Best ribs I've had. Super moist and meaty.

Go, and get the ribs. I've never had meatier ribs, and they were moist and flavorful. We also tried the fried pickles, and they were tasty too. Lightly breaded, hot, and crunchy. Our waitress was quick and attentive without hovering, providing us with excellent service. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Smoky Tony's isn't a fancy place, but you can't get better ribs[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Quarter rack of ribs. I topped with the smoky heat bbq. Perfectly cooked to fall off the bone.

Phenomenal fresh food and friendly service at Smoky Tony's. Will be back to enjoy all of the flavor soon! Tony introduced himself to our table & brought us a sample of the fresh smoked sausage. Yum!

We stopped by on our way out from the beach. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. We enjoyed every bite. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We appreciated the clean environment as well.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It was nice to see Tony actually walking around the restaurant and engaging with the customers. Such a great little place and will definitely stop by if we're around the way again!!

    Great selection of sauces tableside!

Great place to get your 'cue fix in southeastern North Carolina - spectacular brisket featured a near-perfect smoke ring and succulent meat. The ribs were spot on, with a distinctive "pull" off the bone. I would call this competition-style barbecue any day! The collards were indeed "kickin" and had a spectacular smoky taste while the slaw was creamy, with a hint of tang. The best part is all the different sauces they offer at the table - from classic ENC vinegar to a sweet whisky and an awesome Alabama-style white sauce. Don't let the interior fool ya, these folks are throwing down some fantastic food - service was solid and attentive, but not hovering.

Everyone was so nice!!! The food was great and the service was on point. The burnt ends and ribs are a must order. The pulled pork was shocking how good it was. Ask for the tortilla soup and if they don't have it ask them why not. It was off the chart. So glad we made it.

Been craving some nice BBQ and tender meats and without a doubt they exceeded my expectations. One of the most interactive and friendly service by the staff and especially tony he was phenomenal. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Place was a great nice cozy vibe that matched perfect with the food.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] No doubt I will definitely be coming back!!

Great food, great service! The owner (Tony) came out and greeted us, he was terrific! Highly recommend!

I was at Smoky Tony's last night for trivia. Which was an absolute blast! Our waitress was definitely a 5 star server. She was attentive enough without being intrusive during the trivia event. Luckily my group was able to grab a booth which was so much more comfortable than the chairs. The booths had padding which is helpful when you're sitting for more than an hour. I'm sorry to say the food was subpar. I opted to get a bottled beer and nibble on the tables order of hush puppies. They were over cooked and very dry and tasteless. Then when dessert was offered, I chose the cheesecake. It was almost $12 and not house made (it was in separate clam packing). I will return, but may only go for trivia and not for the food. Sorry.

My SO and I dined at Surf City BBQ one weekday evening during our family vacation. We enjoyed an…read moreexcellent experience, from delicious food to outstanding customer service. Surf City is a Carolina BBQ joint but serves up other southern staples like fried fish and chicken. Unfortunately, I must share that due to hardships, the restaurant is closing on September 30, 2026. AMBIANCE Country vintage is the theme and it's quite homey. Dining at grandma's house. SERVICE Kristine or Kris was our servers name (hopefully I got the spelling right). She was incredible. When I say she was attentive and so down to earth, it truly made our experience wonderful. We felt so welcomed to come in and enjoy some good southern food.. FOOD I really wanted to order a seafood platter but unfortunately they were out of fried catfish and flounder so I pivoted to a different entree. - Complimentary hush puppy sticks with cool ranch: they were good. Subtly sweet, but the cool ranch balanced everything out. - Half rack of ribs: this was the entree I switched to. The pork ribs were huge, tender, and tasty. They fell right off the bone, and I really appreciated the firmness of the tendon while I cleaned my bones. I had two sides, yams and cole slaw. I enjoyed the yams more because they weren't overly sweet, and the chef really allowed the yams' natural flavors to shine. The cole slaw was tasty but nothing special. I prefer my slaw more chopped rather than big pieces. The vinegary Carolina BBQ sauce at the table was excellent. - Eggroll BBQ Pork: my SO ordered this special entree, and it was really good. Imagine a big, crispy eggroll filled with moist, tender shredded BBQ pork. It came with a really good dipping sauce, which was a mix of honey mustard and BBQ sauce. The two sides I chose were fried okra and Brunswick stew. Both were fresh and delicious. Since they're closing, the owners are selling decor and other items from the restaurant. I purchased a lovely replica of a pay phone from the late 1920s or early 1930s to take home. Additionally, the cashier was very friendly and helpful. If you've enjoyed the food here, please go support them a few more times before they close their doors. Or simply, browse and shop for some cute decor for your home.

4.5 Overall - A real beach-feel taco shack, less than a block from the ocean. Outdoor seating (no…read moreindoors) and weathered wood lends authenticity to the Surf City vibe, but then one also needs to contend with the birds and heat (minus the ocean breeze). We drove here with friends from Jacksonville (NC) and experienced the food and service and, afterwards said we'd definitely return here. Why? Tacos. We ordered four - Tuna, Shrimp, Chicken, and Veggie- all on a soft corn tortilla. Each one packed a mouthful of flavor combinations that were distinct and memorable. My blackened and seared tuna took a different turn with the bacon, yet it melded well with the cabbage and the spicy mayo. My favorite - the blackened and grilled Shrimp taco - included Asian slaw and sweet chili sauce that complimented the char. Our friends ordered the seafood nachos which frankly looked liked the shrimp and other seafood were overwhelming the chips! If I had been hungrier, I would have ordered this monster! Soft drinks (Coke products), adult beverages, and "Sweet Treats" are also available. The bathrooms are inside the surf shop. Paid parking is right next to the store. This used to be our favorite, and let me tell you why it no longer is... First, and worst, the customer service. They couldn't make any exchange for the spicy salsa that comes with the kids meal, so basically I'm paying $7 for a tortilla with melted cheese. Additionally, my kid was taking our plates up the steps and fell, getting salsa all over his arm. As he sat there picking up everything, two workers walked by him and ignored him. Didn't ask if he was okay or offer to help. I guess that's what happens when you hire kids that don't care about anything. They all seemed unhappy and I encountered 5 different people and zero smiles. Secondly, the food and prices. I get that everything has gone up in price, but don't go up in price and down in quality, skimping on things that used to be free and plentiful. I just don't want to pay more for less. Lastly, we caught management in a lie and that's just not okay. You gave my husband an excuse for something and me a totally different one. Don't make up stuff to force your ridiculous policies. Bottom line, the food is pretty good, we've been here more times than I can count, but next time remember that customer service goes a long way and you could have just made right an issue that cost you pennies instead of reading this review.
