A league above the rest, this is hands down the best dental office I've ever been to. From the front desk staff, to the amazing hygienist, to the office itself, to of course Dr. VanCamp....I am impressed and grateful every time I go. I chose this practice because I saw they clean with ozone and don't use fluoride, both of which align with my perspective on health. But there are so many other unexpected benefits. I discovered they have a laser that treats cold sores. And not just treats...kills! Like, cures them. I've suffered from them my whole life and always understood that it would be that way forever. But they have this laser that, if you have an active cold sores, knocks it out and kills the virus for good in that spot, never to return again. I just got a giant one about a week and a half ago and went in to try it for the first time. The next day it was practically gone. I kid you not. If you've ever had these you know they last for weeks and it's a whole process of sadness, ugliness, and pain before they go away. Not this time. Because it was so big they invited me to come back the next day as well to zap it one more time. But by the third day, it was just a scab. Like a cut that was healing. 5 days later it was like it had never happened. Literally no sign of it. But the most amazing part is to think that it will never appear in that same place again. That after a lifetime of suffering through these there is an end in sight. I couldn't be more grateful. The laser was painless and quick. I was in and out both times in a half hour. Miraculous. Then yesterday I had a filling replaced. I'm a baby when it comes to dental pain and have had some trauma in the past and even the sound of the drill tends to trick me into feeling pain. Dr. VanCamp and Jose reassured me it would be quick and easy. And it was. In five minutes he had the filling out and in ten more had finished replacing it. Even the shot of local anesthesia was painless. I still couldn't even tell you if he worked on my top or bottom teeth. It was that painless. And afterwards I didn't have that droopy numb mouth sensation. Just absolute elite level perfect care. So far I've had two cleanings, a filling replaced, and the cold sore zapped. Each experience has convinced me more and more that I will never look for another dentist. And if you're looking for one, look no further. This is the one. 10/10. read more

Dr. VanCamp saved my 2021 Christmas/holidays. History: He gave me a small jar of Ozone at my last 6-month dental cleaning with a quick instruction on how to use it for cold sores/small mouth issues. By the way, that was the best dental cleaning I've ever had! Christmas week 2021: I experienced a sudden pain while eating my lunch -- I could not even bite down on soft food. I called the office and discovered they were closed for the holidays. I then remembered the OZONE and dabbed it on the sore tooth area. I texted Dr. VanCamp, and he quickly responded that he was out of the country and agreed the Ozone might be worth a try. By the next day, I could eat my food!!! I was thrilled!! It is now past New Year 2022, and I'm still fine. 1-star for competence. I saw Dr VanCamp for a year, and it was the worst dentistry experience of my life. I've had many fillings from many different dentists throughout my life, and this was the only time there were complications. At first, he messed up the numbing and when he drilled into my mouth, I felt everything. This has not happened with other dentists. Then once we got that figured out an hour later, the 3D printer he used to create my "superior" porcelain fillings messed up the shape and I had to sit there while he recreated them. He used the wait time to brag about how his use of a 3D printer supposedly makes his practice superior. I think it just makes it needlessly expensive. Then in the days following the filling, I had immense pain. Usually, the pain is gone an hour after leaving the dentist's office. I texted him, and he told me to come back. As soon he took a look, he saw that part of the filling had chipped off. This, despite the fact that he insists on using 3D printed porcelain fillings* for their superiority over composite fillings. I sat in his chair for another 2 hours as we went through the whole painful process again and he replaced the filling. Months later, I have sensitivity in the areas he filled. Again, this is a first, and I am worried. The cherry on top is that his practice is very salesy, as other reviews point out. My instinct after the first appointment was to switch to another practice. I wish I had done that. * Note that porcelain fillings are 2-3x the price of composite fillings, even after insurance. read more

Dr Van Camp is a phenomenally talented and knowledgeable holistic dentist. He was the first credible doctor in my two-year Lyme journey who really listened to the issues I was having, reacted with incredible compassion, and whose expertise has been instrumental in my recovery. He understands exactly how having metal fillings is detrimental not only to oral health, but also overall physical bodily health, and could explain those effects to me very clearly. He has a passion for oral health, and it really shows in the results of his work. Thanks to my Lyme disease, I've had to have several procedures done, including safely removing my metal fillings and most recently, my gum recession surgery. A couple days after having my metal fillings replaced with porcelain fillings (which he 3D-printed while I waited) I noticed that my bite wasn't quite right, so I called the office and even though I didn't have an appointment, they squeezed me in that very day to file down the filling. That Dr Van Camp uses the latest technology to do his dental work is a huge benefit. I had my metal crown replaced as well, and instead of having to bother with a temporary crown for 2 weeks while we waited for a permanent crown to be molded and sent back, which is the standard procedure, Dr Van Camp 3D printed a perfect porcelain crown in his office while I waited and I went home the same day we removed my old metal crown with my permanent, health-friendly porcelain crown. I've also had to have gum recession surgery, due to me chewing excessively with my misaligned teeth (I only chew with the right side of my mouth, it turns out). That my misaligned teeth were contributing to my gum recession was something that my traditional dentist had not mentioned to me, but that Dr Van Camp told me right away. On the day of our surgery, he lifted 5 of my gums (instead of just the 2 we'd initially discussed, thereby saving me another trip back for more surgery later) and inserted his regenerative matrix, which has healed beautifully since. It was a minimally invasive surgery thanks to the state of the art techniques Dr Van Camp used, it was a very easy and quick surgery and recovery. I can't recommend Dr Van Camp and his staff enough. They are lovely, friendly, compassionate, caring people, who take their work and my health very seriously. I can't thank them all enough for everything they have done for me. read more

I've been a patient of Dr. VanCamp's for about 5 years, and I honestly look forward to each appointment. The team is great and very attentive. The office makes you feel as if you are in a spa, between the music, lavender wraps, and warm towels they give you at the end of your appointment. And, most importantly, the dental care is excellent. INCREDIBLE CARE, HOLISTIC WORK. As someone who cares deeply about using holistic practices in all areas of my health, finding Dr. VanCamp was an enormous win. For the first time, I had a dentist that really cared about using the best most bio-compatible materials -- and while using the very best and safest technology. After doing years of research, I decided that I wanted to have my multiple mercury amalgam fillings removed using SAFE practices. This was my personal decision, and I knew I wanted to have it done, but, as an entrepreneur and scientifically minded engineer and studier of biology - I had many, many questions. The amount of questions I had, and details I had about the removal procedure was, without exaggeration - immense. Every single question was kindly, thoughtfully, and fully answered. The level to which Dr. VanCamp and Dennis went to answer my questions is something I have never at all seen in other medical or dental practices. Stellar experience from beginning to end! Respect Your Mouth dentistry is located near Union Square, making it very convenient for appointments during the work week. The wait before my first appointment was made even shorter thanks to the fact that I was able to complete many of my forms on their website prior to my visit. When I arrived at the office, the receptionist reviewed all of the forms with me and had me sign them electronically. Finally! A paperless office. It's always great to go to an office that is tech forward. The office was already winning points by me when I entered and noticed the Eames chairs in the waiting area. When the hygienist retrieved me from the waiting room, I was taking to an immaculately clean station for my digital X-rays and initial exam. With some of my previous dentists I've had to go to a separate area for X-rays. Here everything was done without having to move from my chair. One new thing I experienced here was the use of a digital camera pen, which she used to take detailed pictures of my teeth front and back. It was very neat to look at the screen and see the pictures of what I couldn't normally see while holding a mirror. She pointed out a few things that I hadn't heard from any of my previous dental visits, and she was pretty spot on. Throughout the cleaning, I was educated about a few things I could do to maintain good hygiene and some things I could improve on. Beyond providing some interesting tips on keeping my teeth and gums in good health, she also explained how those were tied to my general health. I'm a total geek for that kind of info, and she was glad to answer all of my questions. Another new tool that I hadn't seen before was a gum laser (I forgot what the actual thing is called.) I am sometimes wary of gimmicks or "new" methods that some dentists try to sell, but decided to try this out at least once. It looked like a dental pic, but at the end it had a fiber optic laser. The hygienist put this below the gum line after my deep clean. There wasn't any pain, and I wasn't sure what was happening at the time. What I did notice was how quickly my gums recovered over the next couple days. Usually after a deep clean, they are pretty sore. This seemed to quicken the healing process a bit, so I was pretty happy with the result. Dr. VanCamp did the post cleaning exam, and thanked me for the visit. He, and his staff, were all very friendly and made the entire experience a pleasure. I will definitely be going back, and highly recommend Respect Your Mouth dentistry. read more

ok, just when me thinks it cannot get any better....I had my cleaning appointment a couple of weeks ago and it was during the terrential downpour. I walked out of the MUNI station at Powell and it was dumping water like no ones business. People were screaming and running it was pretty ridiculous. Anyhow, me and my soaked self strolled into Dr. Van Camp's office and I saddled up for the cleaning. I was asked...do you want a warm wrap? Hell yes I do!!!! She procceded to go in back and came back with a warm Lavender wrap for my shoulders. It was heavenly and made the entire experience (being soaked and having my teeth cleaned) actually somewhat pleasurable. I also love that they put lip balm on you before they clean your teeth. I forget her name but the hygenist is funny...we started talking about how people tend to put off repair or get hacked out teeth jobs. She said "it is like when you see the houses that were built in the 70's and the kitchen is old school...it needs an update as does your dental work. I said "so you can say to them...right now your running a mustard colored electric stove and you should upgrade to the stainless steel viking range" I love these guys...my teeth look great by the way!!! read more

I've been a patient with Dr. Van Camp for the last five years. By far the best dentist and team I've had. They might not be the cheapest dentist around but you get what you pay for. They have the latest digital technology, cool spa like environment and I love the friendly staff- Dennis, Linda (hygienist) and Dr. Van Camp himself. They have made small adjustment to prior work, like my Cerec fillings for no extra charge and they stand behind their work. Dennis always explains at every visit what my anticipated copay is, after an estimate of how much my insurance will cover. On several instances he's been able to get them to pay for a larger portion than they normally would. I'm glad to have gotten rid of the old mercury laden amalgam fillings- YAY. They also been very generous in regularly donating dental supplies to Rainbow World Fund, an LGBT based humanitarian aid organization that I volunteer with which distributes medical and dental supplies to places such as Guatemala and Mexico. read more

I must have eaten something and I had cracked mI have been super bad a cracking my porcelain filling but when I contacted VanCamp dentistry, they quickly found me an available spot when I could come in and repaired it for me. John VanCamp belongs to a small but growing community of holistic dentists who are aware of the impact (good and bad) that dental work and materials can have on the human body. I have had eight all-ceramic restorations with John in the last six months, and I am very happy with the quality of work. I feel no sensitivity, and teeth look and feel great. My main goal was to replace my old mercury amalgam fillings with new biocompatible materials. I recommend John because he follows guidelines on safe amalgam removal, uses the best currently available materials and technology, such as CEREC 3D, and practices minimally invasive dentistry, thus keeping as much of a healthy tooth as possible. Also, he is well experienced, knowledgeable, has passion for his work, and a pleasant attitude. Finally, I cannot recommend enough to have your amalgams safely removed and replaced with better materials. I just moved to the city about a year ago and finally, after qualifying for dental insurance, went to see someone for a general checkup and cleaning. I just happened upon Dr. VanCamp through the system anthem gives you for finding doctors/dentists. I saw that he had good reviews and decided to give him a try. The staff there are all incredibly friendly and nice as well as competent. The office is very clean and comfortable and even stocked with a mini fridge full of juice and water; nice touch I thought. All of the equipment appears to be either new or in very good repair. I went for a check up and cleaning initially. I felt that they did a good job with the x-rays and what not. My cleaning was thorough and, for someone with very sensitive teeth and gums, wasn't painful. Turns out I had three fillings. They got me in two weeks later with a 15% discount for paying in cash and not postponing. I have a very sensitive gag reflex; one that really can't be stopped. They did their best to avoid it using there most advanced technologies, but when all was said and done we had to go back to good old cotton and jaw proppers. I was pleased to see that Dr. VanCamp had obvious experience in the chair (20 years or so by word) and was able to improvise to accommodate my very bothersome tongue and gag reflex. People complain about an up-sell attitude, and granted, there is one. But come on, business is business, and when you say no they don't press the matter. If he continues to provide what I'm looking for I'll give five stars next time around. read more
