Ok so let me start by saying , If you're looking for an authentic Mexican food restaurant this one is it . I am Mexican myself so I know what's actually authentic and this place is the go to . They have great tacos & the best sauce to go with that which are already placed on the table once you get there . I honestly think all of their food is good . If you want something delicious & not too heavy , order a huarache pronounced ( WA - RA- CHE) topped with your choice of any meat, it's basically a handmade tortilla filled with beans and on top is sour cream cheese and meat. Very good ! Quesadillas Tortas and burritos are usually ordered a lot & they taste great too! If you want a Mexican drink , order their agua de Jamaica (HA- MY- KA) or horchata. They both taste very good! If not , they have Mexican soda and regular soda as well! Dessert options are very small so I never really order desserts , there's other place nearby where you could have better dessert . being in this restaurant I get a very homey vibe even tho it's small it's still comfortable enough to eat in & not to mention there's tables outside too ! The only reason I have this place a 4 star and not 5 is because sometimes it takes so long to get your food .sometimes,not all the time .... also in the summer it's very hot in there , they should get an ac that really works. Forgot to mention , the waiters aren't super friendly but aren't rude either . They're just doing what they have to do . Lupita is a little bit more friendly and someone you can joke with. Came here twice, once for take out and another time for dine in, the food took forever to come both times!! This place has a reputation for extremely slow pace and now I have experienced it. Yes it was cheap and "some" of the items were good but I am not sure if it was good due to the fact we waited so long for the food ... The service was okay, can't really say much cause they don't do much, like they don't even bother giving you water cause they want you to purchase bottled water... sooooo yeah that's my experience here, would I recommend it to my friends ? Quite possibly one of the best authentic Mexican joints in the greater new york area. It was recommended by a friend during a visit to sunset park. On a side note, it is refreshing and comforting to see a neighborhood in Brooklyn or in new york city for that matter, that is NOT gentrified. I'm happy to see a safe neighborhood of people from various parts of Latin America or wherever co-existing happily, as it reminds me of the way new york city was originally. The food by itself as well as within this community is a perfect experience. The tortillas are floured to perfection, and the portions are well priced and healthy. add a touch of lime to any dish, and it is, in essence, the cherry atop the cake. The selection of sodas are of back-home grade, as YES, they have Jarritos. The service is a bit slow, but as most great things are worth the wait, this is in fact, well worth the wait. Caveat - I'm a vegetarian. But I love this joint. Admittedly, I ask them in Spanish to make me special tacos with extra veggies, and they look at me funny, but I'm used to that. No one in countries that WANT to eat meat understand why anyone would bother being a vegetarian if they can afford meat. Anyway, it's got authentic lowbrow working man's fare, and it tastes like what you would get at a taco stand in some parts of Mexico. Hello. My name is J. And I'm a tortaholic. I'm pretty sure that on the 8th day God made a torta. Tortas are simply the best. And Ricos makes the best tortas I can find within these here 5 burroughs, Sunset Park and outside Mexico, in my opinion. All the many layers of "fixins" are present, the bread is spot-on and the meat is seasoned perfectly. This establishment has my complete trust in delivering an authentic, delicious and satisfying experience when it comes to this brand of cuisine. And the environment is a blast as well: often cramped, but lively and laid-back. If you go in acting the tourist, you're putting yourself at odds with the place as Ricos delivers Mexican restaurant culture to the max (read: you need to ask for the check and don't expect a salad fork, idiot). It makes me content in ways no other restaurant possibly can. Also, this place aces much more than tortas, any wild stab I've taken off the menu has delivered delicious results. Hell, I would eat a Spicy Hobo-Dick Torta paired with Bed Bug Huaraches if it came out of Rico's kitchen. It's just that good. read more

I wish I could give this place 4.5 stars because the only thing that deters me from it is a lack of attractive ambiance. Although the outside booth is nice. I eat mostly vegetarian and they make a tasty taquito with beans, rice, sour cream, avocado, salsa, cheese, lettuce and tomato. My boyfriend enjoyed a grilled chicken and a beef and trimmed mix taquito. The regular and chorizo nachos are both yummy. The prices are fantastico! Ate here with two friends recently and for 4 taqitos and a huge serving of regular nachos it was a grand total of $15. Considering that around 50% of a good quality taco comes from the sauce, these ones are good. Tortas can improve. Tamarindo fresh water tastes like any other in Mexico. My drink too had no ice so it was room temperature on a hot humid day. They should hire more waitresses so they can step up their service because it's a shame for a place that has great food. The boyfriend took me to this hidden side street spot and it's so delicious! Definitely the best mexican food I've had so far.. I haven't posted in a while but it's so good, I just had to. I love the tostadas and the sandwiches.. tried different ones the two times I've been and both times were amazing (I've had the marinated pork and fried pork tostadas and breaded chicken and breaded steak sandwiches and plan to keep going down the list every time I come again) . We always split their chocomilk shake too :) The only downside is the long wait we've had to endure each time (about 30 min) but so worth it. I came back recently and it just wasn't as good as I remember. OR maybe the last time I came here, I was starving! Same hole in the wall, but is it just me or has the brightness faded? Ordered a bunch of tacos, but wasn't too impressed. Carnitas, al pastor, tripa and chorizo. Eh, just ok. The textures were all a little off, too dry or oily. I ended up ordering the special tacos, but honestly don't know what set them apart from the larger tacos, not really worth it. The food is delicious and all but the service here is bad. I walked into the restaurant for lunch and I was greeted by the waitress whom she was taking orders back and fourth. I was planning to eat in the restaurant so she took my order and I was waiting patiently. Nothing much as I was waiting and I see this customer complaint about how long her food was going to take so I thought she must've made a big order but it turns out she's been waiting for 30 minutes for her order that wasn't even big. Another guy was there waiting patiently until his body language started to show that he was starting to become impatient. I kept on waiting for my food and so far it's been 20 minutes so I decided to wait a bit more because around this time the food should be ready. Apparently I was wrong, thus I waited for another 20 minutes and the food wasn't ready which I started to feel hunger. I waited 10 minutes more and the food was ready and I was able to eat. The people who are working in the kitchen need to keep on the pace and perform better at their job because they loose business if they aren't confident enough to work in the kitchen. At the end of the day, this restaurant needs to establish better management and composure to the environment for everyone to enjoy. read more
