The sweetest family owns this place and is ever expanding their amazing vegan options. Me and my fiancé, who has a web series called The Vegan Roadie, were so happy we found this place. It was our last meal and Rome and it was the best we had and the perfect "Arrivaderci" meal. We had the Gnochetti Fritti (aka Fried Pizza Dumplings) to start, with the most delicious sauce and an incredible vegan cheese. I still dream of this place weeks later, we ate three straight lunches here on our four days in Rome. The vegan carbonara was our favorite but the vegan lasagna, ravioli, and seitan scallopini were all amazing. The seitan was nothing like we get in the United States, it was so tender. The staff could not have been nicer to a couple of very little Italian speaking Americans. The nice thing is that it seems to be popular amongst non-vegans, has both vegan and non-vegan dishes, so this would be a great place if you have a mix of diets in your party. Loved this place. The food was delicious, i had the best Seafood Rissotto ever. Great service, cute little place and the servers were very friendly. The only reason i gave 4 stars and not 5 is because it took a little longer than expected but with the yummy food, i would be willing to go back any day. I had pizza bread with Rosemary and Olive oil for appetizers. It was absolutely amazing, crispy, salted and flavorful. I ordered panna cotta for dessert and a cup of cappuccino. They have their own vegan menu . We started off with vegan fried pizza dumplings which resemble fried donut holes covered in delicious marinara sauce and seasoning!! My boyfriend got the vegan Housemade Big Ravioli. (I dont know what it was stuffed with, but it was GOOD!) I got their daily special meal, "spaghetti with very spicy sauce". Went here after reading all of the rave reviews. When we got there, there was a line and no organization. I'm not sure if there was a host (he might've been a server) but he did not take anybody's name, just asked how many and left for very long periods of time without letting anybody on the line know the wait time or what is happening. After about an hour wait, we were finally seated. We ordered a caprese salad, pasta with mixed seafood, and pasta and mussels with a creamy white sauce. The caprese salad was okay, nothing special. The main course came after that it wasn't warm at all. It was actually pretty cold so I think they made the whole order at once and waited till we were finished with the caprese salad to bring out the pasta. It was cold, but we didn't want to send it back seeing as they were already very unorganized with everything. The pasta with mussels was extremely salty (and I usually enjoy highly seasoned food so if I think it was super salty, then it was definitely overly salty) Shockingly enough, the pasta with mixed seafood was under seasoned (not enough salt or pepper). I found this place on Yelp and I'm really glad about that. During our stay in Rome we actually went there three times because it was so good. One time was only a take away salad for the airport however but that was really delicious as well. For our first dinner there we made a reservation in advance which is a must as the restaurant is super busy at dinner time. They offer a great choice of vegan as well as non vegan options. The menu is huge! The first time I went for an entry with tempeh and a funghi sauce which was very delicious. My mum and my grandma were simply obsessed with their Royal Rifugio Pizzas. When I had a slice I instantly understood why. This pizza is a dream come true. Usually I prefer pizza dough which is thick and fluffy and this was the complete opposite. Nevertheless it was so tasteful and I totally loved it. The second time we went to Rifugio Romano both, my mum and my grandma, got the pizza again. My grandpa got a pizza Capriciosa on our first dinner there and the second time he got the prawn dish. I went for the vegan chickpea omelette which was very delicious. We also took a starter the second time there. It wasn't from the main card and it was some kind of big mushroom. It was good. Both times we got a desert. Once the pizza with the vegan chocolate spread which was awesome. The pizza dough again was so good! The other time the vegan cake of the day which was a fruit cake with some kind of vanilla cream, it was nice but not overwhelming. There are so many vegan and non vegan options on the desert menu as well! The staff was super nice. Before we left we got Limoncello which we hadn't have to pay. So nice! This is my second time here. As a vegan abroad, this was a wonderful treat to find. You have to try their vegan pizza. I think the pizza that comes from my kitchen is the best - typical New York Italian - but their vegan pizza is really incredible. Whatever vegan cheese they use is perfect. First, I'll say that that the vegan penne a la vodka was incredible - probably the best vegan Italian dish I've ever had - the vegan margarita pizza, falafel and pizza dumplings were also delicious! The reason I'm giving only 3 stars though is because there were a ton of fruit flies on the wall next to us and all over the walls in the restaurant and it grossed me out, so I really want the restaurant to fix this fruit fly issue because it doesn't feel sanitary. Also, one of the other pasta dishes came out and the pasta was clearly undercooked where u could see the white dry pasta upon biting so we had to send it back so the restaurant should have more quality control on that. I am looking forward to returning and hopefully those two issues will be resolved! read more

I recently had reason to do a search for vegan restaurants in the area of Rome in which we were staying. This place was around the block and some friends (normal carnivores) had eaten there a few hours ago and gave it a positive review. My companion (allergic to dairy) and I (a vegan) dropped in for dinner. I was amazed to find PAGES of vegan options. As I also don't eat flour, I was further AMAZED to find several options that did not include pasta. We ordered and proceeded to LOVE our meals. We returned for lunch and dinner every remaining meal we were in town. We were both able to have a completely different type of entrée at each meal and all were absolutely delicious. I only wish, two weeks later when we returned to Rome, that we were staying in that same hotel so we could eat here again. I on the other hand ordered the penne a la vodka which was ok, the pancetta was way too fatty to enjoy that I ate around it. Our original server wasn't friendly in any way and never checked on us. I have not yelped in quite a while because I hadn't really had a reason to until now. I went on vacation with my my girlfriend and some of my family to Rome and initially was expecting fantastic food and wonderfuly charming people. I was disappointed on both counts until my Girlfriend and I stopped into Pizza Fantasy. We had been going to restaurants that were recommended in my sisters guide book and almost all of them did not meet my expectations, some of them were downright horror stories. This place was right in front of our hotel but because we were going by the guide book recommendations, we unfortunately didn't give it a chance until a few days before leaving. I can't give a full account of interactions during the daytime because we had only stopped in to have a beer while waiting for our laundry but the evening I give the highest remarks for. Salvatore was our waiter every time we went and he is the most charming and sweetest man that you could ask for, like the Italian uncle you always wanted as a kid. He doesn't speak a word of English but we were able to get by because the menu is in both English and Italian and has accurate pictures of the food. We also communicated through the 10 or 11 words I do know in Italian, a little Spanish and a whole lot of hand gestures but he was patient willing to help us as best he could (the same can NOT be said for many other places we ate at in Rome). The food is delicious (we did not have a chance to try the pizza but the entrees were fantastic) and it is a calm, friendly environment were you just feel like staying. The prices were very reasonable and well worth taking an evening to sit down and enjoy. Also, they are very prompt which is something that you may not fully appreciate until you go to another place to eat, ask for the check and almost 45 minutes later you are still waiting for the bill. We also me Cristiano who is the owners son. We spoke with him for quite a while (he speaks English very well) and told him of our experiences in Rome. He explained to us that his father (who cooked our delicious meals) was a chef for 30 years and that this is a family business who actually cares about it's customers which is true. They really want their customers to enjoy their dining experience and take the effort do do exactly that. If I ever go back to Rome, this will be my place to eat and relax. Tasty, Friendly, Curtious, Very reasonably priced and caring of it's customers. That is the bottom line. It may not be the place you want to propose marriage but it is a wonderful spot to enjoy. read more

We were starving, after finding two other places closed and a long day of walking, so we tried this place on the backs of Yelp reviews. Made us wonder what the other reviewers ate. The pizzas were no better than you'd find in the states, and paled by comparison with other restaurants in Rome. I had a seasonal special pasta with pancetta, pumpkin and cream sauce. The pasta was cooked well, but the pumpkin flavor was completely absent, and the entire dish overpowered by salt. The margarita pizza was meh. My air bnb was super close to this place and being the procrastinators that we are my fiance and I didn't have set plans for new year's Eve. I was able to contact the restaurant through Facebook message with ease. Although they didn't have any open slots for midnight we were able to go at 7:30pm! We got the pre fixed meal, vegan for me, regular for the fiance. My meal was absolutely amazing. It was all a blur but I remember gnocchi with a walnut creamer sauce. Delicious homemade seitan, and a dessert plate with some of the most unique and tasty deserts I have ever had.
