I've been here twice now and the service, drinks, and food have been on point. The restaurant itself is really nicely done but can be loud because of the high ceilings. The first time I dined here, there was a really loud laugher at the next table. Like really loud; it was like he was laughing directly into my ear. :-/ My favorite drink has got to be the old fashioned. So yummy! I haven't ordered anything else bc I love olds fashioneds, but everyone I've dined with have enjoyed their drinks. The pizza Bismarck is my absolute favorite. Love the mushrooms with the over easy egg yolk. So yummy!!! The garlic bread is so good. And I've enjoyed the seafood paella lot. The verdure fritte is also really delicious. Really, the whole experience really did make me feel like I was in Europe: certainly more than any restaurant I've ever been to in Hawaii. The atmosphere was fun. The portion size is European sized. The food was tasty. It reminded me of when I was in Europe. The thing is, when I was in Europe, everything was a lot cheaper. I'm almost never the person who complains about price, but gosh, when you're paying this amount of money everything has to be perfect. The portions are not very big: I was still hungry after an appetizer, entree, and dessert, and so were the other two diners. And while the food was good: don't get me wrong, it was good: it wasn't amazing. We had the verdure fritte, crostini, paella, clam caldoso, and fresh catch. All of these items tasted good. Some of the items were plated very weirdly: the clam caldoso came in a caldron that was maybe 10% full, and the paella seemed to almost be a pancake of rice. Don't get me wrong: the seafood was good, fresh, and the paella especially was well seasoned. But the drink was 16 dollars and was half ice. There are places that are just as good at half the price. I went here with my boyfriend on a Sunday and the service was both quick and friendly! When we went (around 4pm), the restaurant was pretty quiet and we were seated right away. For our appetizer, we ordered the Patatas Bravas and the Verdure Frittes. For the Patatas Bravas, I would say that this was different than the patatas bravas I'm used to eating. I'm a big fan of crispy patatas bravas, and was never really a fan of big chunks of potatoes with mine. Rigo's patatas bravas were on the chunkier/less crispy side, BUT I was extremely pleased with the serving size and the sauce. AS FOR THE VERDURE FRITTES. This was absolutely my FAVORITE food item for the night. The sauce was TO DIE FOR, and the Frittes themselves were just *chef's kiss*--definitely give this a try and start your meal off the RIGHT WAY! Prior to our meals, we had a complimentary salad that came with my boyfriend's dish, which was SO delicious (I don't even know how to explain it, I would highly recommend tasting it though) For our main courses, my boyfriend had the Squid Ink Pasta and I had a pizza (I'm honestly blanking on which one it was because it was on their special menu, but it had egg, ham, and mushroom)! Though it does stain your lips and your tongue, the Squid Ink Pasta is A MUST. The flavoring of the squid ink and the texture of the pasta was just perfect, and we couldn't get enough! My boyfriend said that we had to come back for this for sure. As for the pizza, we didn't get to finish it, but I think that it's a good dish if you're pretty hungry. In my opinion, the combination of the toppings was alright because it was a little bit too much for my stomach at the time. Cant decide between Spanish or Italian, well this place has the best of both worlds! Loved the service, ambiance, and vibes here too. 'Crostini': Papaya and prosciutto!? Works so well, it was savory and sweet, and then you have that nice crunch from the bread, I can see why people really like this! 'Prosciutto and Arugula Pizza': this is always a good and safe option for sharing! Loved the nice char on the bottom. Don't forget to add the side of chili oil, it added so much flavor and made it even better! 'Carbonara with Portabella Fritto': pasta tasted a bit undercooked.. wasn't expecting the mushrooms to be crispy but they added a nice crunch. Such a great place to come for italian/spanish food. My favorite dish is there seafood paella, its a good portion (could even share it). They also have good appetizers. I would recommend getting a reservation if possible as they can get crowded. I also love that they have a mocktail section if you don't drink alcohol. They're parking lot is valet only for $5, otherwise there is street parking, or parking in the shopping center across the street. read more

Since 2020, I used to walk-in and get take-out of my absolutely favorite dish, the arrabiatta with smoked mozzarella! Fun fact: I can't eat spicy food, so the chefs make it with good ol' tomato sauce, non-spicy handmade pasta, and no chili peppers, and it's amazing with the smoked mozzarella! While they don't offer take-out anymore (a bummer, but it's ok), it hasn't stopped me from coming in and eating my favorite dish! Good spot if you're in the mood for Spanish food, which I've never really had before. I wouldn't necessarily say this place is 'fusion' as the menu sort of separates your Spanish and Italian options. However, it is tapas style, which I really like. We came here on a friday evening with a reservation we made two weeks ago. Seated after a five minute wait. Service was really great without being too intrusive, and the restaurant itself had a cool vibe. We were seated by the kitchen, but there was also private seating in the back (including a vault!) and bar seating as well. Food was decent, value was ok. We ended up spending a little over $100 for two entrees and three tapas. Not crazy expensive, but I will say the portions were rather small. That was just enough for two of us. Seafood Pealla - (A+). This was the best dish for us. Tasty, flavorful, and the shrimp was juicy! Half Caesar Salad - (A-). It was a salad, so it's hard to give it an incredibly high rating. But it had some flavor to it, and I think it's a great tapa choice. Salmon Marinto - (B+). Tasty but not sure I would get it again. Pulpo - (B+). Tasty, but chewy. Vongole with Brussel Sprouts - (C). Cant really recommend this one. Pricey, light, not really tasty and best way I can describe it is under seasoned. YMMV! Finally had time today to check out Rigo Italian/Spanish restaurant. Located on Kapahuluu Ave the old Genki sushi directly across from Safeway . Ample parking available their own private lot right next door to the restaurant. During lunch hour no reservations required but during Dinner reservation highly recommended. The food is different compared to other Italian restaurants I been to. I guess their chicken Alfredo I had was more a brown gravy style versus white cream sauce . I've only ever been to Rigo for dinner time. But came for Easter brunch at 11:30 on a Sunday. It was the first reservation and we were the first or second table in the restaurant. The restaurant did fill up throughout the lunch/brunch hour. From what I remembered at dinner time, the appetizers were very good. For this lunch menu they had the same appetizers available. we crostinis, pork belly tacos, calamari, Shishido, peppers, and the garlic bread. The pork belly tacos were very tiny, but pot. A good flavor, the outside of the taco was not an actual tortilla, but a radish wrapping, which was nice and crunchy. The crostinis were mascarpone with prosciutto, melon, and honey, and it was exquisite! We ordered another full order because even though it was bite-size, it was fabulous. The garlic bread was so garlicky and buttery that we also ordered another round of bread. The calamari was calamari steak with an aïoli and a spicier sauce, which both delicious. And the peppers were nicely salted, but not spicy at all, which was nice. For the entrées, we ordered the chicken and beans paella, the crab & shrimp paella, and two Bismarck pizzas. The flavor of the shrimp and crab Pao was delicious. Not too salty, but a nice flavoring with lots of seafood. The shrimps were big and good portion size. The chicken paella was pretty good also. The Bismarck pizza is my favorite because it comes with truffle oil and a poached egg that you can crack on top to make it run. For dessert, we tried the cheesecake, the Catalana custard, and the Cassata ice cream cake. The cheesecake was not bad. You have to eat it with the apples and black sesame that tops the dish. The Catalana custard was just like a crème brûlée. Pretty good. But the Casada ice cream cake was delicious! It was rich and decadent and not too sweet, came with ice cream on top of the ice cream cake. We also ordered the espresso martinis which was paired nicely with the dessert selection because it was smooth and tasty. What really stood out to me was the service. The staff was very attentive and cleared dishes in a very timely manner. The staff was very friendly and pleasant, they did not rush us at all, and made excellent recommendations. One of our guests spilled their champagne and within seconds, three staff members responded with napkins, new plates, and also a brand new glass of champagne which was complimentary! BEWARE OF THIS RESTAURANT! We were so disappointed! This restaurant can't accommodate shellfish allergies. Three of us have a shellfish allergy. Usually we can get around allergies by choosing pasta. However, they cook shrimp in the pasta water and since they use the same water for all pasta (they don't change it - just add more water) we couldn't have the pasta. We talked to the waitress and the manager. He would not consider taking a clean pot and boiling fresh water to cook our pasta! What's crazy is that it says that the pasta is vegan but it can't be vegan if it is cooked with the shellfish! THIS IS FALSE and MISLEADING ADVERTISING!! And, it could cause a terrible reaction in a person allergic to shellfish without knowing it! The waitress said they've been asked about this from many people. So if that's so, then they should change the way they cook or offer the pasta. The manager said it's the way they do it and the kitchen is too busy to cook it any other way. I looked around. It wasn't that busy because it was a Thursday night. It's possible they were being exclusive and probably didn't like we came in the restaurant in shorts and not dressed up. I'm not sure but it did seem the waitress and the manager was a little put off and patronizing us by our insistence of accommodating the allergy correctly. Came by here for an evening valentines day reservation. The restaurants reservation system is a little jacked, so I would call instead of using the online system if you encounter issues. For example, we desired a seat for 4, but there was only a reservation available for a table for 2. I pushed no further, and didnt bother calling. Anyways, service was excellent and food was pretty good too. We had the Seafood Paella, Salmon Marinato, Vongole with Brussels Sprouts, Pulpo, and half Caesar Salad. These two entrees and three tapas were just enough for 2, and we certainly dont eat a ton. Portions are small but tasty. They serve a very nice little side Caesar salad with a thin slice of ham if you order the daily lunch special. We tried two of the paellas and they were not like any paella I have had previously. Previous paellas I have eaten have had rice with a saffron sauce. The rice in these paellas seemed to have some sort of brown sauce and was just covering the bottom of the serving dish in a flat layer. The pasta dish was better. We tried some of the mocktails. They were sweet and colorful. Service 5/5 stars Our server was pleasant and attentive. Facility 4/5 Bright with lots of windows, impressive entrance decor, bar and kitchen are open to the dining room (so you can see the pizzas being made) Although the restaurant is sort of formal, the tables have your knives, forks, and spoons in a box on the table-for you to set your own table-sort of a casual touch. Tables are fairly spaced, so diners are not crowded together. In spite of a nice high ceiling, it was fairly noisy even when less than half full. Was excited to share this place with my daughter visiting from college. Husband, son and I had had a good experience with our first visit. I'm gluten sensitive and appreciated that they have gluten free items on their menu. The thing to know if you are celiac or extremely sensitive is that their pasta and gluten free pasta are boiled in the same water. The fried items are in shared fryers. We were seated promptly and the first server said she would be our server until our real server showed up for her shift. I asked her about what items I could have that were gluten free. She went to check for me in the kitchen. Then another server came by and said our previous person was busy and she could help us. I told her about the gluten sensitivity and she told me pretty confidently that I could have the fried items in the appetizer menu because they were in separate fryers. So I felt pretty happy. Then our first server came back to take our orders and said no, I can't have the fried items and basically I can have the caprese salad with sauce on the side and the tortilla and paella. Well. That was fine. I remembered that the tortilla was good the last time I had it. I ordered the king crab paella, my daughter got the seafood paella. Son ordered pasta bolognese and husband ordered a truffle pizza. The food does take a while to come out. The calamari appetizer was the highlight of the meal. The crab in my paella had black spots on it and my mouth became itchy at the end of my meal. It's been over an hour since we left and my mouth is still itchy. There's a weird after taste in my mouth also. My daughter said her paella gave her a bad aftertaste too. My son said his pasta was like a Cheesecake Factory level pasta just not as big. Then our third server showed up for her shift and said she would be our server for the rest of the evening. She refilled our iced teas asked if we wanted dessert and collected our check. It was different from the attentive service we had received on a previous visit. I wasn't full when I left. Our total was about 242. We all walked out agreeing to not return. So three out of the four of us are expelling some fragrant gases from this meal. I was most disappointed in the dirtiness of the crab. I am not allergic to crab. My mouth itching is not a normal reaction I have to seafood. So I took off one star for the inconsistency of what I could eat, minus one star for having three different servers, minus one for serving less than quality seafood. But did we eat all our food? My co-worker lost a SB bet and the winner got lunch. I chose Rigo since I never been there and it's close to his branch on Kapahulu Ave. I ordered the Clam Aglio E Olio $24. Everything about this dish was perfect. The garlic was just right, they used a really good olive oil, seasoning was on point, the pasta cooked perfectly and the flavors were delicious. It came with a salad that had kale and I actually enjoyed the kale. It was softer than expected. The bread was toasted in the wood/fire brick oven and was probably the best bread I have ever eaten at an Italian restaurant. My co-worker had the Salmon Funghi Alfredo. This place is really good and I need to go back several more times to try other dishes. Service was second to none. The restaurant is large and clean. Parking is free and abundant. I'm so glad we got to try Rigo! We made reservations for a Friday night a few days prior and they only had a 4:30pm reservation time left but that was ok with us. It's on Kapahulu avenue right across from Safeway. The parking is valet only. When we got there, we were greeted and seated right away. Everyone was so nice. Our server was excellent. They has regular tables but we were seated on the tables with a couch on one side. It was a very interesting set up but fun to try something different. It's very cute inside. I got the bolognese which I was looking forward to. And my husband got the seafood paella. We both loved our dishes and would go back and probably order the exact same things! We also got the garlic Parmesan bread and kale salad to start. Those were also delicious. We also had some wine to go with dinner and everything was great. They also have a cocktail and mocktail menu which sound very good too. But we might have to try those another time. We had a great experience and look forward to going back again soon! read more

This place is PHENOMENAL. Everything was so incredibly flavorful!! This was our first time here and they did not disappoint. We have been searching for a nice Spanish tapas place on the island and I'm so glad we found a solid one! Where do I even begin with this review LOL (words just can't describe how tasty every dish was). We made reservations over the phone prior to coming here. Parking out front is valet only. Our waiter was very welcoming and gave us his best recommendations. Staff were very attentive and service was surprisingly quick! The noise level can be a bit loud, but that didn't bother us as everyone seemed to be having a great time (; The sangria was perfectly sweet and refreshing. My family and I especially loved the crostini which had a bit of the island flare with the papaya~ The hit of the night though was the verdure fritte which came with a creamy and spicy aioli--so ono brah! We also got a chocolate fudge-like walnut dessert which I can't quite remember the name of, but we all loved it; the chocolate wasn't overly sweet despite it being served with vanilla ice cream, and the nuts were slightly charred which gave the dessert a unique flavor. To start, the food and waitress service were excellent, but the manager really rubbed my group the wrong way. I went for lunch on a Friday with a larger party and we had a reservation for 11:30 which is when the restaurant opens, so it wasn't super busy. The manager, however, made a point to tell us that it is usually required for larger parties to order ahead so the kitchen can accommodate. This would have been no problem for us, but we were notified less than two days before the reservation and with busy schedules and work it was difficult to get in touch with everyone for a preorder. If this was made clear when the reservation was made it would have been no problem, but instead we were greeted with attitude from the manager at the door! Not a fun start. Now for the food.... The fun part! The food was excellent. I got the scallop pasta special which came with a salad. Both were flavorful and quite filling for a lunch. I also tried the garlic bread which was tasty and the raspberry sorbet for dessert. The sorbet wasn't my favorite, but I heard the coffee ice cream was great! Our waitress was extremely friendly as well and took care of all of our orders no problem. Parking fills fast at any time of day but there is valet at night and street parking, just be prepared. The restaurant is fairly upscale, but nothing too fancy and (other than the manager) has a very welcoming vibe! I am normally not one to complain often, but I also don't like to be met with attitude for something that could have been prevented or nicely said! I've been here once before and that carbonara with the fried portobello mushrooms is award worthy! I came here today with 6 friends for dinner. Everything was delicious. We had a lot of different tapas, and none were bad. My favorite was the fried zucchini, calamari, and eggplant melanzane. The garlic crostini was so buttery and delicious. I got the carbonara which was just as good as I remembered. The rigatoni bolognese was another favorite, and so was the Gorgonzola. There were no complaints. Our servers were Jace and Daniel, they both were friendly and efficient. As we are all getting our bills at the end of the meal, the manager comes to the table and asks about a specific car type and if one of us are the owners. It happened to be one in our group. They were told a drunk driver hit their car in the valet lot and the police were there. We all settle our checks and get their stuff to go, their check was still there because again they were dealing with their car being hit! As they are trying to get their insurance and everything figured out, the manager runs out to them with the check to pay. Bad timing! He could have waited because they clearly weren't going anywhere, and a gesture of good will would have been to cover their meal. Was it the restaurants fault that a drunk driver hit their car? Of course not! But at least show you care about your customers and are compassionate about a really bad situation. It left a sour taste in all of our mouths and we won't be back. read more

Made reservations here for Valentine's Day, about a month ago, and so glad we did. First off, there's $5 valet parking, or free street metered parking after 5pm. Valet guy was sooo nice btw. As soon as we entered, the restaurant had really cool vibes and decor. We ordered these: Crostini - this was a perfect 4 piece appetizer for the 2 of us, a bit small but the flavors in this work so well together, from the sweetness of papaya and honey, with the salty and savory prosciutto on a piece of bread. Funghi Pizza - basically like an upscale mushroom pizza - very good, and the bready part was amazingly good. Arrabbiata with Smoked Mozzarella Pasta - this was so simple and delicious. The texture of the pasta was perfectly al dente. Basque Cheesecake - we weren't going to do dessert, but we were convinced by our lovely server, and glad we did. It's a perfect cheesecake, not too sweet, and satisfying. In general the portions are on the smaller side, but it was perfect for the two of us and glad we got to try 4 of their items. Pizza Bismark: the crust was crispy and chewy with a fresh egg in the middle. The right amount of toppings. The server also gave us a chili oil to drizzle on the pizza. Desserts! Out of this world!!! Basque cheesecake and chocolate cassata. I would recommend both. If only it came with a bigger portion, I would have made it my main course! Parking was valet only. Rigo is one of my favorite places to eat in Honolulu. The service is always exceptional. My favorite dishes are the Grilled Pulpo, and Bolognse. Can't wait to enjoy another dinner soon. read more

Service was good (from the hostess to the server); the reason for the 2 stars was because of the food quality. Personally, I think this place is highly overrated (after hearing everyone rave about it) and that there are other restaurants that offer better Italian cuisine. Being a person that had part time jobs at a handful of Italian restaurant, I was quite indifferent about the portion size and the taste of the Bolognese and the other dishes that we ordered. Would I go back? Probably not. I'd rather find myself at some random hole in the wall Italian restaurants around the island. Those, in my opinion, are usually better in term of quality and quantity. My review is base off the Italian cuisine and not the Spanish cuisine that they offer. Also, it states that their dress attire is casual, but the amount of tourists that I saw in the place with swim shorts and slippers were astounding.
