I emailed them a detailed description and pictures of a very nice item to see if they wanted to put it on consignment for me. After a week of not hearing back from them I called, the person I spoke with said that they received my email and will get back to me the following day. Another week has past and yet no response in the form of an email, call, text or anything. If it's not an item they can sell for me great I will accept that but don't just blow off people and expect them to come back with other items to consign or buy here. Eventually they will do this to a lot of people who support their business, and they will stop coming or using them all together. Hopefully, the owner will read this and realize or is aware of how this will affect them. A loyal costumer I am no longer.....sorry not sorry. read more

We had four antique wood chairs that we inherited from my mother. The chairs had exceptional detail chiseled into the wood portions. The upholstry was recently redone and in excellent condition. Bay Home Consignment agreed to sell the chairs on consignment. They sold in about 6 weeks. The consignment percentage seemed high, but then again their costs are likely high. I was looking for a sizable wardrobe that would match mid century bedroom furniture and I called them. The person on the phone said they had two pieces described them and told me the price. I stopped by pottery barn outlet first and didn't find a thing. Went to Bay Home and found a beautiful Glenn of California wardrobe for a great price given the quality. August helped me and another man and both were knowledgeable. Their delivery vendor was able to deliver same day so I had my wardrobe in my home within two hours of purchase. It was all amazing! I've been here on several occasions. I own many pieces of vintage MCM furniture, which is what they specialize in here. The last time I was here, I was looking for a pair of nightstands. The selection was extremely limited. They only had 1 which was $1400 (for the pair). It had a lot of embellishments so it was not my style but nice pieces. Generally for this price range, I expect a little service. My husband and I look young and maybe that's why we were ignored? In the Bay Area, it's probably not a good idea to assume young people can't afford nice things haha! read more

I wanted to like Bay Home, but there were a few hiccups for me. First, price range. The items at Bay Home seemed to be priced roughly 2-3 times what they're generally worth. In my opinion you can buy new furniture that's higher quality for less. Second, taste level. There were about a handful of items I'd say were in good taste. Several items screamed Blanche Devereaux or were just aged 70's estate sale fare. Which, unfortunately if it's not Pierre Cardin Mod it's probably not worth the $2k price tag. While we were greeted on our way out, it overall wasn't my style or price range. We likely won't be back. read more

If you are selling items here, be very wary. My last (and final) experience finally made me realize that there was little intent from ownership to pay for consigned items after sold. I have sold many items here for several decades, and again I have been not paid. This first occurred 20 years ago and I let it go. A number of years after that I had to call for about 6 months to get a check. Now, I get no response after calls and emails. I just returned to Bay Home Furniure to buy an end table on which to put a sculpture I just bought from the Leopold Gallery in Kansas City. I had seen a small cube table at Stuff when I was there before, but when I went back for it today it was gone, so I went to Bay Home. I saw a small side room I hadn't seen the times I had been there before and started there, then walked through the warehouse looking at tables. Joe greeted me as I wandered. When I found the table I wanted I found him up front and he brought it up for me. He rang it up, dusted it off w/ a cloth and carried it out to the car for me. He was very nice. DO NOT come here to sell, terrible customer service. I had been a buyer/seller for years as there is a decent curation of items but the last time I tried to sell something here everything went wrong. Storytime: I emailed days in advance and called ahead the morning-of to double confirm that I can bring a piece in perfect like-new condition to sell and was told it was approved. I drove two hours in traffic and unloaded the furniture only to have the owner, Joe, come out and rudely yell at me that somehow I have made a mistake and they won't accept it, without empathy. I was floored. After driving an incredible distance and confirming verbally if I can drive up, it's somehow my fault? Simply unprofessional. I sent photos and a great description and was given back a 4 word email...."we won't take this". No explanation, no other words. Went here with my bestie last week to pick out some inexpensive furniture and art. Yelp recommended it as the "5th best charity shop in the East Bay" (we don't, as a rule, like going to the East Bay). We were generally disappointed - was definitely NOT WORTH THE DRIVE! Although it has the "look and feel" of a charity shop, the prices were over the top - like more of a boutique! Who wants to overpay for used furniture? Nobody! There was overall a smell of bad body odor. Although it has been very warm lately, I would think staff would keep deodorant and cologne available so that they will not offend the customers. So torn about this review. We've been to Bay Home a few times while we try to find furniture for the place we moved into. They always have beautiful pieces at reasonable prices. Some are consignments, some are vintage, and some are order made. In late November of last year, we found a sofa that we liked but it wasn't in the fabric we wanted. Luckily, it was order-made for Bay Home so we placed an order for it with the fabric and color we wanted. We were told it'd take about 2-3 months for the order. That's fine and we left a 50% deposit for it with our name, address, and phone number. Scroll ahead 3 months to Feb of this year and we hadn't heard anything from Bay Home - nothing, zip, nada. So I give them a call on a Thursday and am told they'd call me back. Wait a day and no call back. Friday, I give them a call and they say they'll call me back. No call back. Saturday and Sunday no call back. Finally, Monday they call back. Finally, on Monday, JS the manager calls me back. She says that they had lost my order and that they had actually not ordered my sofa from their manufacturer. Essentially nothing had happened in the past three months. She says that they'd now re-ordered my sofa and it would arrive in May -- three months from now. I'm sorry, that's not really how it works. You can't lose a custom order and then when the customer calls, just go ahead and reorder without asking -- resulting in another 3 month delay. I asked whether they had any system for making sure customer orders were actually placed and tracked and JS had no response. We cancelled and asked for our money back. So, the tl;dr is: great items, good prices, the manager JS is lacking in professionalism and their order-tracking system sucks. So only buy stuff that is in-stock and on the floor. read more

I just moved back here and needed to find furniture. The customer service was above and beyond what I expected. Not only do they have an incredibly thoughtful collection of furniture, they will help a busy person zero-in on what they need to make shopping smooth and enjoyable. They even gave me a recommendation for a website to find an item they didn't have in stock. I was impressed. I stopped into the store because I pass it quite frequently and I now have a mid century modern home but very little furniture. This store has so much mid century furniture and art and lighting! What a find! The prices seem pretty fair considering it's high quality and in great shape. I left with two wire chairs for my new solarium and I couldn't be happier! He even loaded them up for me in my car. Highly recommend if you are into consignment or mid century modern furniture. So much cool stuff! I LOVE Bay Home Consignment! I have found the most unique pieces. The inventory always changes and I love going there to see what's new. I live an hour away and it is so worth it to drive there. I really enjoy making a day out of it. Their furniture is amazing quality and they have both new and used options. I purchased one of their new convertible couches and it is sooo comfortable. There is no line in the middle and it feels like a real bed. Plus when it's not in use it looks fabulous. I also purchased some bedside tables. They are such wonderful quality and they are stunning. They really make my room. I most recently purchased a piece of art and it is going to make such a big impact in my home. I always come here first when I'm looking for something. Both Alison and Joe are the friendliest people who I enjoy talking to when looking for a new piece. They've helped me furnish my home with furniture (like my orbiter lamp) I will have for a lifetime. They are kind, funny, helpful, and knowledgable. Nice furniture but super snobby owner. I emailed the owner about some acrylic chairs I wanted to sell, including photos and the link to the webpage. He said to bring them in. When I showed up and told him what I have he was so rude and condescending. The chairs were $200 each from Wayfair.com (still new in the box) and he acted like I was trying to unload a stained couch from goodwill. Said maybe he could sell them for $50 each and acted like he was doing me some great charity for taking them off my hands. I understand they aren't from an overpriced designer, but they are on trend and brand new. Unfortunately for him we are in the middle of a huge renovation and I know where we won't be purchasing anything from. (in the words of Julia Roberts, "big mistake") read more

We just moved from the NYC to the East Bay and all of a sudden have a house to fill. We made Bay Home one of our first stops on the advice of family, and are so glad we did! On our first visit the associate (Doug?) was super knowledgeable and helpful, with zero pressure. We came back the next day and Neil helped us put together a few great pieces to anchor our living and dining rooms. Prices are very fair considering the quality of the items. They also work with an independent delivery guy named Jose who was able to deliver our items the day we bought them. UPDATE: Just as I suspected, Joe lied: he never sold the piece, a credenza, to a "designer". The credenza is now listed for sale in his Chairish shop for TWICE the price Allison originally offered to sell it to me for. Why he would go to the lengths of condescending and shaming me when I called back to buy it is perplexing... -- ORIGINAL: I'm not surprised to see bad reviews here for the owner Joe. I looked up reviews immediately after my recent bad experience with him because I knew I would find some--there's no way I'm the only person he's treated this badly! He is obviously a mean, angry, sad person. His behavior was unprofessional, rude and condescending. Joe yelled at me. He fought me on a price that his own employee (a very nice and professional Allison) had quoted me earlier on a piece of furniture. After he yelled at me and was haughty towards me about price, I left immediately because I was so taken aback. Then, when I called two hours later to go ahead and purchase the piece (even though at this point I hated the idea of giving Joe money, but wanted the piece badly enough), Joe told me the piece had sold and that a "designer bought it for a client" in a completely snobby tone. He said "stuff sells very quickly around here." Funny, Allison had told me earlier the piece had been there for ages and it wouldn't sell, and that she'd give me a discount because she just wanted to see it go to a good home. (She also mentioned Joe's wife wanted the same piece for a while so they put a SOLD sign on it for a few weeks but then decided to take it off.) Sounds like Joe got his ego hurt: How dare someone try to bargain with him at a consignment store! Ha. Clearly, Joe fancies himself an interiors god (he's not) and his shop some sort of interiors mecca (it's not). He should be careful who he's dealing with-maybe the person he was rude to works as a designer and purchases furniture on the regular? Dear Joe Kunis, the President/Owner of the Bay Home consignment furniture: I saw the beautiful sign of your store while driving back from Marin to the Peninsula and immediately exited the freeway as I had a fast approaching deadline for a large home furnishing project. As soon as I walked in I was warmly greeted by a friendly young man who promptly informed me that I had indeed dropped in at a great time because there was a 20% off sale going on throughout the weekend. The store looked spacious and neatly arranged and I was told there was even a second floor. YES, I though, the search was over. I started looking at the furniture, the good the bad and the ugly (There were a decent number of each :) However I immediately spotted 4 to 5 pieces which had a great potential. As a designer I have to balance quality, design and value and while I was roughly adding up the numbers in my mind, I noticed that you did not have price tickets for some of most prominent pieces in your showroom. At this point I heard someone behind me said with a very loud voice: "That's a GREAT table..." You did not greet me or introduce yourself! I turned around and saw you approaching; I was hoping when you reached me you would lower your voice but no such luck! Maybe you were playing to an audience, maybe you were using me as a training subject for your staff or you just assumed I was hard of hearing?! If this was a training session for the staff the subject should have been: How to lose a sure sale in 10 min or less! Let's review how many things you did wrong in the space of 10-15 min resulting in my leaving your store and never coming back. 1- You shouted (Yes you got even lauder) the $4500 price for the dining table thinking you can quality the customer by checking their reaction to the sticker price! 2- You angrily denied having a 20% off sale! Told me the sale was over and you can only give me "maybe" $100-200 discount. 3- You were asking me to point out just who it was who told me there was a sale and thank god I did not noticed his name when I first entered the store. I wanted to say please don't fire him but on the other hand it may have been a blessing for him. 4- You then started a laud lecture about how your store was NOT a Charity shop! How this big store comes with rent and utility bills and how you have to pay your staff and how your furniture are your commodity and you need to get what they are worth and...... Wow....I had no idea! Thanks for enlightening me Joe! You think the rent is high for the shoreline warehouse style spaces next to freeway? You are welcome to come to Burlingame and San Carlos to compare your expenses and say hello to your colleagues whom I have been dealing with for years and never had to endure an economics lecture from them while I'm trying to give them a good business. 5- I asked about delivery, you told me that would be handled by a third party and you had no idea of the cost and the timing and I would have had to call them and ask. To be a president and an owner and to be so clueless about such a big aspect of your business is not very reassuring. What if there is a problem? Who would be responsible? 6- I did ask for your card at that point, you handed me one and pointed out that you were indeed the owner! OK!!!! Pieces fell into place! Now it was clear why you were not fired from this job long time ago! Well Joe I thought everybody might have a bad day and I thought that was yours. Frankly by reading the other reviews here I think you must have about 360 bad days in a year! I make sure I do recycle your card after this and let's hope it'll go back to the poor tree it came from ASAP.
