Man, Rico's used to be my FAV. My boyfriend LOVES acai bowls and he always goes to Spoons. We happened to be in the area and decided to check them out. I was excited because I've always had great bowls from them in the past and I was glad my bf was finally getting to try them out. It seems their prices have gone up quite a bit. I know that's just where we are in life but for 2 medium bowls I paid $35. It was originally $38, but I think the cashier typed something in wrong and it came down to $35. That is outrageous for 2 tiny bowls. I know its fresh fruit and acai, but that really hurt to spend on such little food. It also took a while for them to prepare the orders, which is no big deal really. But for what we got, it just wasn't worth all the hassle. Aside from the price, the acai was essentially still frozen and very cold so we had to wait for it to melt some just to try to enjoy eating it. Rico's reigns superior to any other açaí place in Charlotte. Absolute top tier quality with fruit. I no longer live here but every time I'm in Charlotte, I make sure to stop by. I see some reviews on saying it's too pricey. However, I've tried almost every açaí place in Charlotte and this is the only one I will visit. It can be cold, dead of winter and they STILL somehow how amazing fresh fruit. I do not recommend having açai bowls here. I want to support small businesses, but the owner needs to think about the health of their customers and also serve a quality product. The owner needs to visit California and see how such a bowl should be prepared. It should be creamy. Not taste like shaved ice! You can't charge the same price as a bowl in California but serve something worse than home made. Also I watched in horror as the worker took out frozen plastic packs of açai and started cutting up the pack with a sharp knife - all the microplastics from the cut up plastic pack being mixed in with the açai and then blending it all in together!!! How awful!! The public health department needs to look into this!! read more

Okay okay I'll admit it. I didn't really get the açaí hype. I'm not a fan of yogurt & somehow just always thought of them as the same. Thankfully one day curiosity got the best of me & I decided to visit Rico's on Pecan ave on a whim. I love Villani's in the same parking lot & now have even more reason to visit. It's easy to always find a place to park & walk right up to the window to order. If it's not busy still walk up to the ordering window and you won't have a problem. It is a little pricey as some others have mentioned, however if you sign up for the rewards program they're often offering specials. Many times this can even be found on their online ordering. The açaí & fresh fruit has always been fresh & tasty. And secretly I love how healthy this treat feels even once I add a dollop of Nutella. PS the iced coffee in the photo is not from Rico's but the bakery next door which is also a must visit. read more

4 stars instead of 5 because most açaí places I have been to have a toppings bar you can choose from to customize your bowls. This place does not, so you don't actually have a visual of all the possibilities. It's also expensive!! My medium size bowl came out to $12!! I ordered the rainbow bowl. Rico's was my first açaí in NC since moving to Cali. I've been a few times, as it was a rec from a family member who had come a couple of times. I love that it's more of a food truck feel. There are several picnic tables spread out around the area, and some gravel parking. It gives a speakeasy feel as you can't really see it from the road, especially if you're not sure what you're looking for. The building is behind another restaurant, so keep your eyes peeled for a white building with a cute fruit mural. Staff are patient and can provide some solid recs if you're not sure what to get. The menu is quite extensive. I love the rainbow bowl because it has all sorts of fruits and it's not only pretty to look at, but it also tastes good. I would say be aware of the limited parking, you can find street parking across the street, and if it's hot just be aware seating is outside. My first visit the açaí was smooth and so refreshing on a hot day, the last time I went I think the açaí was frozen so it wasn't as smooth. The açaí felt like little chunks of ice instead of that smooth smoothie texture. But the fruit tasted delicious and fresh! Highly recommend a visit, especially because it's around the corner from a pretty walkable neighborhood. read more

I love Rico's so much so that it's always a required stop when I come home. When I lived in Charlotte permanently, I came to Rico's every weekday for breakfast and ordered the rainbow bowl (no granola add coconut and honey). It's literally a mouthful of freshness to kick off your day. I've tried other Acai bowls in the area but none compare to Rico's. Fresh fruit! The rainbow bowl has a good combination of crunchiness with the granola, sweetness with the fruit, and refreshing with the cold açaí. I liked it a lot more than I thought I would. I had no blueberries on it and they didn't say they was out and it was too many bad strawberries the fruit bowls are not good today and the açai taste water down. So I tried Rico's Açaí at the 7th Street Public Market. I've never had an açaí bowl and always thought it was "too trendy" or "silly." I just didn't understand how that could taste good. Well, I was wrong and now I need to find a place like this near me. I was pleasantly surprised at how tasty this was. I got the protein bowl which was full of granola and peanut/almond butter...even some Nutella thrown in there. There was also hemp seeds and their surprisingly delicious Acai base which was not overly fruity or strong, which I thought it would be. It was delightful. All fresh sweet juicy fruit - açaí on the bottom topped with pineapple strawberry blueberry kiwi and banana topped with toasted coconut . It was delicious and filling but you didn't feel stuffed. The small is plenty and you will prob still have some for later. They have some cute picnic tables outside since there is no dine in option here. I hear they have a truck also but this location is their brick and mortar location. I love this place. The concept is fast and efficient. I always recommend the rainbow bowl as it has just about every fruit you could love while also being top quality fruits. I've lived pretty close to Rico's since it's been there on Pecan but just now stopped there to get breakfast to go today. I have been working from home for so long now that I didn't think about going out but had to go nearby today so the bowls finally happened. They have a window with a menu with made to order bowls offered, sizes (3 of them) and prices. I opted for the mini Butter Bro which was 9.00 and quite large, imo. It had Acai, granola, banana and lots of it, peanut and almond butter with some Nutella and hemp seeds on top. The Berry, mini also 9.00, is also a refreshing option; Acai, granola, banana and your blueberry, blackberry and raspberry trinity. This was perfect after a week of Thanksgiving foods. read more

First you start with the fresh fruits covering this bowl, you then go into the creamy peanut butter. You got a little deeper and you touch the açaí mix. It also has a crunch to it, but it's a mix of icy crunch and the frozen soft berries in it. With it ending with the crunchy and tasty granola at the bottom. Once you scoop every layer of this beautiful bowl and lay it on your tastebuds you get a hint of the peanut butter, along with the semi sweet of the açaí , with the tartness of the fruits.... and that little crunch of the granola. Acai bowls are my new "thing" for the summer since I am reducing my dairy intake. Here's what I love about Rico's...they are friendly, made to order, always fresh and clearly determined to grow their business. I can respect any business that does business out of the food truck while on the grounds of the future brick and mortar location. That's determination! The rainbow bowl is refreshing! Made from real fruit, it is a beautiful combination of your favorite fruits...strawberries, pineapple, blueberries, raspberries, kiwi and bananas (they were out on my visit). The frozen Acai purée makes for the perfect cool summer treat. The next time I think I will try it with almond butter instead of granola. The granola takes away from the Acai. It appears to be a good way for a business to cut cost. Granola mixed with Acai purée makes for less purée. For $10 a bowl...I can do without the granola. The açaí itself is great. I've worked at multiple açaí bowl/ smoothie places and I'd say this is the best base I've had. But what goes wrong is they don't listen, plus they give you literally no açaí. The point of an açaí bowl is to eat açaí. If I wanted a bowl of fruit I'd order that. The first time I went to the shop and ordered and the girl just stared at me while I ordered then asked me to repeat the whole thing again as she actually then got up to put my order in. She didn't listen because they put a whole banana on there. This time I ordered the same bowl with JUST strawberry as my fruit and got this. Granola on bottom to take up space and a whole MOUND of fruit. They're cheap with the açaí and it's honestly a waste of fruit because it all went in the trash. What if I was allergic to the banana? Rico's from the food truck is my #1 location of choice!! It sounds silly to say one location is better then the others but really it is. I've been coming to Rico's for a while not and never wait longer then 5 minutes for bowl to be fresh and full! I tried the new location in Elizabeth a few weeks ago and waited 30 minutes for my bowl. Went back to the food truck 2 weeks later and waiting 3 minutes! They are so quick! Either way the bowls are truly the best in Charlotte, I've tried many other places and this places makes me come back. There is so much fruit and portion sizes are very generous. They easily have the best! They also have good prices for what you receive. My personal favorite bowl is the rainbow bowl and for 75 cents more I choose to add peanut butter! I first learned about Rico's Acai at a Yelp event probably over a year ago. They really did us well at the event. I thought for sure they might be kicking it up a notch to try and build a following. I was wrong. That quality has held through to now. This little acai trailer located conveniently just a step out of Plaza Midwood is perfect. Plenty of space and secluded perfectly from the jam and jive right there on the other side of the bridge. You can step away from booze and fried food for a rejuvenating bowl o' goodness. I love the rainbow bowl - rows of strawberry, mango, pineapple, kiwi and blueberry lie across a pile of sliced bananas, frozen acai and granola. I've yet to find a sweet treat SO delicious that doesn't make me feel like a worthless pile o' crap after consuming it. This stuff is amazing! They don't seem to get much attention here though. It's a shame considering how great they are. But I imagine most folks can't bring themselves to pay $10 for a small bowl of this. (I think acai is actually pretty expensive stuff by itself, never mind all the fresh fruit.) Even for me it sort of falls into the luxurious indulgence category. Omgahhh they have officially changed my views on açaí bowls. I got the rainbow bowl and it was just so amazing. All the fruit was fresh. I added Nutella to my bowl and it added an extra wow factor. The Nutella got hard but it reminded me of chocolate so tasty. I forgot to take picture because i literally dived right into eating i was so hungry. I love Rico's Acai and the fact that it is closer to where I live than the 7th street location really makes it easier to satisfy my weekly cravings :) The bowls are made to order with fresh fruit and toppings with the frozen Acai & granola as the base. Due to the fact that they are made to order, the wait times can be longer as they usually have 1-2 employees working at a time.
