Rich's or Richi's depending on the sign above the window or the light up in the window or Richard's as here on Yelp - in Oceanside - that I have been using for many years, when I lived in Brooklyn and worked in Freeport still brought my shoes for minor repairs and was happy with it. This last time, I paid 30$ for a sealing of frayed heel areas, which in all honesty, as a professional my belief is that the procedure is more then just slapping a sticky leather piece over it, but what do I Know ? Nothing. I could have bought that from Amazon for 10$ and did it myself I guess. Every time I look at these boots I get upset and of course they are not priceless but they were my favorite and that's why I committed to having them repaired. Yes trades are a lost art but I'm wondering if there is more to learn here. read more

I brought my shoes in for half soles. Inside the shoes were very expensive, custom made orthotic insoles. When I picked up my shoes, the orthotics were missing. They searched for them but said they could not find them and they were never there. I am positive they were there when I brought them in. I believe someone carelessly threw them out while cleaning the shoes. No compensation was offered. read more

This place is a hidden gem! I do not live anywhere close to this place and I will travel the 40 minutes because Richard is the absolute best. He has fixed designer belts and shoes of mine that my local shoe repairs say they cannot even do! He will always find a way. His work is quality and done very quickly. I cannot recommend Richard highly enough. I have taken shoes to his shop many times over the last decade, and he always does a fantastic job, exceeding my expectations. The shoes I bring in are always heavily worn, and when I get them back they are like brand new. He has extended the life of some of my favorite pairs. I have had him replace zippers, add new heels, soles, the works. Recently brought in a pair of old Doc Martens for zipper replacement. These shoes went through a lot with me. Hikes, snow, etc, etc. They are 4 years old and look like new now. He even managed to repair a hole in the leather with a patch, something I did not think was possible- I can still see the hole but it is barely noticeable now, just looks like a deep wrinkle in the leather. As usual, the price for the repair was fair, the turnaround time was quick, and the service was fantastic. Will always bring my shoes to Richard first. read more

I don't like to review negatively but this is warranted. I dropped off a leather jacket to take the sleeves up. He said he could do it by Friday (1 week from drop off). I come exactly 1 week as agreed upon and it was not even started. Extremely unprofessional and unacceptable. Not only will I not have my jacket for my event this weekend but I drove 25 mins each way to pick up. Not even a call to say, I need more time before I made the trip. He runs a small shop, my guess it's him and his dad. I had a pair of Sperry's stretched with no problems. Actually, going back today to bring in 2 more pairs for stretching. Happy with his work. Yes, you have to prepay cash for the job but it's so inexpensive, so I don't see the problem. I just don't like the lack of parking around the store. The side lot is usually packed, then I have to park behind Modells and cross the street. Not convenient when it's raining out. read more

Steer clear! Beware! I recently went to Richards shoe repair with my .daughters Ugg bot in need of a new nylon zipper. He charged me $30 in advance (1st mistake) and said it would be done. When I picked it up i was stupidly in a hurry (2nd mistake) and didn't properly check. The zipper was repaired, not replaced and lasted a week. I then took it back and said YOU said you would replace the NYLON zipper for 30$ please do so. Well I picked it up today, again repaired not replaced with him pulling the zipper up and down saying " you unnerstan, it work" I said no I don't understand you said you would replace again, not repair. He said you come back if it no work and turned around and walked away. I was warned on the Oceanside Mom's fb page only too late to save me.
