    Lobster ravioli

Fantastic dinner in the small intimate setting ...seats only 32 , our hosts Ricky (chef) &Mela (waitress) both recent transplants from Italy could not have been nicer and more accommodating. This is a true Italian restaurant with good ( not oversized) portions of fresh ingredients - the lobster ravioli was cooked perfectly and the sauce light and flavorful , my wife's chicken piccata was the best she has ever had ... , the lasagna was healthy sized portion and our fellow guest loved it .... Don't forget to order the gelato imported from the owners home town ...

Atmosphere - Needs Improvement. First, it is important to note that Rick Meta Italia is located in the building that was home to a very popular Italian restaurant called Cafe Italia. There are many reviews listed on this page that that relate to the former restaurant. The renovations that were made to the interior included walling off the kitchen. The now has a much needed cleaning and has a feeling of newness. However, it is quite stark and bright. There is virtually no decoration on the walls. Service - Excellent. The chef and the server are the husband and wife team that are the owners of the restaurant. They go out of their way to make their customers feel welcomed and appreciated. In all regards to service, they hit top marks. Food - Good. I would consider this restaurant to be one that the entree selection will greatly determine your dining experience. For example, I ordered the Chicken Piccata and a side of pasta. The chicken tenderize and pounded and lightly breaded. The lemon sauce was ample and flavorful. All pasta is freshly made and if excellent. The protein portion was reasonable. The pasta sauce good, but could use a bit more seasoning for my taste. I will note that I was dining with 3 other people and they all agreed that the sauce would benefit from attention. Overall - This is a restaurant that has many things going for it (location, great service and freshly made pasta, clean feel). Some challenges faced are the things like limited space, a stark atmosphere and limited parking. In my humble opinion, the restaurant could become very successful if it were to position itself as an authentic, trattoria. The owners moved to the United States and they are learning English through assimilation, lending authenticity to a trattoria. Simple, inexpensive decorations and changes to the menu that mirror the experience of dining in a Tuscan hill top town would make the restaurant experience more authentic.

Always like to see a new business succeed which is especially hard for restaurants. Husband and wife team with authentic fresh Italian pasta. The food was good, there could be some improvement as far as making sure there is enough of an ingredient in the dish ordered. Service was good and the place pays a nice collection of Italian songs.

Ok. So I've been here three times since the new owners took over. I just had not been impressed the first few times but was trying to be forgiving since they were new. I have tried their Chicken Milano, Ravioli, Spaghetti and meatballs, Caesar Salad, and the Pasta Fagioli Soup. The Soup and Caesar Salad with chicken were the best on the menu. The portions were small on the entrees for their price. I was completely disappointed with the spaghetti. It was hard. It didn't seem cooked and the sauce was bitter. They offered a complimentary side dish of a vegetable medley with carrots and cauliflower but it tasted bland, like from a can. They offer plain slices of bread, cold, no butter. I have tried the pizza I did not like it at all. The crust was doughy and the sauce bitter. I asked for an unsweet tea and I received a soda and green tea concoction. Not sure what that was all about but when I told Mela I ordered unsweetened tea she brought me out a fresh glass of the same thing. It's not ok. I opted for plain water instead. Yet Sweet and Unsweet tea is listed on the menu. One plus is the place is freshly cleaned and painted for a much better atmosphere! Ricky and Mela are the sweetest, nicest couple. I was hoping for better. Unfortunately I will have to pass on this restaurant. I wish them all the best.

Unfortunately, after my most recent experience, I won't be returning. I stopped in around 3:00 p.m. and was happy to see it wasn't busy. I went to the deli counter, waited for someone to serve me, ordered my chicken salad, grabbed a soda and chips, and headed to the open register. As I walked up, the cashier called another customer over ahead of me. I waited while he spent several minutes deciding whether to pay cash or by card because of the 4% card fee. I continued standing there with my three items, to the point that I actually set them down and debated walking out. Then, instead of helping me, the cashier motioned for an entire family to come to the registereven though I had been standing there waiting before they arrived. After that, she waved over another customer, and I had to wait while a mother and her two teenagers decided which desserts they wanted. Again, I stood there patiently. When it was finally my turn, there was no greeting, no "thank you for waiting," nothing. The first thing I was asked was, "Do you have a pickup order?" I said no. She then motioned for my chicken salad container, saying she needed it. I placed it on the scale and set my other items on the counter. The cashier then asked, "Are you okay?" I simply shook my head because, honestly, I wasn't. Instead of recognizing why I was frustrated, she continued talking, making comments, and escalating the interaction rather than simply ringing me up. At that point, I asked, "Do you want to argue? Do you want me to go back and forth with you?" I then asked who the manager was. She pointed to a woman beside her, who identified herself as the owner. I asked if she could ring me up instead. Even then, the cashier continued making comments. It was only after she continued engaging me that my voice became louder in response. Rather than addressing the repeated comments from her employee or asking what had happened, the owner immediately said, "Do not raise your voice at my employee." That response was disappointing. There was no concern for the customer experience, no apology for repeatedly being skipped in line, and no attempt to resolve the situation. There was also no acknowledgment that the interaction had been escalated by the cashier's continued remarks before I ever raised my voice. The irony is that I have spent a significant amount of money catering from Frankie's Deli over the years because my customers love the food. Good food will bring people in once. Great customer service keeps them coming back. Sadly, this experience ended that relationship for me. There are plenty of places with great food, but respect and customer service matter just as much. One final thought: this is Florida not NY. Hospitality goes a long way. The aggressive, dismissive attitude I experienced isn't what I expect when supporting a local business. I won't be back.

They have over 300 artisanal, imported and domestic cheeses, I find something new every time I go! The ambiance is what makes it special to locals, it feels like stepping into a traditional Italian market and it's hard to find elsewhere in Tampa. Definitely a staple for St. Pete! The market is almost always busy, so go right when they open or later in the afternoon on weekdays or you'll be standing shoulder to shoulder and wait 15 to 30 minutes, but honestly that time is perfect for browsing everything! My go to orders are the Mortadella Pistachio and the Fig & Pig. They are $12 each, and yes a bit pricey but the freshness and quality make it worth it.

A fresh produce, meat, fish, sausage, pickled olives, section. You walk further down and Theres the grab and go food section. Then to the left you have wine and cheese. You go further in, and Theres a fancy cheese section. Unfortunately they don't give small amounts of cheeses and cut it for you. But you can buy some really good cheeses here. Then you go back to the very narrow hallway, and Theres a ton of coffee on the left. I just got into coffee and am a coffee snob. I noticed there was a "greasy" looking bean. Which just means it's well past its freshness. The price of bean actually isnt that bad. And they offer a lot of varieties. Anyway...We got two kinds, Guatemala and organic Mexico. I wanted to try it out before writing this review. The Guatemala one was light, faint. Which tells me the bean is stale. No longer fresh. The Mexico was a deeper flavor but also on its way out. I would recommend to management to better advertise the coffee bean so the product moves and stays fresh, or maybe move it to a different section where people can feel comfortable getting it. It gets so crowded in the hallway. I would leave the hallway was a grab and go area. Or, I would sell what you have at inventory and limit the options to the top sellers. You keep walking down and you have the coffee shop to the right, and a small bread stand to the left. Of course we got coffee. Theres a small area of seating to get coffee for there. Theres a big roaster to give the appearance that they roast their own coffee but I believe it's just for decoration. Fiancé got a cappuccino. It was okay. He normally doesn't get coffee with too much milk but the waitress said there was 3 shots of espresso in there. I would say it didn't taste like 3 shots. It taste like coffee with 90% milk. And it should be told to customers that a cappuccino there is more milk with coffee. I got the con panno. Which is espresso with whipped cream. I'm not sure if the whip cream they use is fresh, or if it's super sweetened, but my coffee was sweet. It was thick which I like but I didn't like whatever sweetener they used. But I'd probably order a macchiato if I ever came back so I could taste the coffee. On the other side of the coffee shop is the sandwiches and prepared food that you order. Sandwiches are HUGE. Fiancé had the #1 with all the fixings. It was nice but if you don't like soggy sandwiches, you can ask for no veggies. Which we would do next time. I had the 7, no sun-dried tomatoes and no veggies. It was so good. The mozzerella was very fresh! If you walk past that you have the dried cured meat, and down a hallway to the right you'll find dried pasta and fresh pasta. The fresh pasta looked so good. I wished we lived in the area so I could try. You head back the other way and pass the outdoor seating and Theres also a place for you to check out you grocery/sandwiches. Right next to that section you have the pantry area of canned fish, pickled things, olive oil. Then Theres the bread and pastry area. We only had time to see these and no time to see what other stores they had or walk around. But I'd definitely come back to check those out.
