We cannot say enough positive things about Ridgeside K9 training. They came recommended by several friends and after inquiring we were able to schedule our 9 month old English Cream Retriever for a 3 week board and train with Perry and Brandi Bailey. About a week before our puppy was to head off we decided to also see if they could accommodate our 5 year old lab mix as we decided we wanted them both on the same training system. Hand off was easy, while of course sad to leave our boys for three weeks, the kennel facility at the Bailey household was excellent. Over the course of three weeks we were updated daily by Brandi (over 160 photos!) that made the time go by much quicker. We could see the improvement in each dog and were able to watch our 9 month old grow a BUNCH into a big strong 10 month old. Now here is where it gets really good. The turnover of both dogs. Perry came to our home in his totally decked out mobile kennel on wheels that allowed him to run AC and keep the pups comfortable. For the first two hours of the turn over Perry went over all of the training systems with us including command words, voice inflection, E-Collar use, what buttons to what. We could tell during this initial two hours he really got to know and understand each dog individually and together. While doing a dual dog turnover is rare, Perry handled it brilliantly. We started with the puppy, got him out of the van and did the leash work and exercises for all the loose leash walking they had been working on, swapped dogs and did the older pup. Then we worked with both dogs. Double healing, leader/follow healing etc. It was night and day from when we sent them both off as each pup while they walked well, still pulled us more than we realized. The next three hours (yes, Perry did a 5 hour turnover) we worked on aspects inside the home, door manners, place cots, extended place, and of course off leash in the back yard for back yard manners and setting boundaries. I can say it has been 48 hours since they have returned and it is a totally different ownership experience to have two well behaved dogs, including a 10 month old puppy. The techniques you learn if you listen and participate during the turnover are easy to incorporate into every daily routine. Even on hot days outside, when leash work may not be possible - you can put every training method they teach you into place with simple everyday tasks. Highly recommend. read more

A year and a half ago I had a two-year-old 75 pound musclebound blockhead with leash-reactivity and other assorted behavioral issues and a one-year-old death row rescue who put me in the hole for $14,000 due to his indiscriminate ingestion of undigestible objects. Dogs with "issues" are nothing new to me but these two were proving more challenging than most. I had marginal success with a couple of trainers and my "home schooling" that had previously been enough for prior dogs wasn't cutting it. I was at a loss and way overdue in finding help because I didn't know who would take two troubled pitbull mixes but the day I stumbled upon Ridgeside K9's Facebook page, I suddenly had some hope. I'm a big time "momma bear" when it comes to my dogs and was afraid of sending them off to a trainer I knew little about with worries they would be mistreated, harm themselves, or escape and become lost. After stalking Ridgeside's page and watching probably every video posted, I knew Aaron was the only trainer for my boys. During my initial meeting with Aaron and a tour of Ridgeside K9's beautiful facilities, I was immediately put at ease. Aaron explained his training methodology, reviewed his philosophy, and even discussed dog psychology, of which I think many trainers lack knowledge. When the time came to drop Cliff and Grumble (aka Black and Blue, their Ridgeside K9 "camp names") off for their board and train, I nearly had an anxiety attack but was again put at ease by Aaron's calm, confident manner and assurances that they would be fine. Fast forward a year and a half and the house still maintains a more calm energy. I can have visitors over without fearing somebody will acquire a black eye or whiplash from over exuberant welcomes and my little guy has been free of additional surgeries. Aaron has met with me a few times to help sort out issues with my big guy, Blue. When Blue and I recently had some major miscommunication and differing opinions on proper leash etiquette, my distress call to Aaron was immediately answered with, "when can I have him?". Blue spent a few days back at Ridgeside and we are now at the best place we have ever been. The follow-up training (mostly momma coaching) afforded by Ridgeside and the post-training Ridgeside Family group walks are invaluable. What once were stress-filled quick jaunts around the 'hood have become long and enjoyable training sessions (because we train everyday!) that I look forward to. We even take an extra loop around the block because it's fun now!!! I honestly can't imagine there being a trainer that would be a better fit for my boys' and my needs. Thankfully, Aaron offers boarding services for dogs he has previously trained. I am able to go away without worrying about their safety and well-being and come home to happy and relaxed. I have posted a few reviews, a few good and some bad. There are not enough stars to give Aaron and Ridgeside K9. These trainers are the real deal! I had so many emotions when we dropped him off 14 days ago. I was worried that he would forget us. I was worried that Axel was going to come back to us and not be my playful sweet baby! He is still all that, but now listens and is focused. Aaron spent 3 hours with me to ensure I was comfortable using the e-collar. Our stubborn rottie made him work for the fee we paid. I had a very large, semi-aggressive Alaskan malamute puppy (1 year old) weighing 120+lbs. For the last year regardless of how hard i tried to train him, he wouldn't listen or learn. Anytime i walked him he would practically drag me the entire time and would easily get aggressive towards me if people walked by or cars drove by and startled him. He would jump up on people to give "hugs" and would completely knock them over. He tore up carpet, ate drywall, completely destroyed furniture, and would constantly bite or jump up on me. We sent our very reactive Chihuahua / Terrier mix to Ridgeside K9 for 3 weeks after previous training attempts had proven unsuccessful. After speaking to Aaron, we were quickly paired with Ryan. Our new, adopted, young, extremely exuberant lab mix just returned from 3-weeks of Ridgeside training and there is an unbelievable difference. He was a sweet dog with unmanageable energy and obedience issues. There was relentless mouthing and chewing and we could not even walk or sit near him without getting chewed on and he destroyed a long list of inanimate objects. He dragged us around on walks and could not even go off leash in our large fenced yard because he would escape underneath the one section of the fence that was not ours and was not secure. We now know how to manage the mouthing/chewing when he tries to sneak in his old tricks and the tween kids can now spend time with him or play with him (they could not prior to training). I've actually "walked" him multiple times since he's been home rather than running behind him and jumping over everything in our path like a racehorse was dragging me. The two of us also played ball for an hour this morning in our yard, off leash, and it's obvious his escape act is a thing of the past. The most critical reason we sent him to Ridgeside is because we have a frail, half blind, 17-year old mini dachshund to keep safe. (We kept them separated before training.) The fact that Ridgeside trainers bring the dogs home and spend HOURS training the family in your own environment was the game changer in selecting them. Our Ridgeside trainer helped us introduce old and new dogs. The new, large, lab was skittish and reserved and has continued to take a backseat while the little old cranky doxie enforces her turf. This is still a work in progress--since the new dog just returned--but my primary fear of him going after the small senior dog because of his hunting instincts has been assuaged. I feel that I've been a superior dog owner in caring for a dog with health issues for 17-years. I felt like I had never been around a dog with the new one and I didn't know if I could handle it. We adopted a 5 month old American bulldog lab mix in August of 2019 - we were expecting our first human baby in February 2020. Although Baloo was a good boy with all humans and dogs, like most pets, he needed structure and training. My wife and I recently dropped our two pups off with Brandi at Ridgeside K9 for a 2 week board and train. Our dogs are super friendly, but we really failed them on their training's. When guests would come over they would jump all over everyone and not listen to anything we said. After having the dogs back for a little bit, they are so much more well behaved. We are able to get the dogs to hold in place and come to us on command. Now, they won't go sprinting outside until I tell them they can. Our 10-month old boxer-lab mix, Wrigley, is high energy, very playful, and headstrong. . . fully embracing his adolescence. He was easily distracted on walks, pulling the leash, jumping on other dogs and people, and only sporadically responsive to commands. Top notch dog training experience. Perry and Brandi were outstanding and helped us to understand some misconceptions that many dog owners experience. They helped us to understand that we as owners need to be in command and lead at all times and not the other way around. Also, EVERY dog is different as we expected to be able to train our dog just like our other dogs and this is just not so. They set the clear expectations from the onset on how the training process would progress. Our 14 month old German Shepherd had fear issues resulting in some aggression but was not an aggressive dog. This required an extensive four week training to build trust and instill positive behavior and reinforcement. They kept us informed daily with text messages that included photos and progress details. Upon delivery of our dog, Perry spent an extensive amount of time training us and providing us with the tools to continue to reinforce proper behavior. Also noted that we should understand various situations and environments that we should and should not expose our dog to in order to prevent any confrontations. Bottom line is that they truly care about not only the dogs but also their clients and it most definitely showed. I absolutely recommend Ridgeside K9 for your dog training needs! I have a 1.5 year old GSD/Aussie mix from Texas who needed some extra help... or should I say, I needed the training help! Despite taking my dog through 1:1 basic and advanced training prior to Ridgeside K9, I noticed that my dog was developing some behavior problems which in turn made me less confident in being able correct his behavior. I decided to send my dog to 4 weeks of training with Brandi and Perry, and I cannot recommend them enough! During drop off, we talked in depth about my needs, my dog's needs, and what I hoped to get out of the board and train. During pick up, we talked, I learned, and then I practiced for 4 hours with Perry and Brandi. Both were incredibly patient with me, providing different examples to help me understand my dog and how to communicate with him. It's now 1 week after having my dog back under my care and I feel like it is the fresh start we needed! I not only have the confidence to know how to work with him based on his specific needs, but everyone who had met him prior to training can see the huge difference in his behavior! It is a drastic change, all for the better! I am so excited for what's ahead for me and my dog. Our American bulldog Levi was a rescue that had terrible leash manners and dog aggression. Since he is 110 pounds of muscle we were nervous to have these types of problems and knew we needed help. We found Ridgeside through Facebook and filled out the online questionnaire. Within a few hours someone reached out and answered all our questions. We were paired with Aaron Jeter who also reached out right away. We decided to do the four week board and train. Aaron was excellent in ways we didn't even know were possible. Every day he would send us an update on how Levi was doing that included a picture or video of our boy. After the four weeks of training Aaron brought Levi back to our house which was so convenient for us. He spent several hours with us teaching us all the new commands and had us practice so that he was there for any questions. I could tell that Levi really trusted Aaron when he came home because he followed him everywhere and looked to him for praise when he did a good job! Aaron also checked on us for several days after he dropped Levi off to make sure things were going well and that we didn't have any questions. Levi is now a VERY well behaved dog. We're so happy that we trusted Aaron to train him and to teach us how to control the leash and dog aggression. We brought our 3 year-old coonhound to Ridgeside because we were having so much difficulty getting her to listen. She was digging, barking incessantly, stealing food, playing too rough with the kids, nervous around strangers and had lots of other bad habits. After 3 weeks, she came home our same loving girl, but was now eager to please us. We are able to have her outside and even take her for walks off leash (we live in a rural area so her prey drive is very high). She stops barking when we tell her to and she doesn't ring the bell a hundred times a day to go outside and get into trouble. Her old habits have gone by the wayside. Background: 5mo German Shephard. Energetic and needs to be five inches from your face (to love you). What I asked for from Brandi and Perry: Leash training. The 'basic commands' listed in the description; would be a bonus. But I live on a busy street, so him listening to me when we walk is for everybody's safety. Purchased the three-week program, (and even on of their cots because they kept bringing them up). During hand-off and before I 'took control', the dog needed 'stem'. This was, right-out-of-the-van. I hadn't seen another person or animal in the empty parking lot to distract him. Low level didn't work; so Perry 'went up'. This caused the dog to yelp, continuously, run to the cot, and cower. (this was in an empty parking lot...no distraction happening). He struggled listening to him, and me. I chalked it up to Perry having a cold, the pup hates car rides...nobody was having a good day. I noticed him scratching himself, every chance he had during the hand-off. (he takes oral flea medicine, and I didn't find any on him, but he was covered in dandruff. I didn't send him to the groomers, but it was apparent he didn't get a bath for three-weeks). Something Perry stated about how he 'Used trained the K9s for policeman, and people were always shocked to hear me speak the attack-word in German.' (well this is a pet, not a tool for policeman, so that doesn't really impress me at all...it kind of makes me uncomfortable you think it does impress people). Over the subsequent week, it was apparent he learned, NOTHING about leash training. I've read a very lengthy one from another customer where their dog was crated in their vehicle during a vacation. Which also led to no attention to their dog and no results either. So, let's not start out with a lie, please. The 'guarantee' ? Not happy with your results? Bring your dog to our facility (a half-days drive) where we will decide if he requires more training. Let me get this straight; I got back an unwashed, cowering dog with no correction to the behaviors I asked for, and they added a few undesired more, and you want me to trust him with you, (while you already have verbalized disbelief to my questions) and trust that you will treat him appropriately? So the guarantee is completely subjective to their discretion. And just to tell you how they treat the dogs, I tried to bring up a point my veterinarian made, and Cassy cut across to say, 'That's not medical advice. They shouldn't give training advice. I wouldn't give them medical advice.' A decade of studying a profession seems to fall flat, to their opinion. If you ignore this whole post, please believe me when I say: my dog, Ty, is sweet, and smart. Rebuilding his trust in me, breaks my heart. We had the greatest experience working with Nicole and Ridgeside. We've had many trainers over the last few years to try to help our rescue lab mix with no success. He's struggled with fear aggression with strangers, ignoring us while out on walks, jumping all over our furniture, and just general anxiety. We finally sent him to Ridgeside and Nicole for their 3 week program and wish we had done it sooner. Nicole was great and stayed in contact with us the whole time, updating us on his progress, sending pictures, and answering all of our questions We've been so impressed with the changes we've seen in him since he's come home. Overall, he's so much more relaxed. He no longer feels the need to bark at every little noise. He comes when called when off-leash in our yard. After only 2 days of reinforcing his training at home, he hasn't jumped on the furniture in 2 weeks. His leash manners have done a 180. I used to dread walking him due to a history of lunging at strangers and gluing his nose to the ground/completely ignoring me. We've gone on 10+ walks since he's been home and it's been night and day. I've been able to have conversations with our neighbors with no growing/lunging/barking. He stays right at my side throughout the whole walk with very minimal correction. I think we both feel much more confident. We still have work to do with having "strangers" in the house, but I now feel confident we have the tools and training to get there. I couldn't recommend Ridgeside enough! read more

I cannot say enough positive things about Ridgeside K-9! I considered sending my two dogs to training for quite awhile and kept putting it off until they pulled me off of my feet twice, once giving me a concussion. My pups aren't bad dogs. I just didn't know how to turn the behavior around so it was positive situation for me and them. A neighbor recommended Ridgeside, and I did some research before contacting them. From day 1, they were professional, positive and straight forward. The fact that they are veteran owned makes it even better. My dogs spent three weeks with Tyler MacMillan and his family. Tyler updated me every day on their progress and listened to my concerns throughout their training. I also received photos of them going through training. When Tyler returned my pups, he spent a quality hour with me and my daughter explaining the basis of their training and how to continue to reinforce their positive behavior. Then, we put it into practice under his guidance. The transformation in my pups is amazing. They do not pull on their leashes or chase after squirrels and rabbits any longer, and they respond immediately to my recall. Our 7 month old Rosie is a sweetheart. Playful and full of curiosity. We needed help on walking her so she did not lunge and bark at oncomng people and dogs. Also having a lake house with woods and open space we wanted amazing off leash recall. I did research and heard good things about Ridgeside K9. We contactected Aaron and he was through explaining their methods. We decided to do the 2 week board and train program and Rosie was picked up by trainer Jeff. To be honest, we were anxious about having Rosie staying with a stranger. Jeff and hand over eased our worries and kept us updated with text and pictures daily. He also always responded when we asked questions during the training. When Rosie returned, we were delighted at her ability to walk on the leash without pulling, her stay in place and off lease recall . Jeff spent hours with us training us on what Rosie learned and we are confident he will respond if we need help further training Rosie. Cannot day enough great things about Ridgeside K9! We adopted our dog a couple of months ago and quickly noticed some behavioral issues. He is 105 pounds and was a nightmare on a leash, he jumped all over and lunged at other people, and he growled and barked at every dog he saw. It got to the point where we couldn't take him anywhere without him acting up which greatly impacted our active lifestyle. After many tears and a lot of stress, we stumbled upon Ridgeside K9. We were a little hesitant about the cost at first, but as soon as we spoke to Aaron and asked a lot of questions about the board and train, we knew this was where Jax belonged. They were able to get him into training almost immediately as we were starting to become afraid of Jax and his actions. We are so thankful for Tommy, who sent us constant updates of our boy and answered all of our questions along the way. He was able to give Jax the training and exposure he needed to multiple environments on a daily basis. The turnover was fantastic and more in-depth than we anticipated. We learned the "why" behind all of the training methods and truly feel that we have a great understanding of how to move forward and continue with Jax's training. Jax has already shown a huge improvement in his mannerisms and we have established the boundaries and communication that he was previously missing. It's comforting to know that we have Ridgeside K9 behind us should we ever need future help or guidance with Jax's training.
