Bikini Wax Waxing is generally not a pleasant experience. It's painful. Sometimes embarrassing. Sticky. But we do it anyway. Boys and girls. (That's right, I've seen you, big football player guy, getting your back waxed). Anyway. When you gotta do it, you gotta find someone good to do it to you. Richella is that someone. I can't believe I'm about to type this sentence: I actually had a good time getting my bikini wax today. Was it painful? Of course! Duh. You are ripping hairs out from the root in a decidedly sensitive area. But despite the inevitable pain Richella made the whole experience relaxing, fun, and easy. She's got a great sense of humor and a sexy Irish lilt to boot. I cannot recommend her high enough. I don't know if I'll get another bikini wax again, but if I do I know who's gonna do it. I feel so silly writing this review. ilso just finished writing trivia questions about aphrodisiacs and erogenous zones, so my censorship level is low. i have long been searching for a permanent home for my cooch to get groomed and have finally found a place i feel comfortable at. I needed a bikini wax for an upcoming underwear party and was recommended by a friend to go here. It is less expensive than my previous place and it turns out MUCH friendlier. She chatted the whole time with me about all kinds of stuff and really put me at ease and it was not excessively painful (we all know there is a little bit of pain) and I went home very happy and glowing about the experience. weird. Paid my first visit to Richella and let me just say I have found my new favorite person! She is beyond thorough and puts you at ease throughout the entire process. She is very conversational and before you know it you are done. The place isn't exactly in a 'spa like setting' but he prices ($45 for a full brazilian) make up for the lack of atmosphere. And lets be honest do I really care what the waiting room and room look like as long as its clean? No not really. She did a great job and I highly recommend her. My first time was with Richella ;) She really put me at ease. She has got to have the best personality for this type of profession. She's hilarious! In no time, we had had a great conversation and were done. She has you wipe the area with a baby wipe beforehand and with a cotton pad with oil afterwards (so your parts don't stick together). The space is small and not the most hip and happening, but I'd recommend her to anyone! She changes the towel after each client, uses disposable applicators (tongue depressors), and has tea tree oil (antibacterial) in her wax. Also, since she knew it was my first time, she gave me tons of advance for aftercare. She accidentally ran my AmEx even though the only take MC and Visa, and for some reason it was accepted. So once she realized, she had to call to ask what to do. She ended up voiding the transaction but felt so bad about the inconvenience that she knocked $10 off! I wasn't expecting it, and it was a nice gesture that is greatly appreciated. read more

I went to Richella for a Brazilian while I lived in Boston. Honestly, she is the one thing I miss most about Boston, I wish I could have brought her with me to Baltimore. I had previously had a bad experience with waxing, but I was determined to make it work, so I found Richella on Yelp (thanks everyone for the helpful reviewing). The shop is tiny and private. She locks the door to make sure nobody wanders in. When I went, she was doing the reception desk also. Richella was really nice. We chatted about this and that, and yes, it hurt, but not nearly as much as it could have. It was quick, $40, and a perfect job. She also had great soothing oil to put on afterwards, so I walked away feeling no pain at all- just refreshing smoothness. II have been going to Richella for facials for awhile. She's very personable and friendly, and makes sure you're comfortable. She really knows what she's talking about. Very knowledgeable! She had a lot of great skincare tips, and actually did a thorough regimen consultation with me following my first facial appointment. She was very patient, and spent a lot of time going over minor details and answering questions, etc. I'd definintely recommend her! --------------------------- UPDATE: I wanted to add to this review since it has been awhile. I have now been going to Richella every 5 weeks for facials for over a year now. My skin continues to look fantastic after every visit with her, and I am very picky. She also gives me lots of freebies and samples, and her continuous skincare tips have been really helpful. The atmosphere definitely isn't Newbury Street, but Richella is effective and knows her stuff, even more so than many aestheticians I've seen over on Newbury, and she has a MUCH better price. If you're looking for serious skincare and want to see a professional who will help you take the best care of yourself that you can, and you're not just looking for some randomly-selected face cream and a massage in a dimly lit room, then Richella is for you. Richella is a goddess! She has the nicest demeanor and is so pleasant to see. I've been to her a few times now for waxing and I don't think I could ever go see anyone else. She's very quick but does a thorough job. Although I don't think anyone could erase the pain involved, Richella definitely makes it more tolerable. My experience with Richella was not great. She uses fabric strips to remove the wax and hair, which I've since learned is not good for sensitive skin. The pain was far worse than my other experiences and persisted for a few days. It felt and looked like I had a really bad sunburn. Not attractive, or comfortable. Only reason I gave it 3 stars is because of some specific concerns. Perhaps, I have really high standards for a waxing place. Prior to going to Richella's Skincare Studio, I went to Solace Wax salon and Joi Salon (both in the north end) and they were excellent about using a new stick for every application of wax and not double-dipping sticks in the same wax pot. And I can't say that's completely the case for this place. It breaks my heart to even write this review because other than this specific concern, I found that Richella is extremely friendly and chatty so you don't feel awkward having a wax and that she can do really good eyebrow shaping and offers extremely affordable prices. However, I wanted to post this for people who have similar concerns like me just to get a heads up. read more
