Food was excellent and the people there are genuine and friendly. I don't live nearby but if I did, I would gain a lot of weight.

Every time I go to Ricks I realized I waited too long into between trips! The pulled pork is always fantastic and he serves great sauces with it. I think it's the best friend chicken around, and I'm a fan of the potato wedges, and enjoy dipping them in the bbq sauce. They are always wonderfully friendly, and Mr. Rick does a great job giving awesome service. Definitely try them out if you haven't yet. read more

Stopped in after visiting the Oriental History museum and OMG, it did not disappoint! My wife and I shared a brisket sandwich and enjoyed a side of potato wedges. The crispiness of a slow smoke was spot on, and the juiciness and tenderness made you want to bite into more. A much needed addition to food choices here in Oriental. read more

We walked by Rick's on the way to the hardware store and decided to stop in. I had a 2 piece dark meat chicken with 1/4 lb of pulled/chopped pork with double collards, yum. My husband asked for a recommendation, and he suggested ribs, plus huge portions of coleslaw and Mac & Cheese for sides. I had 1/2 1/2 sweet tea and David had a negro modelo ($3 beers!) The chicken was very juicy & flavorful, I think it was brined. The pork was tradition NC pork, nice, smokey & tender. The collars had a nice kick of vinegar and red pepper, my favorite. It also came with slaw and a bun. There was so much food that I brought home another meal! The ribs were ridiculously good, falling off the bone tender! The slaw's vinegar based and delicious, mac & cheese was nicely done too. The sauces are really good too, the vinegar one was delicious. It was busy, locals definitely support Rick's, but if you are driving through or going down the ICW like we are, I highly recommend Rick's. It is walking distance from the harbor/dingy dock and next to the hardware store. My husband said that it's in his top 3 bbq favorites, and I concur! AMAZING QUALITY! I've had BBQ in Memphis, Kansas City, Texas, St. Louis and Carolina and IMHO Rick's is arguably the very best. Rick is a master at achieving just the right amount of smokiness, juiciness and tenderness in his ribs and pulled pork. He offers sauces for the ribs but they're super delicious without these additives. He is very picky about the quality of meat selected and the seasoning of his smoker. Pork is not the only highlight! The fried chicken is juicy with just the right amount of crispiness on the outside. They offer a nice variety of side, collard greens and slaw being my favorites. The peach cobbler is a must have! Here is a guy from Baltimur that can teach the locals how to smoke pig and other meats. His food is terrific because it tastes good and tastes like barbecue is supposed to taste. The state of Kentucky should make him a honorary colonel because his fried chicken is absolutely the best. He practices the art of cooking chicken, low and slow. I think that Colonel Sanders would be very impressed with his chicken. The side dishes are wonderful because they're made fresh and plus chef Rick and his wife make you feel right at home. It is in the town of Oriental, which is a great tourist spot and this restaurant is on the main drag. What a gem of a place! Plus he's got some good draft beer to wash things down. FYI, since he's from that Maryland city, he does something that's unique there, it's called pit roast beef. It's not a regular item on the menu, but when it is, try it. Love the pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw. Yummy brisket and the sides are always good! Mac and cheese ; green beans with turkey meat ( yes, delicious) everything is flavorful! Rick is friendly , kind and has a great sense of humor! Just a nice good feel little place to have a delicious and plentiful BBQ lunch or dinner. 2 things.....don't come late - they close exactly at 7 pm! And definitely get the cornbread if they have it! Moist and yummy. Gave a 4 only because I'd love to see a bit more attention to the area where we eat! Spruced up a bit! But 5 for food, 5 for service. read more

Lynne and I are used to really good food in Durham. After reading the reviews and comments on FB, we came in to get some ENC BBQ and some fried chicken. First off, I have to say that the fried chicken was just about perfect! Moist, crispy and not from a small bird. The BBQ was even better. We took it home and draped hot BBQ over our fresh salad. Excellent food, great value and a treasure as a great new option in the Oriental dining scene. Looking forward to what Rick, his team as well as their hardworking crew, come up with in the future. The ribs are great! Love the vinegar sauce. Moist and seasoned just right. Chicken is great too. My mouth is watering thinking about it.

Our first visit on a Thursday 5pm. We got the last chicken, 2 drumsticks for a 2 piece chicken dinner. Wish we could've said NO, if that's all ya got. Pulled BarBQ was good. Not a fan of slaw, potato salad creamer that most, mac'n'cheese just like I remember from school. Need to try other sides and their ribs, plus they have a chicken salad sandwich, so that's on my list next. read more

Ribs were nothing special, not smoked over wood for 8 hours that is for sure. A little dry too, tasted like they were over baked with a slightly Smokey spice mixture. Beans were too sweet and the two sauces they offer for the ribs were unremarkable. $40 of let down. read more

I only got the sample the pulled pork sandwiches of which I ordered two of them. They were fantastic. It is so nice to have a restaurant with a variety of food in Oriental again.
