After so many years, I am still fuming how poorly the dental work was done for me and my mother. All the fillings fell out in less than 1 year and the crown with the plastic post was poorly attached with a big cavity developed under the crown. I have been going to Dr. Felton for more than 10 years and have always had a great experience. Dr. Felton is a fantastic dentist! He's knowledgeable, gentle and genuinely cares about his patients. Growing up in Eastern Europe, I didn't have a luxury of braces, so you can imagine how my teeth looked. I was very anxious about it, and finally decided to do something about it. I researched online and found Dr. Felton - an experienced cosmetic dentist. When I came to see Dr. Felton I immediately felt comfortable. He explained what he thought needed to be done in details. He gave me options to choose from. He worked on a plan with me - yes, I needed a plan because of the amount of work my mouth needed. In four stages Dr. Felton completed my transformation and I got my beautiful smile! I am lucky I found Dr. Felton and grateful to him for the great job he did. Also, because of my genetically bad gums, I see him and his hygienist Nikki (who is the best!) every 3-4 months as a preventative measure and always have a pleasurable experience. I am so grateful for the time and energy he and his team spends on my dental care. And Dr. Felton's entire staff (especially David) are so nice and accommodating. My normal dentist is located out of town but, late on a Friday night, I had an old post-and-crown fall out, during dinner, and I called Dr. Fenton's office, in a panic, at 8am on a Saturday morning. To my delight, (I was tired of lisping and having friends calling me "snaggle tooth"), they were able to see me within 1 1/2 hours of my call. The office is just beautiful. The receptionist was a complete delight. The dental assistant was very pleasant and efficient. Everyone spoke clear English. They didn't make me fill out a ream of paperwork. And, most importantly, of course, they fixed my problem right away and without lectures or "sales pitches." To be fair, I wasn't actually seen by Dr. Felton, (I heard him being consulted, though), but I partially judge a doctor or dentist by how his office is organized and run. This one was top-notch and the entire experience couldn't have been better. If I decide to change dentists to San Francisco, this is where I will come. read more

I was super excited to find my new dentist in the city. I visit the swanky office in the financial district (that should have been my first clue) and think to myself, "oh, this is nice!" I had a crack in one of my crowns so I had to get them replaced. First, I get comprehensive x-rays done. The girl was super sweet but activated all of my gag reflexes with each x-ray. She tried her best but there were some she couldn't get due to my sensitivity to choking to death... Then I meet the dentist. He basically looks at my crowns and is like, "Oh, this is bad, this is really bad." Wtf? It's a crack! That's why I'm here! Fix it! After informing him that he was freaking me out, he told me that things were gonna be okay. I paid $300 for my crowns in LA...but here they were charging me $1500. F*ck it... I love my teeth... I'll do it if it's worth it. I have my appointments all ready to go... And then! I get a bill for $65 for X-rays! I have full dental coverage. I wasn't even there for an hour, I got my standard X-rays and I got charged. It's the principle... Yes, I'm willing to pay for amazing crowns but X-rays ? You can't just take the insurance money? You have to charge the patient? Makes sense because they have to pay for the rent for their office ... They did give me a free toothbrush, although I wouldn't be surprised if I get a bill later... So on to the next dentist...any recommendations for a good cosmetic dentist ??? read more

To my great horror and embarrassment, I realized that I had chipped my front tooth on a plum pit and needed to find a dentist ASAP. Being new to the city, I immediately jumped on Yelp and was led to Dr. Felton. Wow, what positive reviews, and I agree that he does deserve them. He and his staff did not disappoint! I felt like he really cared about me as a patient. He patiently explained what was happening to my teeth (I grind my teeth), and his recommendations. For those with chips, he basically applied a bonded resin to my tooth, then polished and evened out my front teeth. I left the office with an even better smile than I had before the chip! I have nothing but wonderful things to say about Dr. Felton and his practice. I generally hate dentists because of past experiences - 6 years of braces to start. Dentists are generally never pleasant but you need them because you're in pain or something is going on with your teeth. It had been 2 almost 3 years since I got my last teeth cleaning and I was incredibly hesitant given my last experience of being poked and shown the needle going into my gums. But I really needed it done because of all the buildup. I tried another dentist nearby and although tentative, they wanted me to do a deep cleaning and quoted me $$$$ for just that. And they still managed to make me really uncomfortable during my check up. So, I wanted a second opinion and came across Doctor Felton's Yelp page. I made an appointment with their amazing office manager, David who is just an absolute pleasure to speak with and see. He squeezed me in the same week and followed up with reminder text messages and two calls. Once I got there, he had assured me that he understood my fears and had told their hygienist about my past experiences. Doctor Felton, too assured me as I was about to sit down in the chair of what used to be doom. The hygienist was a beautiful gentle lady who said she was filled in on my hatred and fear for dentists and that she will go easy on me. She talked me through all the tools she was using, and made sure to gently numb my entire mouth with a paste because my pain tolerance isn't great. She allowed me to listen to music during her cleaning and would show me the tools beforehand, assuring me it wouldn't hurt. And before I know it, the whole thing was done and I felt ZERO pain and discomfort. After 15 years, I am glad to say I found my dentist! I would recommend Dr. Felton to anyone in the Bay Area and SF City. He is amazing and has amazing staff, much thanks to David. I have the worst freaking teeth on the planet, but Dr. Felton's office manages to make me feel okay about them. They have the sweetest staff ever (Katie, the girl who cleaned my teeth this morning stands out) and Dr. Felton is really gentle and understanding for those of us who are dentist phobic. He is also an incredibly skilled dentist. I ended up at his office by recommendation of my parent's dentist up north who thought a very messed up tooth might have to be pulled but knew that if anyone could save it, Dr. Felton would be the guy. He was able to fix me up, so now I'm loyal for life. I hear he's a great cosmetic dentist too. One last note. If you are afraid of heights more than you are afraid of the dentist, he might not be the guy for you. I discovered that I unfortunately needed to have 4 fillings on teeth in the top right of my mouth. Being nervous about visiting the dentist due to past experiences in the UK, I was apprehensive about the procedure to say the least. Dr. Felton is a WIZARD. It had been over a decade since I'd been to see the dentist, partly due to financial reasons, and partly because I'm notoriously phobic of anything related to dentistry. David, the office manager, has a jovial, old-world charm about him. They do a wonderful job working with your financial constraints, without ever compromising the high quality of service. The doctor is thoroughly professional with an empathetic POV. You can genuinely tell that he loves his job and takes pride in his craft. He is gentle, intuitive, accommodating, and is careful to explain all procedures in great detail. His expertise in cosmetic/restorative dentistry are simply astounding, and he's up-to-date on all the current technology the market has to offer. I came to Dr. Felton's practice after a friend raved about him so the bar was set incredibly high but I'm pleased to say he knocked it out of the park and then some. I must say (and brag, of course) that I've never really had any major dental problems. Aside from braces, one minor cavity and preventative sealants when I was younger, trips to the dentist have always been painless. That being said, what I've never has was a dentist who was honest, candid and had a practice truly designed to give full attention to their patients. On my first visit they did extensive x-rays which I must admit was annoying at first because some of shots were painful but doctor Felton explained what each shot was for and why. It was nice to have a dentist who took the time to explain what he was doing and what that meant for my dental health. Finally, perhaps the thing I was MOST impressed with regarding Dr. Felton is his honesty. I still have my wisdom teeth and every dentist I've been to has told me they need to come out, or my teeth will move. Funny how they've been telling me this for 10 years and nothing has changed. Dr. Felton was impressed that I still had them, but said he agreed, if they're not bothering you, no need to take them out. (Woohoo) But on top of that, I've been contemplating professional whitening which he assured me I didn't need. He also told me several other, less expensive was to accomplish my cosmetic results, despite the fact that his practice sells whitening products. His staff are on top of things and very friendly. I've had some major work done and Dr Felton takes the time to explain all of your options and let's you make the decision without any pressure. Dr. Felton and his staff are great. For the first time in my adult life, I don't dread going to the dentist. Not long ago I was experiencing pain in one of my teeth, so I called David (the office manager) and he fit me in for a checkup with Dr. Felton only hours later. After a quick examination, Dr. Felton reassured me that the pain was almost certainly being caused by not wearing my nightguard and grinding my teeth. That was excellent news since it was an easy fix, and on top of that, I wasn't charged for the visit. Truly above and beyond. I have been going to Dr. Felton for decades and my husband has been going there since he moved to the US in 1998. So we have a long and happy history with the good doctor and his staff. For me, going to the dentist is a treat because I feel so well taken care of by everyone in the office. David keeps the office running smoothly, doesn't get too upset when I cancel an appointment at the last minute (for good reasons, of course) and always gets me in as soon as possible for another time. He is a master at juggling the schedule. He keeps track of our insurance billing and never charges me up front - so insurance always pays first. He has reviewed various insurance plans for me as I have tried to find one that is good (there are none!) All the hygienists working for Dr. Felton are terrific - they are gentle, do a great job and are very friendly - always a smile and a happy greeting - makes you feel like they really want to take care of you. As for Dr. Felton, he is a master. I have had a couple of problem teeth that he has been watching for years. A very special situation due to braces I had as an adult - they cracked above the gum line. One was reabsorbing itself and when Dr. Felton wasn't sure what to do he referred me to a wonderful periodontist upstairs. Between the two of them, they have been monitoring the tooth for years trying to save it. Recently it cracked and half the tooth fell out. While my periodontist thought it was time for $10,000 worth of operations to extract, graft and implant, Dr. Felton came up with a brilliant solution to keep the tooth as long as possible and he filled it. So far that is working like a charm and we are hoping that we may be able to keep that tooth for a lot longer. My husband has had caps, crowns, and lots of other dental work and has always been well taken care of. Dental work is not cheap and Dr. Felton tries to do things in the most practical way to minimize our expenses. He is always professional, honest and truly caring. Dr. Felton is the kind of dentist that I thought only really existed in movies... kind, informative, professional, and clearly an expert in his field. I feel like all too often dentists these days are in it for the money (extra cosmetic dentistry work, recommending other types of expensive and unnecessary treatments) but Dr. Felton is incredibly genuine and honest about your situation. He has some useful technology (camera to see inside your teeth) but he doesn't rely on gadgets to show his expertise. My previous dentist had done a terrible job with my fillings (they had fallen out THREE TIMES). She had a swanky office with lots of gadgets, but apparently didn't really know how to do basic dentistry like fillings. Dr. Felton went in and fixed them all up. No problems ever since. That's what you want in a dentist - only one time for cavities! David at the front desk is friendly and helpful - making sure that insurance is taken care of with all those quirks in the system. Email and txt reminders are great as well! And having Saturdays as an option for booking is helpful for those who can't get away during the week. The office is open and has great natural light (unlike some of the cave-like offices I've visited). If you drive, the sutter stockton garage is just a block away. I will go to Dr. Felton as long as he practices (even if I move away, I'd come back just to see him). Dr. Felton placed crowns on my very 2 front teeth. The temporary crowns that were given while the permanent crowns were being made were horrible looking and of very low quality. I had to hide my teeth the entire 2 weeks. But I was assured that it would be worth the wait and I would be very pleased with the permanent crowns. So I waited. When the permanent crowns were finally put in, the right tooth protruded out way farther than the left and my smile did not look natural at all. I expressed my concerns, but Dr. Felton was not willing to redo the work. I paid top dollar (1500 each crown), since Dr. Felton is one of the most expensive in the city. This last week, the right crown cracked down the center and the entire back of it fell off. I called Dr. Felton's office and made an appointment for the next day. Hours later, I received a call from the front desk person David saying that he had reviewed my file and asked in a very curt and rude voice why I would want to come back to the office if I was originally unhappy. I explained again that the crown Dr. Felton placed has fallen apart and I want him to look at it. And this is what David says to me, exactly...."We do not want to see you. We do not want you here. We are not responsible for that crown." I was shocked. Never have I been treated in a more harsh and unprofessional way. I will now have no choice but to find another dentist, pay again and address this through the Better Business Bureau. There are so many other great dentists in the same building at 450 Sutter, such as Dr. Rebecca Castaneda or Dr. Claude Sidi. I wouldn't want anyone else to have to go through what I have and am going through because of my experience at Dr. Felton's dental office. read more

Doc was very professional, polite and seemed to be not pushy at all. I got here after not seeing any dentists for over 5 years and thought he'll tell me to change all of my fillings, but I was wrong. He showed me a tour of my mouth through little dental video camera and told me what needs attention and what can wait. He even made a little plan, based on priority and considering the financial impact. Same day he did 3 fillings within an hour and was trying to be as gentle as possible. I have not had a whole construction going on in my mouth ever, but he managed it. I did not feel a damn thing. He also corrected my bite a bit. Quite knowledgeable about new technologies but his office does not have any extra "bling" that is unnecessarily affecting the price, which I'm perfectly fine with His office manager, David, is quite a character:) you got to see him to understand what I mean (in a good way) Over all: glad I finally went to a dentist and glad I got him as a recommendation from my dear friend. It wouldn't surprise me if Dr. Felton, in fact, runs the best dental practice in San Francisco. Dr. Felton is extremely friendly and professional, his office manager David is a guy that you're happy to have fighting on your side against insurance companies, and his hygienists are top-notch. You really get the sense that they care about you and your teeth! While I recommend choosing a dentist based on what happens when you're in the dental chair, rather than what you can see from the chair, the views from his office are worth mentioning. The office looks out on the bay, coit tower, and telegraph hill. Not really a reason to choose Dr. Felton's office in and of itself, but something that I enjoy every time I visit. I should mention that my dad is a dentist in the Central Valley, and he went to UCSF dental school in the 1970s, where he was a classmate of Dr. Felton. He said Dr. Felton is the best dentist he knows. While I am a bit biased because of that personal connection, you'd figure that bias is more than offset by the fact that I have more information about dentists than the typical patient. Finding a good dentist is like finding a good auto mechanic: you never really know what you're going to get beforehand, and you're never completely sure what you got afterwards. Your teeth only grow back once, so take care of them by going to a good dentist. read more

dr. richard felton a.k.a the needle magician. dr. felton is great at explaining everything and making sure you know what all your options are. he was my second opinion and i was grateful to hear that i did not have any of the cavities my previous dentist said i had. he also presented alternatives to my "required" oral surgery. best of all...dr. felton is fantastic with the needle, didn't feel it go in at any point. david, the office manager, is the most wonderful person. he has everything set up electronically and goes out of his way to be helpful. confirmations are sent via email and if you need it, david is willing to give you a friendly reminder the day of your appointment. they are located at 450 sutter which is easy to get to and they do saturday appointments. read more

Dr. Robert Felton and staff are amazing! I had gone to a dentist nine years ago who said I needed to have two crowns. I listened since I thought he was the expert and later he said I needed to have two more crowns. I decided in that moment, I was not going to go back to this dentist again in Pacific Heights San Francisco. My dearest friend suggested her dentist and said he was amazing. I thought I'd give him a try. Well, I can't say anything but kind words about Dr. Felton and his staff! His dental practice is in the Financial district of San Francisco where you could do some great shopping after having such a pleasant visit at the dentist. You always leave his office with a beautiful smile. Dr. Felton examined of my teeth and advised I did not need to have two additional crowns and suggested that I replace some of those silver filings instead with white porcelain fillings. But, I've always been so very nervous when I go to the dentist since I'm so afraid of the drilling. Well, with gentleness and Dr. Felton's amazing skills , he was able to remove four old silver filings, two on each side of my mouth. After he finished, I had the most BEAUTIFUL smile ever. I receive continuous compliments about my teeth constantly and I want to personally thank Dr. Felton and his staff. Whenever I come to his office, his staff and he are timely and never late. My insurance paid for the exams and x-rays and also the filings were paid in full, blessings! Today, I got the last two silver filing removed and my teeth are completely simply stunning. I recommend Dr. Felton and staff with five stars+++. Additionally, my boys get there cleanings and exams from Dr. Felton as well. I have been a patient of Dr. Felton's for many years with no complaint. I loved the office and my hygenist and David the receptionist was always a delight. However, at my last appointment my regular hygenist was out so I had a substitute. She was lovely and skilled, but she seemed to be going a bit strong on my veneers. A few days after my cleaning, a veneer chipped. I called and left a VM explaining I felt she had gone a bit strong, and David replied via email that he was frustrated I tried to blame my broken veneer on the hygenist. In my book that is terrible customer service, especially given how long I have been a patient with no complaint. Sadly I will be leaving Dr. Felton's practice. If only David had been a bit more gracious and invited me in to have the Dr. take a look rather than chastising me I would have remained a patient. read more

What a nice man. A very unfortunate dental incident a few years ago has left me with major trust issues surrounding dentists (as well as all my current dental problems), but when I woke up on my birthday with an excruciating toothache (which I recognized from the last time I had one of those and it ended up being diagnosed as a dead tooth in need of a root canal) and two days and tons of advil later it wasn't getting any better, I decided I needed to bite the bullet and go see somebody. I followed Yelp to Dr. Felton's, mostly because he was close to me, and was able to get an appointment immediately. (I put in a request via their website but they were closed that day, and I got a call the next morning to come in a few hours later.) I explained to the office that since I have neither a job nor insurance right now I just wanted to focus on assessing the problem tooth and not taking any extra x-rays or committing to any procedures. Dr. Felton took one x-ray, told me it looked like I needed a root canal, told me he preferred to refer me to an expert (endodontist) rather than do it himself, and then took the time out of his day to talk about my options. He understood my financial situation and suggested (but didn't insist) that I talk to the endodontist about possibly doing the root canal in stages to make it more affordable. Not once did I feel like anyone was trying to sneak in extra charges or trying to rush me out to get in the next patient. As someone currently stressed about finances, a job search and dealing with intense tooth/jaw pain, talking to such a knowledgable and caring person was exactly what I needed. I actually love this office. When I first saw Dr. Felton I had not gone to the dentist in about two years. I had to get a number of fillings replaced and a root canal. From my experiance, Dr. Felton does not do unnecessary dental work. Which is good if you need a lot of catch up work done. He was (and continues to be) very nice, helpful, and informative. The hygienists are really nice and will actually make you feel better about even the minor improvement from your last visit. Which is something that I have rarely experienced before. read more

Meant to do this a while ago, but since that first experience I raved about in 2009, I have had cavities replaced, and my cleanings at this office, and I am still as much in love with Dr. Felton, his staff, and the continually wonderful manager David as ever before. LOVE DR FELTON and all his staff! this place is awesome. i have been coming here for years and have recruited many others to the office- all happy with their results. dr felton is calm and great at his job. the ambiance there is very serene and clean. who doesnt want a view of the bay when getting their teeth cleaned? also, the receptionist is lovely, very organized and extremely helpful. an they take delta dental. read more
