They offer more things than you may be aware of. When looking for another gyno in my area, my insurance only was able to give me 2 options: Tan and another one that requires a referral. They did not mention that planned parenthood was an option. They are kind, knowledgeable, and supportive, but the front office and administrative side has been consistently frustrating. The administrative staff is disorganized and unprofessional. They frequently mix up appointment times, give conflicting information, and make even simple tasks feel unnecessarily difficult. They don't use email or an online portal to send updates, test results, or appointment confirmations, which makes it almost impossible to keep track of anything. Everything has to be done by phone, and the communication is often curt or dismissive. Another major frustration is that any time I need bloodwork, I have to schedule a completely separate appointment with a third-party lab instead of being able to do it in-office. This makes routine prenatal care far more inconvenient than it needs to be. I really wanted to have a good experience here, especially since the clinical care from the midwives has been positive, but the front-office management has caused so much stress and confusion that I'm choosing to switch practices. I am currently 36 weeks pregnant, and because of complications and concerns during my previous pregnancies, I expected a higher level of care, communication, and urgency this far along. There were concerns before my last appointment that resulted in me being sent to the hospital. I was told that she would meet me there because she wanted to see me "more in a hospital setting," but she never came. Instead, communication was handled through phone calls. At my most recent appointment, I explained that I had been experiencing contractions and asked her to examine me because I am already 36 weeks pregnant. She refused. The situation then escalated to the point where she raised her voice at me, told me to get out of her office, and refused to continue providing me care. No pregnant patient, especially someone this far along who is expressing concerns about contractions, should be spoken to or treated that way. What makes the situation even more frustrating is that Barstow has very limited options for OB care. Patients should not feel like they have to tolerate disrespectful treatment simply because there are only a couple of local providers available. Her staff has always been sweet and respectful, and my complaint is not with them. My experience with the doctor herself, however, has been completely different. I would not recommend her. If you have the ability to receive your prenatal care in Apple Valley or another surrounding area, I would seriously consider doing so.
