My visit to Gabriel Archer was nothing short of exceptional. From the exceptional wines made by the ajoining winery to the delightful dishes at every course it was a fantastic experience. Denise was prompt at serving us, but I noticed that she gave the same spiel to the new couple who sat behind me as she did for us; a canned memorized script. Although the outdoors had Carolers from the speakers, the inside lacked holiday decor. I got the smoked salmon tacos, but there was an over abundance of the aoili so that each taco dripped profusely, spilling onto the placemat, though I aimed towards the center of the slate slab. I had to wipe my hands off, then pulled off my jacket and pulled up my sleeves fearing it would drip onto me. Hubby got the Reuben, but the ratio was off with far too much bread to meat. He also got the Parsnip soup, but he said it was not his fav. I had a taste and liked it. We then headed out to pick up our box of wines. read more

We went here for a birthday and it was super fun! The menu is full of great options and each of us loved our meals. Additionally, the server was very knowledgeable and gave us a lot of information on each item. After eating at Gabriel Archer we went in the wine tasting room and then sat outside. The service here was good and our server was friendly. We came expecting what we would order only to learn what was listed on their site wasn't correct- so just know the menu changes for the season. I did order the turkey and Brie sandwich. The garlic aioli on it was more mayo than garlic flavor, so that was disappointing, but otherwise it was good. I upgraded to the special soup which was a crab turnip soup or something. I was told it was very good and very popular, but honestly after a few bites I was done- it was way too bland. For dessert I got the special pumpkin praline (I think it was) cheesecake which was wonderful. read more

I feel bad giving places bad reviews, but honestly I feel like everyone should really save themself the drive out here. We were expecting a cute, nice dining experience, but we were really disappointed. I'd like to start by saying the waitress was nice. She listened to us, gave us recommendations, etc. She took our orders and two people in our party got burgers, asking for certain toppings/condiments to be taken off. I fully understand that mistakes happen. But one burger came out with cheese when it was asked for on the side (lactose issue) & the other with mayo when asked for it off (preference issue). They asked if we wanted it remade and it would be 15 minutes. We had already been waiting for our food for 45 mins to an hour. There was also only like 2 other parties in the restaurant at this time. A manager of some kind came out and apologized for the inconvenience. I understand restaurants can't do much in this situation, but when a very very old woman's food is inedible for her, i would've thought an offer to take it off the bill would've been made. As for the other meals, the menu & waitress did not specify the steak sandwich is served at rare. My boyfriend's bread was soaked in blood. Like it wasn't even rare - it was raw. I just feel like truly the customer service is awful, the food was awful, and it really is not worth the drive. Maybe if you're a huge wine connoisseur, this place would be worth it. Very nice place in a pastoral setting looking out over the growing grapes. As part of a vineyard, it offers a nice variety of options without being too fancy. It fits in well with the historic Williamsburg setting by being more of a traditional decor. Options were varied without being too over the top. Simple sandwiches and burgers, but with enough of a chef's touch to keep them interesting. Had a great experience visiting for the first time this restaurant. Had been prior to the winery for a quick stop to grab a bottle of wine on the go but decided to check this long holiday weekend for brunch. Arrived with no reservation and were seated quickly, they wanted to sit us in a table we didn't like because we had a stroller however they accommodated our request to sit in another section of the restaurant. Food and drinks were good, service was swift, the room has a bit of an echo situation where it can get a bit loud if multiple people are talking at once. The runner that brought our food apologized for not carrying the plate properly since my eggs tilted from the plate, which I declined to have them remake my plate. read more

The service and ambiance of Gabriel Archer Tavern is amazing. You're seated in a room with a view of the vineyards and the staff are knowledgeable and attentive. I enjoyed the cranberry mash cocktail, which used whiskey from Copperfox, a local distillery. The drink was smooth and a bit similar to a whiskey sour, just exchanging lemon juice or cranberry juice and cranberry syrup. Refreshingly tart. The shrimp tacos were good, but left a little to be desired. They were just basic-tasting. I think adding some kind of pepper to them (maybe jalapeño) as well as some lime would brighten them up. The rest of the menu looked so good, and I look forward to coming back and trying more. read more

Such a quaint lunch spot in Williamsburg! I definitely recommend sitting in the back patio room, rather than the front entrance. The menu consists of typical lunch items: sandwiches, salads, soup, etc, but what makes it special is that a lot of the ingredients are locally sourced. I ordered the Tavern Burger, and although slightly over cooked, was delicious! I was happy to see a salad as the standard side, rather than having an upcharge. However, chips are an upcharge. Ate here today for lunch. Ordered the burger and wife ordered the quiche. Both were very good. Had a couple local beers that were also good. Our server was very friendly and engaging. The only drawback is the volume of the dining room. It wasn't at capacity but very loud. It doesn't help that there are no soft surfaces to be found. Floor is brick and all other surfaces wood. Just be aware that the noise level is higher than normal. Other than that, I recommend! read more

Returned here seven years after having our wedding reception at the Winery. Place has not changed at all - still a very nice looking, comfortable place to eat surrounded by natural beauty. We did not have a reservation, but the hostess was able to find us an outdoor table. She also brought paper and crayons for our daughter. We started with the steamed mussels. They were very good. I got the soup of the day - goulash - which was good, but a little too mild for my personal taste. My wife got the Fall Risotto and absolutely loved it. Regarding alcohol, my wife got the White Wine flight while I got the Spiced Wine. Both very nice. read more

I loved dining here when I came to visit the winery! Our waitress was so attentive and friendly, she gave personal anecdotes on the wine which I loved. The food was amazing, from the plating to the taste, it was all incredible and came out so quickly. And for coming on a Saturday night, I was pleasantly surprised with how the outdoor seating didn't feel crowded or too loud at all. The string lights were so cute and it truly felt like an intimate dinner! The wine was also so affordable and I have never had a bad bottle there. Highly recommend! read more

I'm not sure why but I was expecting a bit more from Gabriel Archer Tavern. I felt that overall it was pretty average in all areas, thus the three star review. The restaurant is small and honestly the decor is pretty dull and has a boring atmosphere. The service was fine but lackluster. The menu small and the items of average taste and quality. Would probably skip this and get food elsewhere next time. It is a nice option however, if you need or want to eat while having drinks or doing a tasting at the winery. read more

My mom is in love with all things colonial and we've been to Williamsburg a few times now. So, naturally, this Gabriel Archer Tavern has been on the radar for a while as a place to try. It's on the Williamsburg Winery property and is directly across the street from the Wine Tasting Room. It's cute inside and the decor is like the old restaurants in colonial Williamsburg. We checked into our room at Wedmore Place and walked over to the winery and decided to have lunch before our wine tasting. My fiancee ordered only the charcuterie board for his meal and I had the Essex Hundred salad. We tried to be light for lunch planning to eat a big, romantic dinner for date night later in town. His charcuterie board was around $20 and was pretty delicious. I included a photo. He was happy with it and it came with some delicious fresh toast bites. My salad was also good - but was missing the advertised feta cheese (no cheese on salad at all). Overall, meal was decent, but somewhat pricey, probably due to remote location. Would not dine here again when there are so many other options 10 minutes drive away in town. read more

First I made this reservation for our 45th anniversary . So you see it's a special day for my husband and I.. Our reservation was for 2:30 Sept 22 (today) we were 5 minutes late.. The hostess was very friendly sat us over looking the vineyard. Waitress comes and we ordered our drinks and an appetizer.. My husband ordered a flight of red wine now comes our beverages she brought him white wine we immediately said no white wine he ordered red waitress states no I know he ordered white at that point I said he ordered red he does not drink white.. waitress showed she hasn't happy . We got our appetizer then me ordered our main course.. So we ate the meatball appetizer it was good.. Now comes the main course we both got the crab cake sandwich he had chips with his I went with the salad. Let me get to the meat of the problem. Waitress kept rushing us tried taking my husband's plate and he wasn't finished.. I ask for a dessert menu and waitress states it was to late to order a dessert it was 3:30 and the kitchen stops making anything by 3:30.. Why were we not told . . She says she'll check and comes back with the check sits it down and walks away .. This waitress needs to find a new job. This was not a cheap it was $100 for lunch.. Very disappointed with the waitress.. Food was good but you know how that goes half your meal experience is the service . Because of this I could not recommend this restaurant.. read more

Why does this place only have 3.5 stars? This restaurant was absolutely delicious! We ordered the charcuterie board, quiche with salad, shrimp and grits, steamed mussels, and a pumpkin pie for dessert. Our waitress was very friendly and service was quick. The charcuterie board came with several different meats, cheeses, bread, jams, mustard, pickles, and olives! The steamed mussels was everyone's favorite. It was cooked in some butter wine sauce with onions. The quiche was soft and flavorful with a tangy dressing on the salad. The shrimp and grits were also very flavorful. I loved the seasonal pumpkin dessert which was not too sweet, soft, and balanced with the crunchy toppings. We also got the sweet wine flight and took pictures outside the restaurant afterwards. I came to Gabriel Archer Tavern for lunch after wine tasting at the Williamsburg Winery. I ordered the roast beef and gouda sandwich, which I thought was tasty but not necessarily worth $19. The way they've decorated inside is cute and quaint, and matches the vibe of the rest of the winery. Our food came pretty quickly and the server was nice. Peaceful and serene ambience throughout each establishment on this entire property as a whole! I made reservations here for my man and I to celebrate our 2 yr anniversary. I started to cancel due to ongoing rain, but I called and the Hostess Mrs. Mary encouraged us to come on in! We drove an hour out and let me say it was well worth it. They brought us a complimentary glass of champagne to start out with!!! Nice, right? We chose the Swedish meatballs as one of our appetizers and YASSSSSSSSSSS MAAMMMM! The best hands down! My love chose the "soup of the day" which was kale, onion and sausage based. He slurped it all down, so that must mean it was delicious. I went with the Wessex Hundred Spinach Salad! The poppyseed vinaigrette didn't really stand out to me so I asked to try the cranberry one instead. Delicious, once again. We tried Street Tacos and the Roast Beef & Gouda Sandwich as our entrees. The shrimp tacos passed, but I wasn't a fan of the sandwich. The French baguette(bread) it was served on was a bit too hard to even enjoy the sandwich, so I went with a side crab cake and it was OUT OF THIS WORLD! We were greeted by a very sweet hostess who obliged our request to sit inside but by the windows. The view was beautiful. There were Gerber daisies on every table which was nice. Our waitress, Jemima, was super nice and pleasant. We started with the beer special. It was tasty and a good suggestion. We ordered the roast beef and Gouda sandwich with the soup of the day (cream of asparagus). The pickled red pinions were very good and made the sandwich sing! The soup was really delicious and the micro greens really complimented the soup. We also ordered the Seven Hills Farm burger with a side salad with apple poppyseed dressing. Wow is all i can say about the burger. It was thick, juicy, well seasoned, and had a great grilled flavor. It was cooked perfectly. We finished our meal with the chocolate crème brûlée. One negative is that the sugar on top could have been a little more brûléed. The crowning glory was the white chocolate graham cracker pieces on top - so buttery! read more

Appetizers of mussels and charcuterie had great flavors and would order again. Dinner of crab cakes with a warm cheesy grit pancake was simply amazing. We chose this location because we enjoyed meals here during previous Williamsburg visits. The tavern is located on the grounds of the Williamsburg Winery. So, of course, we had glasses of wine, Chardonnay and Rose, with our meals. We had the Turkish pea soup, the corn and cucumber salad, and the turkey and brie sandwich. The pea soup was different and tasted great. We also enjoyed the salad and sandwich. Our server, Caroline, was pleasant, helpful, and attentive. We enjoyed our meal. Went here recently for a graduation dinner with the family. The Inn is quaint, located in a renovated barn on the property with a nice outdoor patio out front, and a back room that overlooks the vinyards. It wasn't nearly as fancy as we expected given the prices and the location. Flies are a problem both inside and outside given the nature of the location. Casual attire was fine. Our meals were very good, especially the crab cakes. The wine selection is obviously plentiful and we enjoyed the wines we tried. They also provided a free glass of Prosecco to our graduate.. Portion sizes weren't overly large. Service was kind of mixed, friendly but not overly so. For what we paid I was a bit underwhelmed. It was a solid dining experience, but not one that was particularly memorable. read more

Slightly disappointed, although that could be rather an understatement. We arrived 15 minutes before the kitchen was closing and were greeted VERY rudely, taken to our table in a hurry, where we were sat down and told again "we're closing very soon so you have to be quick." This server proceeded to slam plates and glasses and cleaning items around us - we were not the only people in the dining room, this is not the service I expected after such a great tour in the winery. In order to not trouble the kitchen as we felt so bad arriving so late to grab a bite to eat, we ordered salads and water to drink. The second server was a delight and she told us we could order something else as she could see how we had been treated. Regardless, we stuck to our order. The salads came out in minutes. We were told not to rush eating, however, we wolfed down our salads as we were so embarrassed by how the first server spoke to us - we got out of there in no time. The salad was a fair size, and to add protein to it (fish or poultry etc) costed extra; the chicken was rather small in size. The restaurant had wonderful views of the vineyards, a very chic farmhouse style dining room, a menu with decent variety and of course, wine from the winery. I would like to eat here again in future as I most definitely will revisit the winery, but I will be sure not to come on a Sunday and arrive late and be guilt tripped by the staff member who is supposedly meant to welcome you at the door. There's a polite way to say we are closing the kitchen soon, but sadly on this visit, we felt more of a burden than customers. This first impression ruined the entire experience, therefore 2.5 stars - rounded down. Disappointed. read more
