Illy Caffe was wonderful for grabbing a coffee before strolling around the square for some shopping! Leo conveniently located near Willam and Mary campus. Service was friendly and drinks were prepared quickly despite a growing line. I loved the unique artwork and displays, plus an entrance to the shop next door. I was extremely excited to try an affogato and it did not disappoint! I wish you could choose your gelato flavor, but the vanilla was amazing so no real complaints. One of the many coffee options in Merchant Square, silly had a variety of hot and cold options for you to choose from. While they can get busy, they can get through the line pretty quickly. Both the indoor and outdoor seating are also kept very clean. I got a caramel cream tempesto, which is basically a frappe. It was filled past the top when I got it, which was great because I was sticking around, but if I wanted a lid, I'd probably make a mess. It also turned to just ice when I had about a quarter remaining, which was a bit of a bummer. read more

Medium latte and croissant were $13, which is pricey for the area, perhaps not DoG street. Service was fast. No particular ambiance. I've never been to an Illy caffe before but was happy to find one in the heart of colonial Williamsburg merchant square It's bright, clean, serves amazing coffee, gelato, pastries, and COCKTAILS. Did I mention that you can enjoy an aperol spritz or espresso martini while the rest of your group eats their gelato or brownies? And it's fairly reasonable for a tourist area- $10 for the cocktails and $5 for an iced mocha. Service was fast and friendly. Loved everything about this place. For one that HVAC system hits different. It was 90 degrees outside and had to be 68 in the restaurant. It was such a relief from the weather. My iced latte was amazing, I love that when you eat inside they give you real glass. The sweets were amazing. Wish we had one near us in south NJ. read more

Let me just say this place has a lot of great options to choose from. Unfortunately, I could not sample them all. I took the suggestion from one of the workers and chose the raspberry tart and I got an iced vanilla latte. Iced coffee is not normal go to. I've only had one other iced coffee that was so good that when it was finished I immediately wanted another one. This is one of those. Unfortunately I didn't have time for another. I would have to say; this place was your typical cafe. I was not impressed with the customer service. I asked for my croissant warmed up, and they gave it to me cold. I nicely asked them to warm it up and one of the young workers said "I saw him put it in the oven"..I just starred.. and politely asked again for it to be warmed. Once he actually warmed it, that's when it was warm!! Quite the difference. When he handed it to me; I knew it hadn't been put in the oven.... The croissant tasted good! The peach cupcake was delicious. The baker, she came out and spoke to me and was very nice! The atmosphere was cute and connected to a gift store, which was nice to be able to slide in there after shopping, but I would def recommend the staff being more kind and owning up to their mistakes. read more

This place must be a locals favorite because the line was long and the store was busy! The menu and pastries options were plenty. There's even cocktail espresso drinks. I ordered a decaf iced lavender cafe latte. The coffee wasn't as strong as I'm use to, but nonetheless pretty good. Not sure if their syrups are homemade. There were also milk alternatives like oat and almond. The pastries consists of donuts, bread, croissants and etc. They all look yummy! But didn't try it this go around. I will the next time though. This Illy is in a great location, but they really need to raise their standards on cleanliness. I went in today (26NOV24) right after opening, was kind of shocked. The gelato area was grody with half-melted gelato and spills everywhere, and the baked good area had all manner of crumbs and debris in it; and all right in front of the customers. We chose Illy because Aromas closes pretty early on a Saturday so we easily walked the next block over for our caffeine fix. There was a small line but it moved quickly and gave me time to browse the wares in their glass case. I was surprised to find some delicious sandwiches and cupcakes and baked goods. I went with a cortado at the suggestions of the barista and my fiancee went with his usual, an iced low-fat vanilla latte. His was amazing - as was mine. I like the inside and the decor, the bathrooms were clean and well-kept and it is adjoined to a shopping garden store selling Williamsburg Spa items. Solid experience. I love this cafe! It can be very crowded, especially during times of high tourists season for the Williamsburg area. There is inside and outside seating available. I enjoyed a spinach and feta pastry along with a scrumptious cinnamon streusel scone. They do offer water cups, which came in handy for my kiddos. The staff was great. Illy's seem hard to come by, so I wanted to give it a try on a recent visit to Williamsburg. I tried a cortado, which was fine (never had had one before). It was small and the price was steep. Extraordinary Cupcakes and Blue Talon Bistro owners joined forces to bring this wonderful dessert-only evening restaurant, also offering other foods on the menu. Such a great location with delicious pastries and superior tasting Italian coffee. Inside, the coffee cup chandelier dangling from the ceiling is a very grandiose welcome, and the selection of Italian gelato also beckons a glance. It was cold in there - thank god. I got an iced coffee and two chocolate chip cookies. The iced coffee was fine. A little bitter than I prefer. The chocolate chip cookies were below average - like stale knockoff Chips Ahoy. Service was fine but the barista who gave me my coffee was not super pleasant. Cold location - huge plus. I stopped in for a raspberry sorbet and it was pretty good. The place was pretty full and there wasn't anywhere to sit except for a table with dirty dishes on it. The staff weren't rude or anything, but they weren't pleasant like pretty much everywhere else I've been while vacationing this week.
