I don't know what exactly they put on their garlic bread but it's the most delicious garlic bread on the planet. I could eat their garlic bread every day of my life. I could make a full meal out of just their garlic bread. Today, I waited patiently for 30 minutes for the garlic bread guy to finally get to us. It was worth the wait. As I took that first bite, I swear I could hear angels singing. That garlic bread is so good, David said he was done and I flipped the little wooden thing to red for "stop", but then he saw the garlic bread guy come back around and he flipped it to green for "go" again. But the garlic bread guy walked past us without blessing us with more. I asked David if he wanted me to flag the garlic bread guy down and he said no. Rio De Grill. I don't speak Spanish, but that sounds like it means something amazing is coming. I was there with a party of four as we all opted for the meat. Oh my goodness, what a show it was. The servers, one by one, just kept coming in with meat out of nowhere and cut it for you. My Valentine's Day was my Hubby Tony Vanoy, and I decided to surprise him. We arrived early because our day was planned out. We went in and not many people there but it was early. That's a $10 per person increase on the price but again its Valentine's Day Love is Priceless right??? I hadn't seen the sign and really grateful we didn't need reservations because I forgot to call ahead. I looked at Tony and he said We are here..Just pay the lady...lol!!! She seated us so we could start our Brazilian Steakhouse Adventure. She showed us how to use the Red, Green and Yellow Triangle on our table and took our drink order. I went with unsweetened Iced Tea with lemon and Tony took a large Budweiser Draft. We went to the salad and sides bar I was happy to see that they had Caprese Tomato Salad and Crostini. I also tried just one piece of Deep Fried Squid..heck take a chance on Love and Squid?? Why not?? I also got just a half scoop of Seafood Salad to go with my Lettuce, Tomatoes, Black olives and Onions with Ranch Salad, and few pieces of chilled Shrimp. They started coming around with the meats on swords and we were going to try everything they delivered to our table, I might not eat it all but I am going to try it. Firs they arrived with Garlic Bread, then grilled pineapple..two of my favorites. Followed by Italian Sausage, Bahama Sausage, Chicken Breast wrapped in Bacon, Ham, Chicken Legs, Prime Rib and Sirloin, followed again by Pork Tenderloin and Lamb..then came a Beef Tenderloin crusted in Garlic..and we had to turn to Yellow...Pause Please we are on meat overload I could have made a meal with the Prime Rib, Garlic Crusted Beef Tenderloin, Garlic Bread, Grilled Pineapple and my Caprese Tomato Salad and Crostini. The food was all good, and after eating about half of what was on our plates we decided NOT to turn back to Green from the Yellow but to go straight to Red and let them know we Stopped!! The Meat had officially kicked our butts!!! If you like Meat or on the Keto Diet then this is the place for you. During day lunch is only $15.99 for 12 different meats and dinner starts after 3pm for 16 meats at $25.99 drinks cost extra and the salad bar with its hot and cold sides is only $9.99 The food was very good and plenty of it. Knock off Brazilian steak house, dank dark and dirty, buffet is lack luster and almost never refreshed with fresh food, you are always scrapping the bottom of the pan for old food which had turned crusty. resting in what used to be a shoney's is now a Brazillian Steakhouse called Rio De Grill... first off this was the first time i actually loved eating Spongebob's house (which is a pineapple). then the meats are what you expect... tender, moist, melt in your mouth, succulent, smokey... the rolls were soft as they should be... the shrimp soup was amazing AF, the crab salad reminded me of my past with another restaurant that was amazing and still open... the marinara sauce is,was and always will be the sauce... unless it is ketchup... the cookies are not shown in the photos but they were delicious. the drink i had was diet pepsi... that gets an A+ and this was my second time experiencing and learning about the brazillian steakhouse stuff... but you guys have perfected it more than the one that was in elkview... i shall return to Rio De Grill in the near future... peace out, Bailey Robert Chandler read more

Although a unique dining experience for the Charleston area, I find it impossible to recommend this restaurant to anyone. A Brazilian steakhouse which is chinese-owned is the very least of the issues here. Sanitary standards are not adhered to. I overheard a server say they use the same towels for at least 2 days in a row and do not have saniwater in the buckets. The amount of meat served and promptness of service is dependent on the guacho carving it. Lunch is the same as dinner but half the price. The bar has outdated liquor and wine and no bartender so good luck with that. And the hostess must be an owner and she is a screamer at fellow employees. Awkward... The positives? No wait unless you have a large party. Decent decor and a quiet place to meet with clients or sit and work alone...f you aren't eating. Bathrooms were poorly lit , cold, filthy places you went to only when necessary. Slowly they have become somewhat warmer, brighter but still dirty. Wasn't impressive. At other Brazilian steakhouses, there's a continuous supply of food coming out at all times. At this one, they would bring small amounts of food out, sometimes not enough for everyone at our table to get a portion of their own (we had four adults and a toddler). For example, they brought out sausages one time and didn't have enough to go around...some of us got them and some didn't. So, we'd have to wait for the next go round. And we only saw one guy serving our section of the restaurant...which meant that sometimes, the waits were long. The food was just okay...the prime rib was pretty good, but you only got a thin slice. It was very rare in the middle, which was fine with me, but off putting to some others in our party. There was no choice of "doneness", so if you don't like rare, then you don't get to eat. Fair enough, I guess, but then they brought out pork that was also rare. Yeah, that's not really something that should be done IMHO. Unlike beef, when it's not fully cooked, pork gets very tough in the middle and is not appetizing at all. The breaded shrimp off the bar was very good, and the salad ingredients were mostly fresh. The sausage and peppers from the bar were pretty good too. But the artichoke salad was just not good, the bruschetta had sat for too long and the bread became soggy (why not just have the bread and toppings separately and let the diners put their own on?) and the desserts were not memorable in the least. My wife called the potato salad "questionable"...she's not at all sure it wasn't spoiled. For the four of us (+toddler) our bill came to over $90 with 20% tip. Probably won't go back. read more

Fried mushrooms/soups- did not sample but others in my party said they were average. Garlic bread- very good, buttery, don't skip this, other than the garlic tenderloin, it's the best thing they've got going for them! The meats: All were pretty bland except the garlic tenderloin, it was very good. The sirloin steak was medium rare (fine with me!), although you could request a more well done serving. The sirloin was tender, but again, not much flavor. The ham was nothing special, nor was the ribs. They served a warm cinnamon sugar pineapple with the ham, it was good, but not "omg out of this world" good by any stretch of the imagination. I sampled every meat they offered for dinner, even a tiny bite of chicken heart! Other reviewers mentioned mashed potatoes and corn offered on the bar, no such luck tonight. I feel like other than the salad I had before the meal, there were no sides, it was just all meat. You definitely won't leave hungry because there are so many meats to sample. My favorite restaurant. If you're a meat lover, this is the place for you. Great food and service. Also the grilled pineapple is amazing.

First, let me explain something about this rating. Rio de Grill, being a Brazillian steakhouse, is going to get compared to the likes of Fogo de Chao and Texas de Brazil a lot. Such comparisons aren't entirely fair. Rio de Grill is more upper-end family dining than fine dining, and it's half the price of those two. To be entirely honest it doesn't compare to those two place when it comes to quality, but for half the price it doesn't really have to. There are a few things that I'd still call cheap which I'll get to later. Onto the rest of it. The hostess and a waitress were very nice while helping me wheel my wheelchair-bound mother into the restaurant, and very patient while explaining the menu. It is very dim in there and mom had trouble reading it. The food is very solid for the most part. The salad bar had several different things - little slices of bruschetta toast, artichoke heart salad, a lightly dressed and tasty pasta salad. The hot bar actually had literally the same things I've seen at chinese buffets before - sliced butter potatoes, mixed steamed veggies. It also had roast turkey and gravy (this was 2 days after Thanksgiving) which was pretty good. The churrasco was pretty good. On a Monday evening they didn't have everything out, so I didn't get to try the chicken hearts. What I had though was between pretty good and good. The Italian sausage was the same stuff you can buy at Kroger, not homemade, and I suspect all the meat was shopping center grade not restaurant grade. The lamb shoulder had a big chunk of unchewable gristly stuff, but it tasted fine. Shrimp was good, bacon wrapped chicken was good, the various kinds of steak were good. Grilled pineapple was great. The little pieces of fried banana they brought out were also good. Dessert was the same stuff you see at Chinese buffets too, I didn't bother with it. Was it as good as Fogo de Chao? Not in a million years. Was it worth the $27 for dinner? Ehhh... not really, but I wouldn't call it horribly overpriced. If they'd exchange the crap buffet desserts for one or two house made desserts I'd have been completely happy. Look, all you'd have to do for a satisfactory dessert would be put some plantain on the hot bar and something sweet to dip them in or ice cream to serve them with. Based on the number of reviews that complained about a lack of cleanliness, I looked around. I didn't see any sanitation issues in the kitchen (which is partially open) or in the bathroom. Final rating about 3.75 out of 5, rounding up to a 4 which is a little high but more fair than a 3 out of 5. read more

Every year this is our family stop for Father's Day. It's been a tradition for several years now. We usually take my husband, our grown kids, and this was the first year we took our toddler, and my husband's parents. So, if you've ever been there, you know that's a pretty penny - and after waiting tables for 10 years myself - I consider myself to be one of the better tippers out there. So yesterday we go in, got seated fast, mer our wonderful waitress who was so lovely and accommodating. We were just waiting for my father in law to push my disabled mother in law through the door in her wheeelchair. As I'm taking her to the buffet to help her plate her choices, we come back to the table and the meat is already being served. Great we love it. Most of the guys bringing the meat around were so sweet, funny and helpful. HOWEVER, one meat server in a white hat treated my in laws in the most rude way I've ever seen. Had I not been so shocked - my husband and I would've probably said something. It stunned us how rude he was treating a disabled woman and a man with a long beard. Honestly, felt discriminatory. One example was the guy brought the sirloin around and she said she would like a piece, he promptly told her she already has some left on her plate. AND?? He smacked my father in laws tongs off a piece of meat that looked like he was clearly handing him and handed it to someone else. Lastly, he would ignore them completely to the point that I would have to ask for what they were wanting and put it on their plate. This is WV - our in laws wear beards and some are disabled. That doesn't mean they should be treated as sub par humans especially on a day dedicated to said Father in Law. My heart breaks for them and they way they were treated. read more

Stopped in as a group of seven for a Monday evening dinner. Seated right away. Servers were quite attentive and nice. The meat server was fantastic, very nice and took requests to the kitchen. Food was fantabulous! Wide variety of meats - all seasoned well and hot! The buffet bar also appeared well kept and fresh - although many of us didn't eat from there since we came primarily for the main course. Several recipes of shrimp on the bar were good. Today was our first time (My wife and i) visiting this place. Upon walking in it was 3:30 and we realized that it was lunch time and dinner started at 4pm. The Manager came over and said that because we drove an hour and a half to come there, she was going to allow us to have dinner. As we waited for the meat to come we helped ourselves to the salad bar. It was very good, lettuce and everything you would put on a salad on 1 side and salad items on the other. (Shrimp cocktail, seafood salad, artichoke salad, bruschetta, .. etc) The atmosphere was great and so was the staff. Everyone was friendly and the food kept coming. I'm very satisfied and with that being said I was VERY full upon leaving the establishment. The Garlic bread, the grilled Pineapple, the grilled shrimp, and the Prime Rib were a few of our favorites. It was myself, my husband and our almost 3 year old daughter wanting to enjoy a Friday night dinner. When the hostess approached us I told her it was 2 adults and child and if we could be seated somewhere out of everyone's way since we had a small child with us. The hostess then proceeded to say "I can seat you as long as she doesn't bother anything". Every 5 minutes, their chef would come out and give us a cut of Prime Rib, Ribs, Chicken Drumsticks, Sausage, and Grilled Pineapple. This place NEVER opened as Rodizio Grill. Not sure what happened but it was announced as Rodizio at least through their hiring period and then, BAM, they open as Rio De Grill. I went into this with great expectations. I've eaten at many churrasco style restaurants across the country like Fogo de Chao and Texas de Brazil and decided to check this new one one out, even after they dropped their announced affiliation with Rodizio Grill. That should have been my first clue. The renovated interior and atmosphere was very nice. Foodwise, it was needs a lot of work. The salad bar was just weak. Typical salad fixings with a smattering of odd buffet style choices for a restaurant like this. Goulash? Beef Stroganoff? Just weird. Ordinary pasta and potato salad. No smoked salmon or fresh cheeses. Shoney's had a better salad bar. As for the meats, beef chicken and pork are usually the order of the day at a place like this. Except this one has strange Chinese restaurant influenced selections as well. Grilled shrimp and grilled tilapia seem like odd choices. My favorite is always the picanha, but I was kind of disappointed here. It was all WAY too rare (all the selections were) and most were underseasoned. Some slices of the picanha were actually cool in the middle. The pork loin was delicious as was the bacon wrapped chicken Very skimpy portions though. You practically had to beg for more than one thin slice of meat. Service was good, however the carvers could learn a little table etiquette. I felt a little uneasy when one cut towards me several times while he was carving. And they shouldn't reach across diners to serve others at the table. Walk around the table. Don't make someone reach across another person. Dessert wise, I wish I hadn't wasted my time. They're the same pre-prepared, pre-sliced choices you find at every Asian restaurant in town. Most were dry and rubbery, as if they had been sitting out all day, which I'm sure was exactly the case. The all you can eat buffet is big in West Virginia but at $27.99 weekdays and $29.99 weekend for dinner, most people are going to opt for Golden Corral. The only positive thing I have to say about Rio De Grill is that it's decorated well. We went in around 6:30pm on a Thursday, there was one lone diner but no other customers in sight. We were quickly greeted and seated at a booth. The waitress seemed professional at first but then warned us about the price. She said a lot of people were shell shocked by the $27.99 dinner and said the meal was "like 7 courses" and well worth it. The prices were listed on the menu so I don't know why she felt the need to warn us about the price. I certainly wasn't expecting a dollar menu here. She explained how things worked and took drink orders, then we went to the salad bar. The salad bar is very limited and basic, nothing exciting or different. The side dishes are also at the bar, corn, veggies, mashed potatoes...they even had a soup but no bowls in sight. The waitress returned with our drinks, bread served with pesto and olive oil, cheese bread balls and bananas rolled in cinnamon. The cheese balls were dry. The bananas were dry...when we were ready for the main course and grabbed some mashed potatoes, those were dry. All the meat served was dry. Drink refills were needed but few and far between. The two servers bringing the varieties of meat were out of sight often. 15 minutes would go by without seeing anyone. The desert plates are also at the bar which consisted of "white cake with syrup" and another cake I couldn't identify. The cake was obviously store bought pound cake that had been sitting out too long. The syrup appeared to be chocolate syrup drizzled on top. Nothing fancy, nothing good, one small bite and I was done. The waitress was eager to "cash out" and asked if we were ready to "cash out" a few times. This place may be better when it's busy, but I don't plan on finding out. I think the staff could use more training...perhaps visiting a Texas de Brazil or another popular Brazilian restaurant sometime would be helpful. read more
