I do not usually take the time to write reviews, but in this case I felt it was absolutely warranted. I contacted the shop after my 2021 Turbo Levo, with only 500 miles on it, suffered a motor failure. From the start, [[HIGHLIGHT]]Michael was extremely helpful. He took the time to walk through the error codes with me over the phone to make sure the diagnosis was accurate, and once we confirmed the issue, he got me in the very same day.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Although the bike was out of warranty, Michael and Specialized recognized that a motor failure at such low mileage was premature. They stepped up and offered a goodwill credit to help offset the cost of a full motor replacement. That gesture meant a lot and says a great deal about both the shop and the brand. It showed me that Specialized stands behind its products and that this shop stands behind its customers. Michael took excellent care of both the bike and the entire repair process. I just finished a shakedown ride through Tecolote Canyon, including the climb back out, and the bike felt absolutely brand new. I live in San Diego, and the drive to Carlsbad is not exactly convenient, especially with traffic, but after this experience I can say without hesitation that I will continue making the trip. My mother has been a loyal Specialized customer for years, and the recent recall of her Turbo Como SL was extremely disappointing. While I appreciate that Specialized addressed a serious safety issue, the way the recall was handled left us frustrated. The recalled bike posed a risk of serious injury or death through no fault of the customer. Despite this, my mother was required to pay approximately $1,750 to receive a replacement Turbo Vado because there was no comparable replacement option available. It is difficult to understand why customers should have to spend thousands of dollars to replace a two-year-old bike that was recalled due to a manufacturing defect. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The process was also slow and lacked clear communication.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]During the delay, the color she originally wanted sold out, leaving her with fewer choices.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Between the unexpected cost, uncertainty, and limited options, the overall experience did not reflect the level of customer service we expected from a company with Specialized's reputation.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We have always believed Specialized stood behind its products, which is why this experience was so disappointing. I hope the company reevaluates how it supports customers affected by major safety recalls so that loyal customers are not left bearing the financial burden of a defect that was beyond their control. read more

Thought I would stop in after having lunch in the same complex with my wife, just needed some tire sealant. FWIW, I've spent over a decade in the cycling industry, and used to race bikes professionally. Walked into the shop, two employees behind the counter--one on a computer facing the shop floor/me, another talking to the single customer in the shop. I stood there for a few minutes, didn't get any sort of eye contact or acknowledgement from either employee, no "be right with you", to the point where it got a little weird. Took a quick browse around the shop (not worried about losing my plane "in line" since the store was empty) then came back to wait again at the counter for several more minutes. My extremely kind & patient wife tells me--this is weird--and I tell her yes, let's go. Both employees have to hear this conversation, the shop is basically silent, we're standing a few feet away. Computer guy doesn't even look up. Walked out the store, still not a word. I know the cycling industry has a reputation for gatekeeping, and being condescending, rude, etc., etc., but I really had never experienced anything like this before. It should not be tolerated. On a positive note, there are several good, local, family owned shops that are kind & helpful. I would suggest seeking them out instead. read more

On a 50+ mile bike ride, stopped for caffeine at Starbucks. After finishing my beverage, I hopped onto my bike to ride towards the coast on La Costa. Heard a few clicks, crank wouldn't spin, and saw what happened - my chain got sucked into the crank. Tried getting chain back out but with severely limited mechanical skills and not wanting to scratch my frame to death, I went to Google map and searched for bike stores. Super fortunate that Specialized Carlsbad was a 5 minute walk away! So I walked my bike there and asked for help. Without hesitation, the girl manning the front started working on the chain, and popped it out in 20 seconds. I was super impressed! Then, without prompting, she said "let me get one of my mechanics to check out the limit screws. They're busy but we'll see what they can do." 30 seconds later, a mechanic comes out from the back. I explain the situation, and he immediately puts my bike on a rack, examines the shifting, the chain stop that's supposed to stop the chain from dropping, and diagnoses that the person who built my bike must have lost the original chainstop hex key bolt, and substituted with philips head bolt. Nonetheless, tightened the bolt as much as possible and suggested a couple stores where I get a proper replacement bolt, handed me my bike, and said "have a nice day." I call that great service! I was about to ask "how much" and the girl jokingly said "that'll cost you $100!" A big smile, and another "have a nice day." If I'm looking for a Specialized bike, I'll definitely be back! read more

Excellent local bike shop. I've been riding 5 plus decades. The shop passes all the metrics: dependable, professional and honest communications. The shop doesn't cut corners and shows genuine appreciation of the customers needs. Only want to work on bikes 2-3 years or newer. Won't repair, only suggest replacing anything older. Extremely high end bike shop that only suggests replacing all the parts instead of fixing it because charging customer more is easier, faster and more profitable for them. Don't buy a Specialized, buy a Trek instead. If you have a Specialized older than 3 years, take it to Zombie Bikes. That guy is a great dude and genius with bikes read more

I was looking to upgrade my mountain bike to a new stumpjumper. I've been riding bikes my whole life but I'm certainly not an expert and there's a lot I don't know especially because my riding history has been more focused on road cycling rather than mountain biking. I went into specialized hoping to gain some insight on which mountain bike may be a good fit for me. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The shop was not packed but nobody seemed to want to help me.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]When I asked my novice mountain bike questions the responses I would get from the service manager Michael were condescending and unhelpful.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I'd always heard of the stereotypical snobby bike mechanic experience, but fortunately hadn't experienced it until this shop. The shop does have a nice selection of new Specialized bikes but that was the only plus. Needless to say I left and purchased my new stump jumper from UC Cyclery in La Jolla. read more

Have been dealing with a noisy brake issue on a brand new gravel bike from them for months and they still have not resolved or fixed the issue. Review is for this particular shop rather than the Specialized brand, they make a good product. As for the shop, a consumer shouldn't have to try so hard to spend a few thousand dollars. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Awful salesperson, grumpy and off-putting.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Still tried to buy two bikes. Told would arrive next week, they didn't, kept checking and kept getting nothing more than "in transit." No thanks. If it's this hard to buy from them what's it going to be like if there's a problem or need service. Went elsewhere and bought a different brand. I called in to have my bike serviced and they were very friendly on the phone. I brought my road bike in due to issues with the shifters. The shop was clean and easy to access. I dropped my bike off on Sunday afternoon and it was ready by Monday. Very reasonable price and friendly staff. Thanks for the help I will be back for all my service needs. read more

The best bike store ever!!! They were the most helpful and patient with my particular needs. I am handicapped and can't walk but I can ride a bike it's getting on and off is my problem. Dropped in one day to see what they had and the sales person, jasmine was there to help in any way. When done we left with a bike for my grandson and I tested their electric bike for adults. We went to every bike shop in the area and no place was as friendly and helpful as this shop. And we test ride other bikes and none compared. Came back and bought my electric bike. It's so nice! I took my Specialized bike to them today to take a look at some shipping damage from shipping my bike to Carlsbad. They dropped what they were doing, put my bike on the rack and repaired the damage in 15 minutes. They charged me nothing. I think they are professional and amazing! read more
