I have gotten my nails done by Wendy and she was wonderful. This most recent visit was with an older lady who was incredibly rude, charged $10 for soak off even though I just checked their service menu and it says soak off is included with a gel manicure. She did quite a sloppy job, hardly say a word, rolled her eyes and groaned when I wanted more than one color, and snapped at me for not moving my hand to restart the curing lamp timer, even though she didn't tell me to? She genuinely made me feel horrible when getting your nails done is supposed to be a relaxing experience. Not the best mani-pedi I've ever gotten. This was actually the first time I have ever been concerned about the health of my nails during a nail appointment. Me and a friend went to J&X Nails on a Saturday at 11 am. I was able to easily make an appointment the day before, which was mildly surprising. All other places I called were booked with such short notice. When we arrived they were able to sit us down right away. We both went for gel nails and regular toes. I have been getting gel manicures on and off for years now, so I know what a regular gel manicure is like. The way that our nail techs took off our previous manicures was unsettling. Typically, I get the polish scrapped off gently, but this time it was incredibly rough and painful. I could feel the heat from the nail file on my fingers and it hurt. My friend had the same experience as me with the filing. After they poorly filed off what they could, they wrapped our fingers in tin foil and nail polish remover. After a few minutes with the foil, they took it off and scratched our fingernails even more. After it was all scratched off, the techs dug into the bed of our nails unnecessarily hard to push back our cuticles. It was very painful for the both of us. Not only were the manicure painful, they were also not well done. They were not horrible, but they got gel in both of our cuticles and its not coming out. My cuticles are as red as my red nail polish, and I can see that my nails are growing out and the gel is still stuck in my cuticles. Our pedicures were also pretty rough. They were not painful at all, but the quality of the paint job looks like I painted them. All very frustrating, but $50 for a gel manicure and regular pedicure is good price. Its too bad this place isn't any better. I am genuinely scared to get my nails done again at another place because my nails must be so paper thin now. Typing this review is even a little painful on my fingernails. I will not be returning. read more

I loooooove this nail salon! I've been kind of a jerk and came in during close and they still gave me a pedicure and did my nails. They're so pleasant and always remember me when I come in! The lady who owns it worked downtown for several years and decided to open her own store. She loved what she does and her employees show it. I will say for a fill on acrylic nails and no chip it's more expensive than normal. Most places are $35-$40 and it's $55 for my hands. But she is great! read more

I visited this salon because it is within walking distance of my apartment. The place itself is nothing fancy - a little shabby, even. But the service was great! I was very impressed with the COVID-19 precautions that were in place. The door was locked when I arrived, but Jenny promptly let me in. This gives comfort because that means a lot of random people aren't walking in & out all day. I was the only customer, Jenny maintained a safe distance from me, & they even have plastic partitions up so that when she was doing my nails I did not feel weird about us being so close. She washed her hands and put on a clean pair of gloves in front of me before beginning, & she got the tools she used on my nails out of a sealed bag which was reassuring that they were properly sanitized. She worked hard to make sure my nails were shaped as I requested, & when I was unsure about the color I had chosen she tried several options on me so I could find one I really liked. After it was over she sprayed my hands down with sanitizer for me, & continued to maintain a safe distance while I paid. My nails look great, & I will definitely be back! read more

The best no-chip manicure I've ever received. It lasted for AGES. Made a reservation to get mani pedi with a friend and I was thankful that I did. I live very close to J&X Nails, and I have always wanted to try it since they opened. Unfortunately, I had to have an ankle surgery and took me months to recover from. When I finally visited J&X Nails, I was in a desperate need for a good relaxing manicure and pedicure, but I was fearful at the same time as the surgery site was still tender. Leslie, a lovely respectful young woman, was great. She was very patient with me trying different colors until I found the one, and she listened to my concerns regarding my ankle surgery. Leslie worked on my foot with care and was very gentle not to increase the level of pain. Thank you, Leslie for an amazing work. The place was quiet, cozy and very lovely. The chairs were soooo relaxing you could fall asleep. They also have weekly deals for you to take advantage of. My overall experience was very good, and I left with great nails. The no-chip manicures here are INCREDIBLE. My first one from here lasted 4+ weeks with ZERO chips- only had to get it redone because of nail growth. Was very happy with it so went back again...My second no-chip from here has lasted 5.5 weeks and besides the nail growth it is still in PERFECT condition. Next thing I know we appear in the door of the recently opened J&X on Broadway. Let me tell you guys, this was an utter revelation. Sitting in a full body massage chair while your feet bathe in a tiny hot tub was just the beginning. Full trim, buffing, moisturizing, calf massage - all done with soothing comfort and professionalism. Very reasonably priced and extremely friendly - I'm coming back. I spend a great deal of time on my feet and now they feel like little tender babies. Mm... delicious babies. As I walked in to Queen nails on Clark (now under new management), there was someone in every pedi chair and nail station! Did I mention that I now live in Uptown? Totally wasted trip for a possibly decent mani/pedi (they have good customer service: offering water to drink, but the nail services are inconsistent). Besides how quickly would they rush through my mani/pedi to get to the next person? Methinks not! I'm feeling dejected because I really want to get this done today. Light bulb! I walked past J&X Nail Salon on Sheridan after shopping at Mariano's just last week. It's now 6:15pm and I'm thinking "please let them be open and not crowded!" Well thank you to the nail gods! When I arrived I was the only one. At this point, I need the service, but I was a little apprehensive. No need! The two ladies that were there were wonderful. They did not rush and you could tell they genuinely cared about the service. They were friendly, and being that I was the only one, one person worked on my hands and the other my feet. Nirvana! This place is a hidden gem. It is clean and bright and their service was spectacular. There was soft music being piped in from somewhere, which gave totally relaxed environment. Let me start by saying that I'm really allergic to aloe-- it's a weird and occasionally inconvenient allergy, especially when I want to go to a salon. I called ahead to warn them, which is when I found out that a mani-pedi is only $30 M-W! It's a cute, small space. My fingers and toes look great! In the future I'm definitely going to call ahead instead of calling the same day, because it got pretty busy while I was there. Very friendly and helpful. The space is clean and bright. I've come in a few times now and have been very happy with my nails. They are fast and are able to still make sure the painting is done correctly (no sides of the nails left unpainted or lint stuck under the paint). They have always been willing to give suggestions with colors when asked and have also told me if another color would look better. Lowered my rating due to the last time I went there I developed some pretty bad hangnails, that would get caught on my clothing and were painful. If I come back I will just ask them to push the cuticles down instead of cutting the. The polish though does last a long time. I've done regular and no chip here. read more
