The fresh bread was served nice and hot with butter or vinegar and oil. I usually just use butter but decided to try the vinegar and oil. That was a really good decision on my part. It was really good. I was surprised. For those of you who have had it before know what I'm talking about. It was like a light grape jelly. The bread with the oil and vinegar was so good i got another loaf. Yum. We decided to get the clams casino for our appetizer. That was winners. It was really delicious. Fresh Manila clams in a broth of butter, white wine, bacon, fresh spinach, mushroom, onions, and tomato. That's from the menu. All I know is that all of that put together was really ono. I wish I still had some more bread to soak up the sauce. Lol She chose the shrimp and scallop scampi. I chose the shrimp and scallop alla spinach. Been awhile since we been. Ma lives close so we met there since my niece was visiting and Ma wanted to have dinner. Pretty good. I had the pink. Tasty. Baby liked it too. My first time to this restaurant. I met a friend there for lunch. During the day it's not too busy which was ideal for catching up and not feeling rushed. I enjoyed the interesting food options of pasta with protein, fish, and fresh vegetables. I tried the Kinako Mushroom Pasta with bacon. It was light and easy to enjoy while having light conversation. The server did say that reservations are recommended. Dinner is quite busy. Homemade bread was served which was light and warm with oil and balsamic vinagrette or butter. We had choices for dessert but no room after enjoying our pasta. Oh yes, we had hamachi carpaccio which was fine in taste. Fish was smooth, light to our palette making room for us to enjoy our entree. Ambiance was ideal, no background music so we could have a conversation with friends. It was a little tricky to find, but we are glad that we located it on our second pass down the street. The food, service, & atmosphere were just right for our "travel day" lunch. We shared a house salad and then had the mushroom crostini. Everything on the salad was super-fresh. The creamy Italian dressing was good, too. The crostini was loaded with tasty mushrooms. The hot bread brought to our table was crusty on the outside and soft on the inside. Yummy! My hubby had linguini with meatballs for his entree and I had shrimp fettuccine Alfredo. We both enjoyed our meals and felt that the ingredients and the way that the food was prepared were top notch! At the end of our meal, we shared crème brûlée. Food was honestly really good, Got 3 food items and 1 dessert, the shrimp alla spinach, ribeye steak medium, chicken marsala, and creme brulee. All were great overall perfectly cooked! The neighborhood was a bit ghetto, but the restaurant was a gem. What drew me to this restaurant was that they called themselves an Italian "fusion" restaurant, and they served a bone marrow appetizer. Color me intrigued. When we arrived, we weren't greeted by a Mario, Sergio or Luigi. Instead, we were welcomed by Anne, an Asian lady. In fact, all the staff we encountered were Asian. My wife, who is Thai, said they were Vietnamese. We were told the daily specials and given the menus. We ordered a lasagna, a ribeye steak, a chicken piccata and the aforementioned bone marrow. The lasagna, for $23, was absolutely huge. It was stuffed with ricotta cheese and meat sauce. My daughter could barley make a dent in it, but she raves about how it tasted. The steak was bathed in butter wine sauce and smothered under a heaping pile of onions and mushrooms. They didn't quote the size of the steak, but the fact that I couldn't finish it would suggest it was more than 12oz. I asked for rare, and they nailed it. The chicken piccata was breaded chicken breast served with linguine in garlic white wine lemon butter sauce. The Beef Bone Marrow appetizer was an unusual treat. We've never had it before, so I was very curious. It felt so primal to be eating the marrow of an animal. Fatty, juicy and rich would be how I can best describe it. Weekly office lunch was decided for Italian so we made a large take out order same day pick up at La Ciccia. Service was extremely kind and fast. Ambience is nice quiet and modern seating. Food was absolutely delicious! Pastas were the highlight as everyone got something different but were all equally impressed. Highlights go to the kinoko pasta and the meatball linguini. Price is fairly reasonable. I would have gave five stars but unfortunately I ordered the bone marrow and it came out looking like the attached picture. It was over cooked and only had enough marrow for one bite. The flavor was off putting and I was extremely disappointed with what I got for the price I paid. I love bone marrow and always get it when I see it on the menu. However this experience was probably the worse bone marrow I had. They were packed on a Saturday night, the night before Mother's Day. Mushroom crostini: The toasted bread was good, thin and crunchy but not too hard. The mushroom and cheese were fragrant and savory. Wished there were more mushrooms on top. Fried mozzarella cheese: The breading was good. The cheese was gooey. There's marinara sauce in the side that helps add more flavor to the cheese. Calamari fritti: This was like squid sticks. The breading was good and crispy. Mentaiko pasta: The mentaiko pasta was alright but not the best I've had. The pasta sauce was creamy but there weren't enough mentaiko. It was more cheesy and milky in taste. This does not taste good after a day for leftover. Seafood combo with red house marinara: Not really a fan of "red" sauce for pasta. The marinara sauce was light and has a little kick to it. In the heart of Moiliili located in the same building that houses other eateries such as Bangkok Chef, Sushi Ginza Onodera, Izakaya Naru as well as USPS is La Ciccia which is a hole-in-the-wall Italian restaurant. We've been here a handful of times and it comes with mixed reviews. This place is a hidden gem as we drive past this place all the time and wouldn't have even thought about coming here until we were invited to join some friends. While I want to say everything was perfect, my inner voice has to come out and say while we liked many things, it all wasn't great every time we came here. The first time, we had excellent service... very attentive, our waters were never empty and we never had to hunt down our server. The next two times were a little different, the service seemed really slow. It took what seemed forever to place our orders. It was a good thing we had good company to keep us occupied as our tummies were rumbling. I do have to point out that there are only two waitstaff working for the whole restaurant. I would think that they might hire another person to work on the weekends as that seems to be their busiest times and I can't stress enough to make reservations especially on weekends as they are pretty packed. One person brought a very nice bottle of wine which accompanied the food very nicely, however the corkage fee of $30 per bottle was a meh in my book, especially since they don't offer that bottle there. Other places charge a little less especially when they don't offer a particular wine. The better half, friends, and family really enjoyed the escargot ($15) as they are slow baked in a bleu cheese and butter blend that makes you want to grab bread and dip it into the slots of where the escargot sat and wow it is delicious. The lasagna, was ok, nothing to write home about. I guess I'm more used to some homemade ones where the filling is a little more generous and even the taste is better. The better half loves NY Steak and she said the first time was better than the second as she likes it medium rare and the second time it came out more well done. Told her to send it back but she was hangry so she just ate it. The calamari was spot on. It was cooked to perfection as well as the mushroom crostini and their tomato bruschetta was to die for. We all gobbled up the appetizers. I enjoyed seafood combo as it had scallops, shrimp, and clams inside a garlic butter while wine sauce with pasta. YUM!!! Never tried any desserts as we were way too full from the appetizers and our entrees. Second time here in a month. Docked a star because we while we were extremely pleased with the service and most of the food, we were very disappointed with how the veal was cooked. First all the good reviews: Bread continues to be awesome though it took longer to come out than the first time we were here. We had made reservations for 10 so it was not a surprise that we were coming. Best bread ever even though we had to wait for it. We actually had to order more bread because our entrees took a while to come out. (We opted not to get any appetizers since we knew the entree portions would be large.) Lasagna was huge! Two people shared it with a chicken salad and still had leftovers. Two had the special Chicken Carbonara and it was amazing, served with a raw egg yolk that you mix into the sauce yourself, it was extra creamy and the bacon flavor was awesome. The linguine Garlic shrimp had plenty of shrimp and was completely devoured. The three veal dishes ordered were Veal Parmigiana, Veal Piccata, and Veal Saltimboca. Flavor of the sauces were perfect, pasta was cooked to perfection, however what should be the star of the dish - the veal, was overcooked and dry in all of the dishes. Dry veal is a terrible waste of a delicate meat. Because it was a large group I didn't say anything but definitely would have if it had just been hubby and me. He had the Parmigiana and I had the Saltimboca so it wasn't just one of the veal dishes. Hence the docked Star - Could have been and should have been another five star experience but sadly, it wasn't. The veal dishes were really only 3 star but because the other dishes were on point and 5 star I averaged it to a 4 star experience. There was just one server who was working very hard to accommodate all guests. The owner helped to bring the food out and was personable. The food was tasty. Had mushrooms, calamari, house salad. Glass of wine, bottled beer. There is a corkage fee if you BYOB. Bread was hot and helped to bridge our appetite while waiting for our entree. Creme brûlée was tasty, but size is certainly not for sharing Fair is fair the food was tasty. Just be prepared to be patient because it took some time for our food to get prepared. Very clean, airy, modern room. Good Italian "style" cuisine with excellent service. The 4 of us went there for Mother's Day. The place was completely filled but the service was spot on. On the menu, you will find some of the quintessential ingredients that anchor Italian cuisine like pasta, tomatoes, homemade marinara sauce, mozzarella and parmesan. But noticeably absent were some of the key supporting herbal flavors like basil, rosemary, oregano and capers. In fact the menu leaned heavily on butter which probably explained the F word in their name. Overall it ate more like French cuisine with pasta. Of the 4 appetizers we ordered, our favorite was definitely the Clams Casino - Fresh manila clams sautéed/simmered in a broth of butter white wine, bacon, fresh spinach, mushroom, onions, and tomato. Wonderful balance between the rich butter and crisp white wine. The clams soaked up the earthy flavors of the mushrooms while the onions added a bit of sweetness and pungency. The Escargot - Large escargots slow baked in bleu cheese, Italian parsley, olio blend. Very tender but on the rich side. Could've used some white wine or acids to brighten it up. Raw Oyster with Ikura - Fresh with a slight vegetal flavor. The ikura added a nice natural salty umami. Fried Mozzarella- The well seasoned light crisp breading added a wonderful contrast to the creamy gooey comforting interior. For the main 4 main courses... The dishes were proportionately generous so you may consider sharing. The taste overall was rather one note...butter. With the exception of the lasagne where the homemade marinara sauce won the day, the Seafood Pasta, Chicken Saltimbocca, and King Salmon Pasta were quite rich with butter and lacked the signature herbal flavorings of Italian cuisine. Andiamo! A phrase that was frequently used when I worked at an Italian restaurant and though there are many ways to use this word...all are directed towards La Ciccia in McCully. Where...?! Exactly located on South King Street as this hidden gem is quite hidden as it's easier to see the "open" neon sign which is right above the restaurant sign in the window and they are located between Glazer's Coffee and Bangkok Chef so yes there is a small parking lot and some street parking as well. Reservations is recommended as it's very cozy and not much seating though we did get lucky to arrive early enough to grab a seat. Probably about a dozen tables besides the bar top the inside decor is simple yet but nice and what's better...the menu! Love that they have some Japanese fusion here with Mentaiko Pasta, Natto Pasta and totally recommend Kinoko (Mushrooms in Japanese) Pasta. We started with the Fried Mozzarella Cheese $11 comes with four pieces and a side of marinara it was hot and fresh with insane cheese pull it was just a fresh bite that got our taste buds in heaven, along with a house bread served with a pat of butter with olive oil and balsamic vinegar though the bread was served on a trifold napkin the rustic vibe here is shrugged off as the prices makes it all worth while. We got the Kinoko Pasta which is a Japanese fusion and the sauce not noted on the menu is like a light shoe butter sauce which was so very light and compliment the mushrooms perfectly, the other is Eggplant Parmigiana and this insanely cheesy covered eggplant was done just right and it seems like the have just linguine shaped pasta which is straightforward and simple but the volume is quite impressive here as we couldn't finish it and took home about half of our entrees. The first house bread is free and it's +$2 for additional bread and for some appetizers like Clams Casino and Sicilian Sausage you can add pasta to make it an entree is a cool option for sure, this casual dining experience serves up some bougie dishes and love that there's this Italian option right here in my hood...Ciao!
