I read reviews from locals and decided this was the spot. For take out I'm giving this a huge thumbs up. Everything was fresh and I was able to spice up my Mongolian Beef. No crazy after taste, you could tell they keep their fryers clean, and the Rangoon were homemade. The Orange Chicken only needed some zest. Never had "Chinese" food like this before. The "egg rolls" were an egg roll wrapper with ground beef and only ground beef in them. The General Tso sauce was a disgustingly thick orange flavor. Looked like mucus. The chicken lo mein was so bland and flavorless. The only vegetables they put in the lo mein is squash and raw onions. I tried the wonton soup and couldn't get past the smell of gasoline. Yuck! Yuck! And more yuck...the only edible food we ordered was the crab Rangoon. $60 in the trash If you have ever had Chinese food and you like it, DONT EAT HERE! read more

I've been going here off and on since they opened. The food is fine. The portions are large. With inflation their prices seem a bit high but not exorbitant. If all you want is a taste of Americanized Chinese food this will do. There are other similar Chinese restaurants around that are identical. I can't say that this is any better or worse than the others so my recommendation is neutral. Usually the owner is friendly as is the server from the Philippines. this makes twice, once again perfectly done food and service. house special lo mein and general so's. fried dumplings are plenty and tasty with homemade sauce for dunking.. the egg drop soup was not the oily crap you normally get, it was rich and tasty, hot and flavorfull. our hostess was precise in the order process and when it came time to wrap our takehome leftovers they were wrapped with care. i'm going back again, you really need to try this restaurant, they are special people. read more

Great food! Called ahead for pick up as we had a large order. Everything was made correctly, and was still hot when we got home. Excellent Kung Pao chicken! Very flavorful, and great balance of veggies and chicken. Egg Drop soup was a bit disappointing though. Would not order that again. I tried the Crab rangoons, and they were very tasty. i don't understand the rave reviews. Yes, the staff was friendly, but the dining room has the industrial ambience of a soon to be condemned insane asylum, and the food I was served was mediocre at best. The menu offered a choice of thawed frozen meats that were cooked and then flavored up with one type or another of bottled goopy sauce. It's no wonder the waitress was stymied when I asked her what the best dish in the house was! It was all crap, and perhaps she does not care for bland, overcooked and hacked together simulated some type of Asian food either. As I woefully picked through my meal, I struggled to find any actual fresh ingredients beyond a few razor thin slices of generic white mushroom in the "clear broth". As is often the case here in Eastern NC, many restaurants like to group everything Asian they can think of into a single Asian-Southern-redneck dining extravaganza. I was offered gyoza, hibachi, seaweed salad, general's chicken, egg foo young, miso soup, curry, crab rangoon, and yes -- an obligatory cellophane-wrapped fortune cookie after the meal. All that was missing was the all-too-common all-you-can-eat feeding trough for all of us to eat and share our germs from. I suppose some Walmart shoppers will consider the Sumo Bowl a good value, but those same folks think the same of Pizza Hut or McDonalds, and I would not share such an opinion with them. read more

We went for lunch and walked in about 11:40 and the place was empty so we had a choice of tables and were quickly brought our drink orders and then started with the appetizer "Beef Nigimaki" Which the waitress dubbed "Beef Negi". It was 6 grilled beef wrapped around green scallions and topped with teriyaki sauce.for $5.95). Excellent choice. Then for lunch we tried the Hibachi Shrimp($6.25) and the Teriyaki Shrimp ($6.50) Both came out steamin' hot and SO DELICIOUS! Both plates came with the perfectly grilled vegetables of onions,carrot and zuchinni and Mushrooms...the teriyaki shrimp had brocolli). Service was great , they checked on us several times.Not sure about this, but it looked like a mom and Pop shop with the daughter as the waitress and mom helping out in back and front.Dad looked like the chef.Was he a good one. What a nice place. My wife, son, and I were greeted by a very friendly waitress who led us to our table. We had 2 beef egg rolls- which were VERY VERY good and my wife had some "awesome" Miso Soup. We ordered the Hibachi Chicken and the Hibachi Shrimp. Both were absolutely delicious. For the price we paid (about $18.00 total bill), it was well worth every penny! A great little place that is quite inexpensive. I'd say a good place for a group of friends who are willing to share meals. I've gotten the egg rolls, habachi noodles with shrimp, and also miso soup. It was all delicious, and served at a good time. The appetizer came out, then after we had finished they gave us about 5 minutes for the main course. Perfectly timed. Also, the drinks were kept well filled and you never had to worry about calling a waitress over for refills. Lastly, the amount of food that they served is quite nice. It's enough for my younger sister (11) and I (17) to split the meal, and still have enough left over to bring home for another meal. read more

I appreciated the stoneware plate and metal fork as opposed to throw away cutlery and dinnerware used at some Hibachi places. We've never had a bad meal from Sumo Bowl, so it's definitely my family's "go to place."
