertising Singapore street noodles as a special item, so I got those with pork as a protein option. I was not prepared for how large of a serving they brought out, and plenty of it ended up coming home with me. The board suggested it was spicy, and while I didn't appreciate much spice, it was very good flavor. A splash of Sriracha added the bit of spice I was craving. One thing I really enjoyed was having Hoisin sauce on the table along with the standard soy and Sriracha sauces. I am a huge fan of Hoisin though I have never seen it as a table condiment, so that was a nice treat. This is a great new addition to downtown, one which we will certainly come back to. I came here for a quick lunch , I had the tofu lettuce wraps . As a vegetarian these were 10/10 , you can taste the authentic flavor in the sauce compare to places like PF Chang and red bowl. The plate was a big portion came with a half a head of lettuce. The mix vegetables was good as well , only suggestion is more vegetables. Maybe I should've got the dinner size lol. The menu was catered more to pho and Thai meals . Next time I come I have to try the Pho bowls . This is more of a quick eats place , the establishment wasn't too attractive with ambience. I tried the plum wine which I enjoyed, but it is sweet if you do not like sweet wine. We also had their steamed dumplings and lettuce wraps, which were some of our favorite dishes. We visited Xia's Asian Tapas tonight and the food was great! I love a good tapas restaurant where you can share several items, and everything was tasty. There were so many enticing items to choose from it was hard to decide. We started with crab wantons and pork short ribs. An incredible layering of flavors. Yum! Ryan, the bartender, suggested garlic green beans and beef and I am so glad we took his advice. The tofu strips with peanut sauce were delightful. We wanted to try more but were full, so we will definitely be back! I love to support local restaurants and this is a great addition to Winston Salem. read more
