The nitro stout on tap was enjoyed by a few in our party. The "chips" aka fries that came with our burgers were exceptional. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked the Impossible Burger which was larger than expected. My husband enjoyed the Fish and Chips which was also a generous sized plate. Fresh, flavorful, and honestly as enjoyable as some of the wonderful Caprese salads I've had in Italy. Next came the Greek Chicken Meatballs, fabulous! And then the Pisto, a delicious vegetable dish with zucchini, squash, eggplant and a rich tomato-based sauce. Every dish was beautifully balanced and full of flavor. And don't overlook the cocktails! The Espresso Martini was fabulous, followed by a wonderfully refreshing tequila and grapefruit cocktail. Both were excellent. What really brought the evening together, though, was the bartender. Warm, professional, knowledgeable and wonderfully conversational without ever being intrusive. Dining alone can sometimes feel like simply grabbing dinner, but he made sitting at the bar feel comfortable, relaxed and genuinely enjoyable. Excellent food, thoughtfully prepared vegetables and meats, terrific cocktails, and that intimate European small-plate atmosphere I love. I came in hoping for a good dinner and ended up having a wonderful evening. Saudade will absolutely be on my list the next time I'm in Williamsburg.

We're locals and have been here a number of times under the previous name, La Tienda. We loved the visual improvements. It's so much prettier now. The server did not tell us about the specials, ever. We only found out the specials when we were almost ready to leave and a server welcomed the table behind us by telling them about specials. There was an employee, maybe bussing tables? Carrying things back and forth throughout our time there, walking around in the tightest, faded black yoga pants and crop top which was really weird--could the owners not give her a logo shirt like everyone else? She looked like she had just come in from doing yard work or something LOL. The food was a mixed bag...The thin fried eggplant with honey (my usual favorite) was missing a sprinkle of salt...and the salt is what makes that dish sing, so that was a real bummer. The deep-fried halloumi cheese chunks were a fantastic, perfect bite when eaten with the chunky side veg it came with. That same veg combo was on a few different dishes, kind of a cop out. The charcuterie plate was very sparse for the cost!!...and not sure why there's a saucer of blueberry jam on there...it didn't really go with the cheese or the meat, didn't come with a spoon to dish it out, and didn't come with any crackers or bread to eat it on...are we supposed to just fork blueberries out of the shared dish of jam into our mouths? The three grapes on the platter were old and not even washed. The price for a few slices of cheese, a few slices of salami & ham, was very high. Guess they have to pay for those pretty new branded cutting boards somehow. The fried ham & cheese fritters were very greasy/incorrectly fried, and missing finishing salt. The chocolate cake was ridiculously dry..it felt apart when touched by a fork...they should be absolutely embarrassed to sell that cake. It's not hard to make a good cake, come on. The crab martini was interesting with the sweet crab combining with the bitter arugula, but I wouldn't order it again. The sangria was so watered down and missing flavor....it didn't taste fruity at all, just tasted like watered down wine. I know a lot of people have fond memories and feel this place is an institution in the area, but giving five star reviews for three star food and three star service is wild.

At one point we noticed every table was seated and thought the volume did get elevated at one point it was brought back down to a moderate level. For desert, I got the cheesecake with raspberry! It was really rich and delicious! The raspberry puree provided a nice tart taste to go alongside the sweetness! They even had a gentleman walking around playing music from the time period. I enjoyed a Rummer refreshing cocktail while hubby had an Apple Jack old Fashioned. The drinks average $15. They also have a fine assortment of wines. They brought a bread basket with super fresh bread and mini corn muffins. They also brought whipped butter, a Virginia ham spread and corn relish. All excellent! We saw peanut soup in several places and ordered it here. It was very different. Very peanutty and super filling. I ordered the crab croquettes which were flaky and delicious. The sauce had just a bit of zing and completed the flavor profile perfectly. Our server Lynette was such a sweet lady. I adored her and she even tied the giant napkins for us to prevent spills and mess. (It was super hot though and we took them off eventually) For dinner, hubby got the beef steak. It had a seasoned butter was cooked medium rare, exactly as hubby asked for. The mashed potatoes were creamy and delish. Also came with perfectly cooked stemmed carrots and string beans. We could hear the waiter behind us telling the other table "watch it's a hot skillet" ours wasn't even warm. The waitress had us use the bread butter and salt and pepper on the table to season it and the butter didn't even fully melt the butter. It was just not the experience we were bragging to people about. If you're going to spend $60 on a steak, this one's not it. It's a typical hotel breakfast...eggs, potatoes, make-your-own waffles, etc. They were out of sausage and bacon so the hostess let the cook know, and by the time we left 30 minutes later they still hadn't put it out. I got my coffee and couldn't find cream anywhere. I had to ask the hostess and she pointed me to the front of the restaurant/lobby, but then half-heartedly went into the back to get some for the actual restaurant area. The eggs were good. The waffles were good (as those malted waffles at hotels always are). Everything else was very typical hotel breakfast. Bottom line: I would absolutely not eat there if it's not included in your hotel charge.

Noone in the class was happy with meal. It was inedible for me and I walked across the street and ate at 7-11.... Day two was supposed to be roast beef with mac and cheese and some various other salad items. The beef was so touch you could not cut it with the knife they gave you. I even tried to eat it by ripping it with my teeth. No luck. 7-11 again. Third day was some italian options. They had noodles of a couple of different types and red sauce or alfredo. The alfredo was tasteless and lumpy. All this while letting them know my serious allergy to onions. Every day, they misinformed me of what was onion free. This was a rough week for my allergy. People really need to take it serious when people have allergy! The mac and cheese was okay. The bread was also good.
