I was met upon entry with a "what do you want im busy ?" response in a rude tone despite the fact that there were only two people and I came in to Simply ask if they dye hair and if they can do the color white she told me that they do every color except white as if she wanted me to hurry and leave and then she pointed at my hair and said she wont do it , what should have happened is that , I should have been met with a "how can we help you?" not , "what do you want?" rude as ever , dont go here and waste youre money , I got racist vibes going in they obviously don't like colored people despite the fact that we we're literally pretty much the same color to make matters worse I came in with my son shameful and disappointing right style salon and barber is a joke read more

I started getting my haircut by Thau at Right Style Salon during the pandemic. I had grown an epic mop of hair after a year of no cuts. She took great care of me and gave a sharp look. My hair grows in different directions and she always pays attention and does an excellent job blending my hair and evening it all out. I almost never leave a bad review, but I have to say that the man cutting my hair here fully butchered my hair -- which is almost impressive given that my cut is about as simple as it could get (buzz on the sides and back, trim on top). Maybe some people struggle with curly hair (I'm about a 3c) but it's so uneven there are tufts of different lengths and...it's just shockingly bad. To be quite honest I loved this barber shop until very very recently. The women who cut my hair and greeted me seemed very friendly and pleasant. The hair cutting experience was one in a million. Honestly was my go to barber shop for an actual hair styling versus a fade or taper. After letting my hair grow out more I came to find out the woman who cut my hair left a large V in the front of my head. Now on first glance or when wearing my hair normally its unnoticeable. However once my hair is laid down or wet you can clearly see where the damage to my hair is done. Which brings me to suttle racism. It does exist and is usually the go to for most people being that being overtly racist in most circles makes you a social leper. I did think that things were fine at this particular location only to find out afterwards that it may of been a façade or a charade. What would of been an easy 5 review went down to a 1 star. This is one of the reasons I don't get back tattoos or any tattoos where you can't clearly see what's being done because well you never know right? Overall this place is now NOT a great place to go if you're of African decent. While other places may or may not be overly enthused about your business this location will take your money but get extremely cavalier with the job that was requested. There are not too many good barbers in The City which I would recommend going to from my experience I would leave SF to get your hair cut unless you have a decent sized bank roll and able to pay $60+ for a fade and a taper. As you can see from my other reviews I have not had the most pleasant experiences lately in The Bay Area...However! Alright people of Yelp - I actually truly believe I just got the best haircut of my life here at Right Style Salon in Castro, SF. I am terrified of getting haircuts. I feel like it can be a gamble to really communicate exactly what you're envisioning and to get the feedback from your barber whether it's feasible/aesthetic. As you can imagine, I was a little anxious walking in for my appointment, especially because I have been growing out my hair and didn't want to lose the progress I had made for it over the past few months. Well I had nothing to worry about. Lily was my barber and from the moment I stepped in, she knew exactly what I needed. I literally didn't even have to tell her, she already knew. And the entire time she's so careful and patient, taking her time to blend and explain what is happening. There were a couple walkins lined up which I thought might pressure her to go faster but she took her time and made sure my cut was exactly as I wanted. We are regulars at Right Style salon and happily stop by to see Thao, even just to say hi. Our usual order is a Men's Haircut and a Children's Haircut. As a busy parent, it's great that we can both have our hair cut at the same salon/barber. I've found a lot of places willing to work with children as clients; however, few are equipped to do it well. Thao has a special pad that my toddler loves to sit on, and he likes looking around her cute salon while attempting to sit still during his haircut. Thao works quickly and thoroughly, and she always treats our son with some delicious candy at the end of his haircut. For my Men's Haircut, Thao always listens to my preferences and asks for clarifications while she is doing her work. She doesn't plow ahead and ask forgiveness, which is important to me as the person that needs to wear the style afterwards. Also, one of my favorite parts of her service is the hot towel massage at the end. It's super relaxing and gives me a moment to escape the demands of life. A haircut for under $50 within walking distance of my home?! What an amazing steal! Pretty happy with how my hair looks and the interaction overall. I was a bit nervous to try out this salon given I am a female and the low number of reviews by females (only 1-2 others at this point), but the price point got me to try this place out and I'm happy I did. My hair profile: long, straight, thick black hair (highlighted brown) Asked for: long layers and long bangs along with thinning out Thao was meticulous and thorough with the hair cut (the haircut took an hour while other salons usually take 30 mins). I'm surprised at how natural she made the layers looked. Usually, after a haircut, it takes a few days for the hair to grow out and look a bit more natural but I walked out of the salon looking natural. Miscellaneous details: I called on a Sunday morning around 10AM and she was able to accommodate me at 10:30AM. She was the only hair stylist working when I went in. She gave some recommendations such as coming in every 3 months for maintenance and also that I should wash my hair before coming in.
