I thought I was going to give this a 5 star review when I saw all the vegan options. How exciting ! However the service is not that great especially if you don't speak English. They brought out my order and 2 of the items were wrong/ not what I ordered. I specifically pointed on the menu to what I wanted and the waitress even repeated back to me what I ordered. They still brought the wrong item and didn't want to change it / pretended to not understand that I wanted to change it?? Tried the vegan ravioli-- average. The dough was way to thick and very small portion. The cream sauce (vegan) was kind of bland. I did enjoy the vegan tiramisu! And they gave us free limoncello shots at the end of the meal. The power kept going out while we were there. There is free wifi though. If in Italy again I would consider trying just for the vegan options (granted they do have a HUGE vegan menu that I appreciate). read more

Authentic Italian cuisine made vegan in the heart of Roma! Food** My partner and I ordered the Shitake Mushrooms w/ Seitan and the Penne alla Vodka. Both dishes were very salty but that's very common in Italy. The Shitake mushrooms w/ Seitan was so delicious and the Seitan was cooked just right (not too rubbery from the gluten). The penne vodka was not very creamy, as expected and was just too salty. We ordered their vegan wine and the Aperfol. Listen, if you haven't tried Aperfol be warned that it is very, very bitter and an acquired taste. My partner asked to get something else but the restaurant would not do so without charging him despite the fact he only had one sip. Service** The service was very slow but the waiter did have a lot of tables. After waiting about 10 minutes I had to go inside the restaurant and ask someone else for our check and then it came soon after. Atmosphere** The outside seating was nice but it's a very busy area, which did not make for a romantic setting. Perfect Linner after a day of exploration in Rome, Italy. Vegan Lasgana was amazing .. restaurant has 4 full pages of vegan dishes as the daughter (my assumption on the lovely lady highlighting menu items) is vegan herself. Pizza with Nduja, Mozzarella, Mushrooms, and Onion is tasty beyond tasty. Nduja is a spicy sausage from Italy. Hands down would recommend this place for an incredibly tasty meal. It was our first night in Rome and I wanted to make sure both me and my not-yet-vegan husband had an excellent meal to kick off the trip. Rifugio Romano delivered! It's very vegan friendly (and very not-yet-vegan friendly), with such a large vegan menu, you're gonna wish you had more space in your stomach or more days to return. First things first, make a reservation or be prepared to wait. It's a small restaurant off the beaten path, but it's clearly made a name for itself as there was a line when I got there and a larger line when I left two hours later. And this was on a Monday night! Even with a reservation, I had to wait for about 15 minutes, so definitely call or email ahead of time. The place seems popular with tourists, as most people around us seemed to be speaking English, but the restaurant itself doesn't feel "touristy." The atmosphere is cozy, very mom & pop, warm yellow and browns. Service was friendly, especially by European standards. The wine list even indicates which wines are vegan, which is rare even in the States, and I appreciated the extra touch. I blindly opted for the Ciù Ciù "Bacchus" Rosso Piceno, one of the vegan wines offered by the glass, and was absolutely delighted. It's a lighter, more refreshing red and it seems to dance on the tongue. We started out with bruschetta al pomodoro and almost cried over how delicious and ripe the tomatoes were. We had great and mediocre bruschetta all over Italy, but this stands out as one of the most delicious. I knew I had a couple weeks of marinara pizza and pasta al pomodoro ahead of me, so I went all in and ordered the vegan spaghetti carbonara. I'm glad I did, because I didn't find anything like it on the rest of the trip. Creamy, cheesy, eggy, and meaty, over perfectly al dente spaghetti. I'll be honest, part of its appeal is the novelty of having spaghetti carbonara in Rome, as I've cooked similar dishes at home, but the quality of the spaghetti and parmesan really took it to the next level. It was delicious. When I saw they had vegan tiramisu for dessert, I could've cried. Tiramisu is one of my most favorite desserts, and I never thought I'd be eating it in Italy. It was so nice and light, with lots of airy mascarpone cream. To cap off the night, we were treated to a complimentary shot of limoncello. This was one of the most fun, delicious, and fulfilling meals we shared in Italy, and I wouldn't hesitate to return to try more things! read more

If you are in Rome, you HAVE to check out Rifugio Romano! The have an incredible selection of vegan food on the regular menu, plus several daily specials that change. Inside is nice and cozy, plus there is a little glassed-off patio area in front. Staff is helpful and they even brought out the chef to say hi to us after they realized we were all vegan! I had lunch here my first day in Rome and just ordered the vegan eggplant parmesan. It's actually listed as an appetizer but was just the right size for lunch. Very hearty with all the cheese and sauce. Then they convinced me to get some dessert when they mentioned having vegan tiramisu. Best I've ever had, and that includes back when I could eat dairy. So tasty with just the right zing from espresso. To top it off, my waitress brought over an ice cold shot glass filled with Limoncello along with my check. Loved it! Came back a few nights later for dinner with a group. I got the baked gnocchi which was delicious. Their sauce is very tasty and the little bit of basil on top was a great touch. The vegan cheese they use isn't like the stuff they sell in the states that is all oily and over-processed. This actually looked and tasted like dairy-based cheese but was vegan. So so good! For dessert they had a vegan panna cotta which I couldn't pass up. They had a few different topping options: strawberry, chocolate, caramel, and blueberry. From all the choices people have, I would advise choosing another restaurant. Why? The service. On a busy night, best to make a reservation. When ordering, I strongly advise to double check the order. If not, you might wait 30 minutes to discover half your items were not ordered with the kitchen. So, have the waiter read back the order. I also advise only placing orders for additional items with your original server. The second server clearly entered an order for Pasta and Tiger prawns, but not for my table! I tried the Bramble Bar and Kitchen, a 5 min walk away. Its ambience, foof and service are far above. If you do not mind the wait, this establishment is perfectly average and nothing special. After being here over an hour, this is all that I have been served. The truffle appetizer never showed, and the Pasta and Tiger Prawn dish is just being prepared. For comparison, I have included photos from the Bramble Bar...you decide. The Tiger Prawns arrived. The pasta is tasty. This dish comes with 3 prawns. When I handed them my credit card, they secondary server profusely apologized, telling me that they are short staffed tonight. That would have been useful information before I sat down... but who wants to turn away customers on a Friday night? I changed my review from 1 star to 2 stars as the waiter apologized for a third time and gave a me a lemoncello on the house. read more

This was probably my favorite food stop in all 8 days of being in Italy. Not a strictly vegan restaurant, but the options are plentiful! I had 3 appetizers (they were small, dont judge me!) and a pasta dish. Stuffed olives were so good, as was the suppli. I'd skip the arancino next time. It was good, but the others were better. The penne with seitan sausage was phenomenal. Perfectly cooked pasta, and the vegan meats were cooked chewy and almost bacon-like in flavor. The salt added a nice touch to the dish. I ended with a vegan irish coffee that was an incredible dessert. Took a tiramisu home for the next day too. Their tiramisu was the best I tried this trip. Great service, great food, ambiance, and fair prices for quality and quantity. A vegan father and son from the UK ended up sitting next to me and we chatted a bit about vegan foods and travel. I was fortunate enough to try this restaurant twice in my week visit to Italy. I highly recommend the sbriciolata vegana del giorno (I had mine with vegan nutella). There are at least two servers who speak English. There is outdoor seating and a clean restroom. I appreciated how plentiful and diverse the vegan menu was. Fabulous restaurant with a ton of vegan options! We came here after a honeymoon shoot in Trovoli and I'm so happy we did. Great service and amazing food. My husband and I are vegan and wish we could've tried all The options but we opted for vegan rice balls, I got A calzone and he got a margarita pizza! We ate here 2x in one day! That's how much we loved their food. It's a family owned restaurant and they have a wide variety of choices including vegetarian and gluten free. Prices are very reasonable considering the quantity and taste of the dishes we ordered. We highly recommend their Alfredo carbonara, porcini funghi, buffalo mozzarella with Parma ham and sausage and onion thin crust pizza. The tiramisu and caramel panna cotta are soooo good. Well we didn't have a reservation so it took us a while to be seated as there was a line for people who didn't have reservations. I think we arrived at around 9pm? The place was packed but they gave us a menu to look over and we talked to one another while we waited. Upon being seated (outside), which wasn't a problem because it was a beautiful night, our drink choices were taken by Tavalo (sp). I had a Fanta, not the first time I've had a soda overseas but it had been my first soda overseas in over 20 years! I must say that it was great! Not as sugary and contaminated as American sodas (fyi: I brought two bottles back to the U.S.). I had the bruschetta which was nice, on a nice bread f/ chopped tomatoes, possibly onions and some olive oil. My friends and I also shared a salad with tomatoes, rocket lettuce, corn and fresh mozzarella! My final meal in Rome, the entree was a bit of a disappointment, fried shrimp and calamari as the menu was too extensive and this was the only thing that stood out to me. The shrimp still had the heads so I had to peel around all of that which I didn't enjoy. The only pitfall of the patio seating was the many people walking by, one being a man and his two dogs, one of which wasn't on his leash. We stopped here for dinner in Rome as it was a few blocks from where we were staying. They sat our group of 6 in the little outside area right away. Service was great. We had appetizers and dinner. Rice balls were really good. The pizza dough "gnocchi" was delicious. Everyone had a really great dinner. The only reason this place doesn't get 5 stars is they allow smoking right there where people are eating. I realize this is a Europe thing but it is so disgusting to be sitting there eating dinner and not be able to breathe because people right behind you are smoking. It was a huge detractor from our meal. We would have sat inside instead but their A/C wasn't working and it was super hot inside. Food was still good and if you're a smoker you shouldn't have any issues. If you are a non smoker be prepared - there's no escaping it! read more

My friend and I visited this restaurant while visiting Roma. It was quite busy for a Sunday night, so we thought we had picked a good spot. The server eventually came to our table to take our drink and food orders, but seemed completely dismissive when I was trying to order a gluten-free meal. This is not ideal when you have to find specific accommodations while dining out. Luckily, my pasta dish came gluten-free. If I could sum up both of our meals, it would be that they were horribly bland. I cannot believe that there ended up being a long queue for the restaurant while we were eating. We came to Rifugio Romano after a long day's walk and we were all starving. It's a very quaint, small, cute, mom and pop shop with warm yellow tones. We saw several diners eating alone, so we took that as a sign it wasn't a tourist trap. Our waitress took our orders promptly and gave us free bread as a starter (though it was a bit excessively tough). None of us were really familiar with Italian dishes, so we did a bit of research on classic Roman pasta. The pasta noodles themselves were fantastic: al denote, slightly chewy but still soft. The spaghetti with clams was the most mediocre dish because we couldn't really taste the seafood and there weren't that many clams. The saltimbocca wasn't super salty and you get the subtle taste of egg yolks with every bite! My sister and I's favorites were the cacio e Pepe and carbonara. They're both simple dishes but cooked so well without an excessive amount of cheese but still creamy and consistent throughout. The portions may initially look small, but you'll be full even several hours after eating. read more

Chose this restaurant around the corner from our hotel that we walked past a few times. We were sat immediately with only a few seats to spare inside. The cheese and meat plate was good (mainly the meat). The fritti was delicious (rice, truffle, mozzarella)! A lot of flavor and the size was big. We tried two different red wines and they were okay. The bucatini was delicious! The sauce had so much flavor and bacon was good as well, but the noodles were the best part. My mate got the salmon penne which was good, but he agreed mine was the better choice. The restaurant is very small but both inside and outside seating were packed by the time we left( probably in the low 50 degrees (Fahrenheit) that night). Outstanding food away from the masses. Worth the trek and short distance from Roma Termini. We had a number of vegan items and left absolutely stuffed but planning our return. The food was delicious and fresh. Amazing flavours that show how vegan can be as good, if not better than, what we're used to.
