Hubby and I were in town for the weekend and happened upon this fun steak shop. It's a rather small restaurant with a very nostalgic decor theme. You'll see records and posters all over the walls. They have a small counter facing the parking lot and several tables for dine in. We were immediately greeted as we got to the counter to order. I ordered a small steak sub with onions, mushrooms their white American cheese. I made it a combo with fries and a water. Hubby ordered a large steak and bacon sub with lettuce, Mayo, onions, jalapeños, and mushrooms and also made it a combo. He added cheez wiz to it for a small up-charge. My small sub was huge! Cheesy goodness with steak oh you know we are all for it but this one was wayyy different from any other one I've ever had! So it was all about the cheese steak for us and me being me I always ask for the wiz with it as that's just the way I like it and here it was definitely an interesting one as it tasted like they mixed cream of celery soup with it as I just kept getting those notes over and over again while it was still yummy it was definitely something I haven't had in cheese steak form before! Their associates here were super friendly and just fun to talk with and also very informative about their menu which is always an awesome experience. BTW, credit card purchases are subject to a 3.27% upcharge! Our order was the menu special of French fries (crinkle cut) topped with cheesesteak and gravy. It was a huge portion suitable for a teenage boy. Fresh and hot. The other part of the order was a large Italian hoagie-cold topped with oil and vinegar - it was astoundingly massive. The hoagie roll was super fresh as well as the meats. Seating inside and out inside is rather cramped, especially with customers entering and slow to leave. They do a brisk carryout business as well, all handled by 1 young lady, taking handwritten orders, running the register, and handing out the orders. She was a key part of the smooth operation. All the great reviews where right! This place has really good cheesesteaks. Grew up outside of Philadelphia and have had many cheesesteaks. Some were super delicious (mostly from my hometown) and some were not even good imposters. Rick's is doing it right. The rolls make it as well as the fried onions and sweet peppers. I am definitely not a cheese wiz fan - provolone is the cheese for me and Rick's offered that as well as wiz. I was pleasantly surprised at the fries! They were crinkle cut, hot, crispy, and yummy! The portion was so big they had to tape the carton shut to keep it closed. The place is small so make plans to eat somewhere else if you go at a busy time. No need to travel to Philly because you will be disappointed I've eaten at Pats, Genos, Dessalandros, Angelos and the list goes on and none can compare to here. For $16 I was able to get a small sub and an order of fries that were both hefty in size. The steak was flavorful, the sub was gooey but not falling apart. My only qualm was I didn't think I needed to request my bread be toasted or my sandwich cut in half but you do. It's located near the campus and seems to be a popular spot. The dining area is quite small, but there are a few tables and seating for inside dining. I decided to dine-in and help but notice how business was steady the whole time I was there. This was a clear sign that the grub must be good. The menu offers a great selection of sandwiches and cheesesteak varieties, beer, wine and sodas. Shout out to the lady, I believe her name was Caitlin, who took my order. She was very friendly and offered help in navigating their menu. The ordering process was quick and even though it was somewhat crowded, the wait was no too long for my food. As for the food, all I can say is....it was HELLAICIOUS!! I did not expect so much food. I ordered a 8' Philly style cheesesteak with the works -- lettuce, tomato, hot peppers provolone and American cheese. The sandwich was so phat and stacked with juicy, seasoned meat! Listen, this sandwich weighed at least a pound or two! It was incredibly delicious, and the portion size was large. I only ate half my sandwich as it came with a heaping helping of meat. Not to mention, not sure who is baking the bread for these beastly sandwiches but it is top notch....chewy, fresh and hold up to the sandwich well. Went here on a Sunday before heading to Busch Gardens. Didn't know what to expect besides cheesesteak but my food was really good. The people working here were nice too, and their menu is large and also includes things besides cheesesteaks. The pizza cheesesteak I got was amazing but all of them sounded great and my companions all agreed that it was delicious. There's not much seating inside and the place closes somewhat early, but I'd go back regardless. I recommend this place, and I also recommend going back to the place you stay at after you're done eating to store your leftovers because the portions are massive here and you will most likely have leftovers. read more

All pictures I have seen subs were nice in full and was excited to know they had the same standards as other Ricks I have tried. This place deserves more than 5 stars for the food and awesome customer service. I stayed in Williamsburg for Turkey Day weekend. I love Philly cheesesteaks and this place was rated high on Yelp. I tried and it did not disappoint. The cashier was lovely. Helpful and taking care of everything. She answered our questions, made sure we had everything, and also took care of the delivery driver orders. All with an extremely pleasant and friendly attitude. I ordered a Philly cheesesteak and an Italian hoagie. The food was absolutely delicious. The price was great and the food quality was superb. I'm very sad this place is in VA and not in my home state GA lol. Do yourself a favor and go to this place if you're near it. Just do it. Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures to add. This place is super unassuming and located on a college campus but it's one of the best cheesesteaks I've ever had. The steak is shredded and plentiful, the sub rolls are soft, the food is made to order so it's hot, and the service is always pleasant. Over the years, we've tried the Maryland cheesesteak (with shrimp), bacon cheesesteak, and regular cheesesteak-- they are all really good so you can't go wrong! As someone who is originally from PA and has had many great Philly cheesesteaks IN Philadelphia and then experienced some very awful ones here in Virginia, I didn't expect much when I heard about Ricks and went in with no expectations only to be leaving feeling blown away. Very legit provolone style Philly cheesesteaks (yay no stinky cheez whiz!) that you can customize the heck out of. The regular size was large so the large is likely a two person or teenager size. I added just grilled onions and pickles on mine but there were many other options. I was less excited about the onion rings as they came out soft/soggy rather than crisp how I prefer them but portion was huge, several of us shared it. No soda fountain but many canned drink options.
