A huge snack room loaded with snacks and a clipboard where you can jot down anything they're missing. Large game room with all the latest consoles and games. Ping pong table. Nap room. Bean bags. Alcohol. People coming in at strange hours. Laundry machines (random). Crazy decorated walls and work areas. Smart people. A high programmer to business person ratio. Anyway, this is Yelp so I guess I should mention the food. Like most tech places, you need to find someone who works there to invite you to lunch. It's nothing I'd pay $20 for, but it's super good for cafeteria food at work, even if wasn't free (which it is). I've had ahi tuna salad there, some delicious baked chicken, grilled shish kabobs, salad, California rolls, and I heard they have a steak night too. And of course drinks are free so I grabbed a Naked Juice and some bottled water. Oh, and some candy. I've never eaten at Google, but in my mind, I figure it's gotta be somewhat close to eating at Palantir.

We won four hours of organizing services from Lisa at The Time Butler at a charity auction…read more We put off calling Lisa for a few months, but we eventually got around to making the appointment for a two-hour visit. I stalled by giving her a tour of the house, which took up most of the time, but she did "encourage" us to clear off the kitchen table -- we filled up a couple of bags of paper during that exercise. She returned a couple of weeks later, and we used up the other donated hours. On that visit, we cleared out the media shelves in the family room, uncovered the coffee table, and rediscovered the desk. We also filled up several bags of stuff (books, VHS tapes, magazines, toys, and who knows what else) which were suitable for charitable donations -- and Lisa took it all away. She's been back twice since then, helping us deal with the shelves and desk in the kitchen, all of which are organized, clear, and usable for the first time in a long time. And again, we donated a bunch of stuff to charity (as well as filling a recycle bin!). In between visits, I got rid of some excess hardware by putting it on craigslist (most of it sold within an hour); I've also started transferring old VHS tapes to DVD (though why I needed a DVD version of King Dinosaur is a matter of some debate with the rest of the members of the household). There's no magic to it -- we're doing all the work (well, she wields the labelmaker...) and making all the decisions. But she acts as a forcing function -- when she hands us a pile to go through, it seems silly to just put it back where it was (though "later" is always a valid decision -- and I've deferred some things by moving them to a room we haven't reached yet). I'm happy we won her services, and happier that I finally got around to calling and making the appointment!

The customer service here is abysmal. I called this place 4 times in the afternoon (well after…read moreopening hours) to inquire about film processing because their website is unclear on their services. No one picked up every time, they even just sent me straight to voicemail. I end up just driving over to find the place is not busy at the slightest. They just ignore calls. I decided to make the drive out here and just talk to them in person. I've never met someone more dismissive in my life. The owner cuts off everyone who speaks to him. Right in front of me there was a sweet old woman who noticed there was a cash discount that was posted on the well after she handed over her film, she kindly asked to pay in cash for the discount and the owner told her "Nah I already typed in your order I'm not changing it." Shoo's her away after that exchange, and then says goodbye calling her by her first name. Which tells me this is a regular customer that he treats like trash. I'm next, I pull out my super 8 film and before I can even ask a question he says "nah we don't do those you have to go somewhere else" Which is fine. Not everyone processes super 8 (even though the website says they do,) which is an old medium. But the delivery and customer service were horrible. Someone should have answered the phone in the first place so I wouldn't be here "bothering" this guy on his very busy day of sitting around doing nothing. Also, This guys website shouldn't be coded/designed like a 6th grader did it, so that way the information can be clear and easy to read. Their website explicitly says "We transfer 8mm and 16mm film" which makes me believe this owner is just lazy and chooses not to work. It's sad really, the film medium is a dying industry and there are very few people who can be there to revive this medium and unfortunately this one in the Bay Area can choose to help this art form, but instead they choose to be a lazy business owner who has disdain for people who want to support his dying business. I've received better customer service from fast food chains than this place. If/when his business fails it's not because of a lack of customers or demand of services. But at the fault of a pathetic and bitter business owner who does not deserve it. To everyone reading I recommend looking for mail in film transfer. They are much more accommodating than this pathetic place.

It was 30-year old cassette tapes of me interviewing my 98 year old grandmother over the phone. My voice was too loud and hers too faint. But they managed to improve the balance and remove much of the tape hiss. I can now enjoy my grandmother's stories of growing up in the early 1900's.

I thought long and hard about whether I wanted to leave a review or what I might say in a review…read more So, just know that it is with a heavy heart that I feel compelled, despite my instinct, to get my story out there. I was offered a job earlier this year directly from the principal. I was uncertain about the role but was deeply inspired by its prospects. Sensing my uncertainty, the principal invited me to speak with her recruiter, David, at Palo Alto Staffing. I spoke with David for several hours across several phone meetings. By all accounts, things were going smoothly. That was until I got a call from the very principal who offered me the job telling me that she was uncertain about moving forward. When I asked why, she told me that David told her I would be a liability and that I was unqualified for the role. Now, keep in mind, at this juncture David had articulated to me on more than one occasion that "there was no doubt in his mind that I could do the job." So, you can imagine my surprise when I learned he articulated the exact opposite story to the company. Moreover, I asked David as candidly as I could whether he was supporting and endorsing me for the role, to which he responded, unequivocally, "yes." Adding insult to injury, David expressed to the principal that he administered a test to me and that I failed that test. That is wholly untrue. Instead, David asked me one question over the phone regarding concerns relating to booking travel, and -frankly- my answer was far more sophisticated than his own. Somehow, David felt emboldened to translate that unstructured and cursory dialogue into a "test," that apparently I failed. The principal then told me that David put himself up for the job! Let me say that one more time so it sinks in. David, the recruiter, in the same email in which he disparages my professionalism and undermines my qualifications, submits himself for the role. Nevermind the obvious conflict of interest here, but if allegations of professionalism were my shortcoming, I can think of nothing more unprofessional than to overtly and explicitly betray the trust of the principal by simultaneously minimizing a candidate and then offering your own services in lieu of the candidate. In my final discussion with David, he instructed me to send the principal an email highlighting my enthusiasm for the role, and we planned for him to follow-up on that thread with his endorsement and a plan on next steps. Again, you can imagine my surprise when I sent the email he directed me to send, and David never responded. Curious, I sent him a text message and reminded him that I had sent the email. Still, no response. Instead, David decides to contravene everything he told me on the phone. It is worth noting there was one other individual in the discussion process who was an outside service provider for the principal. I called that person to ask what her and David discussed following our conversations that so dramatically altered the outcome. She told me she was, by all accounts, enthusiastic about me coming aboard. I was, yet again, shocked to discover that David never actually coordinated with this stakeholder, as he claimed he would. In other words, it never occurred to David that before he comes to the conclusion that I would be a liability to the principal, to check in with the one other person in the interview process. If that was insufficient for a review, let me add a few more notes. David insulted the principal to me! He criticized the size of her SFO. In the interest of placating him, I echoed his concerns, but I found it wholly inappropriate that he was insulting my putative boss. It was conveyed to me by a person whose privacy I would like to maintain that David may have intentionally torpedoed my candidacy for this role because I was sourced directly from the principal, perhaps calling into question whether he would be compensated on the hire. I cannot say if this is true or not, but at this juncture, it would not surprise me. I view David as a feckless sycophant, eagerly attaching himself to large-net-worth individuals and siphoning whatever value he can. I have a law degree with a certificate in corporate law. I worked at two startups leading up to their IPO. I have worked on dozens of multimillion-dollar deals. I served as Volunteer Assistant District Attorney for the Resentencing Task Force under DA Chesa Boudin. I have litigated on behalf of immigrant families who were taken advantage of. I raised 15k for the Alzheimer's Association last month. I was the former Head of Legal and Compliance at Planned Parenthood Northern California.
