First stumbled upon this family-owned gem of an eatery during a weekend business trip to Williamsburg, VA. They're open until 9p and within walking distance from Williamsburg Lodge/Duke of Gloucester St area; a dedicated FREE parking lot (rare to that section) does exist directly out front. Even though my colleague and I entered 20 minutes before close, the counter server was friendly and hospitable. She offered menu recommendations and promised portion sizes were large, which was true; the patience she showed when my co-worker and I were deciding what fixins to include on the side versus on the sandwhich was impressive. Plus, she called me "hunny," which made me smile. While we waited, I scoped out the clean and hip atmosphere with lots of indoor seating that also featured some HDTVs, one showing an NFL game! Rick's had a good variety of beers, both micro and macro brews, and sodas - they do have happy hour specials posted. Our food was hot, made fresh and delicious. So good, they may need to rename the area "Philly-amsburg!" My co-worker and I split halves so we could both taste the regular philly and chicken philly. We ordered fries but didn't even put a dent in them because the portions were so generous. For carb conscious folks, they can nix the bread and serve the traditional sandwich ingredients as a salad. They were technically closed when we were eating but NEVER ONCE rushed us out or hinted for us to leave. I've visited Williamsburg and this store the week after Thanksgiving 2017 so this is kinda late but never too late! Before I go into details this is a MUST GO restaurant!! If you're visiting the city attractions then this is your lunch or dinner when you visit the Colonial Williamsburg! It's perfectly located at the border of the historical area but It has it's own parking lots so no worries about parking at all!! It's hard to find a point to start with but since you might be very hungry before reading this or the photos made you drool and starving let's talk food!! Very wide menu of selections and new creations of both beef and chicken cheesesteak! I was going crazy to try them all if I can but I was only able to try the Maryland cheesesteak with baby shrimp and the chicken cheesesteak!! The menu is in the photos and had much more items such as Reuben's ,Hoagies , club sandwiches , wings, chicken fingers , hot dogs/chili , appetizers , salads, burgers and very affordable big portion kids meals!! A lot? Right?? The Maryland cheesesteak with baby shrimp was a tale!! Wonderful quality of tasty meat, the right amount of toppings , delicious melting cheese, topped with tasty juicy baby shrimp (perfect size for such a sandwich and wasn't so tiny!) All cooked to perfection! It was really impressive!! The chicken was also very good but if you really have to choose only one then go for the beef option! Or if you like chicken then try one of the unusual ones! The place was simply well decorated , they have booths, big table for a big group , counter and high chairs by the store window and my favorite was a bar style seating where you can watch the TV! Store was very clean and bathroom as well! The costumer service was above and beyond wether by the nice lady the manager or by Kitty the owners daughter! They were so friendly and helpful with the first time customer experience even that they were so busy!! I really appreciate that! We were passing through Williamsburg VA on our way back to Ohio and stopped by at this place to grab food. You can order online and stop at the place to order. The service was super fast (i didn't order online and waited for only 5-8 minutes at most). Ordered 2 small beef cheese steaks (even smalls are quite big and will be more than enough for an adult) and fries. All for total of 24$. They moved all chairs to the corner so there is plenty of space to stand and wait. Needless to say - food was amazing. They put the add-ons to the bottom of the bun and add meat&cheese on top. read more

I'm sure the college students love this place as a cheese steak and fries is the perfect hangover food. For those of you who have a better pallet than a drunk or hungover college student I would say pass on this place. The portions are great but the food is super bland. The cheese steak I had didn't have any flavor at all. I kept having to add salt and pepper to it. The cheese fries also needed salt. The service was great and it seems to be popular with the locals that were coming in and out. So it could be I just came on a bad day. Excellent restaurant just off the hustle and bustle of historic Williamsburg. They offer a tremendous cheesesteak with many different options to customize it to your own taste. The hot peppers are a great enhancing addition to give the sandwich more pop then some of the original cheesesteaks locations in Philly. (and I've had a lot of cheesesteaks) Super fresh bread, made to order, piping hot, great burgers, sweet staff, an overall great experience. Super moist/juicy patties, shaved steak. The crinkly cut fries are bomb. The onion rings were amazing. I need to try the wings and maybe a different sub next time but it's so hard not to get the cheesesteak when I'm in town. Assortment of desserts and tons of drinks including beer and dr browns soda. So.... Pretty bad experience. I think the manager's name was Graham, at least that's what he said when I asked. We got here around 1355 and left around 1455 on 18Apr2019. Overall, food was "ok." It did take approximately 30 minutes from order to delivery of a cheese steak and a burger. When the cheese steak was delivered, the order was incorrect. ie, missing the cheese/cheese whiz. I told our hostess, she went in the back and they offered to remake it. We had waited long enough, I didn't want to wait any longer. They did comp the "combo" for one meal and I think the drinks. The way it works is when you combo a sandwich, that's in addition to the sandwich. I thought it was odd they'd comp the combo, not the sandwich because the sandwich was what they screwed up. But anyways. Graham did come out from the back and apologize and said it wouldn't have been an issue to remake it. I told him it took about 30 minutes to make the original meal, I didn't have time to wait any longer. Graham's response was something to the tune of "OK, whatever man. It didn't take 30 minutes. Have a great day!" So I'm glad a take pictures of everything. Note the pictures attached and the times: Menu: 1359 (just prior to ordering) Cheesesteak: 1428 (upon receipt. You're right Graham, 29 minute wait, not a 30 minute wait) So. The food was ok. Wasn't worth the drive over here, and the customer service from Graham sucked. read more

This would be our second time here, and what a surprise that young lady that waited on us 4yrs ago was still there. Her customer service is the best I ever had in life. The food was excellent. Most places I have to ask for extra of meat, not here they go above and beyond. We will be returning when we visit Virginia in the future 100percent only thing I got the wrong wings. My son and I were wandering around Williamsburg recently and were getting hungry. Luckily we ran into Rick's right around the corner from the W&M spirit store. And we definitely got lucky. He ordered the Ruben and I got a cheese steak sub. I ordered the small and it was plenty big. I could only eat half there. I took the other half home and ate it later and it was just as good. I don't really know how to describe the sub. I got it loaded with everything it comes with. It was just simply delicious. His Ruben was excellent. Neither of us got chips or a side of fries or anything. It's a little pricey, but well worth it. Definitely a go to spot if you're craving a real cheese steak. Oh, also, they didn't have fountain drinks. Just bottled sodas, water, and alcoholic beverages. Was in Williamsburg again last night and tried to go back but got there about 10 minutes before closing and they'd already shut the grill down. Routed this shop into our roadtrip plans into Williamsburg after all of the great reviews on Philly cheesesteaks. Rick's is in the heart of WM campus, near shops and boutiques. Thankfully, there is a parking lot and plenty of street parking available, which also makes it great to grab food and then walk around the town. The shop is very small with 3 or 4 tables inside and a couple tables outside to eat. We ordered the original philly cheesesteak and the pastrami Rueben with fries! Both sandwiches were a large portion and the fries were heaping as well. The rueben on toasted rye bread was absolutely delicious, and I would definitely order again. The Philly cheesesteak was also good, but not what I expected after all of the raving reviews. The sandwich was great, but the cheese was like Mexican queso and unfortunately I found a short hair or eyelash in my cheese :( Rick's is a solid option for a quick, quality sandwich in the area but make sure to bring cash to avoid 5% credit card fee! read more
