Ordered the lomo saltado and wow--this was comfort food done right. The beef was tender, juicy, and perfectly stir-fried, with that signature smoky wok flavor. The onions and tomatoes were cooked just right--soft but still vibrant--and everything was coated in a savory, slightly tangy sauce that soaked beautifully into the rice. And the fries? My friend ordered a water and a plastic jug was brought out and there was grime all over the lid which made us not even want to drink from it. The steak was very tender and juicy. My friend ordered a salad and never actually got it, eventually someone asked if we were okay (he probably noticed she wasn't eating) but at that point, we were ready to leave. I had to remind them to remove the salad from our tab too! The service was just very lackluster. The prices on the menu weren't actually what was charged, which it says at the top they are subject to change but I feel it should just be updated on the menu? They also validate parking for only one hour but that's about how long it takes for them to take your order and get your food to you, so keep that in mind! Two very small pieces of chicken thighs with bones and was 80% rice. Rice was tasty but chicken was very underdone and so none of it was safe to eat. For that price , the tiny pieces of chicken should be cooked. Also the chicken looked bland compared to the nice coloring in their advertising. Shame on me, Mimi's has been at this location since 2009 and only now I'm tasting how delicious their food is!! On a late Friday night, our party of five arrived to try dinner and most at our table never had Peruvian food before. We were seated at a long table nearest the front window, where Kathia went page by page of their picture menu to describe the ingredients and Peruvian flavors to first-timers. She is very patient and quite entertaining as well :) This was such a delicious experience! We started with the classic ceviche mahimahi with freshly squeezed lime. I've had ceviche before but Mimi's recipe is bold and full of spice. I loved this incredible appetizer and have a deeper appreciation for this Peruvian traditional dish. Will totally order this again! Another great appetizer was their yucca frita. A two-step process, they steam cassava root slices and then deep fry it. This was served with a cheesy spicy Peruvian dipping sauce, so good. Each slice was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Next we had the Jalea de Mariscos which had a nice variety of fried seafood. Everything from fish, calamari, shrimp, clams, and scallop was generously served on a long platter and topped with Mimi's salsa criolla (tasty relish of onions, garlic, chili peppers, and vinegar). So good, we ate it all!! Next we had the arroz con mariscos which was described as the Peruvian version of seafood paella. The rice was tender and full of flavor. The mixed seafood was also generous and seasoned well. We were getting full and packed up the leftover to enjoy later. Last but certainly not least, we tried their pesco de la macho or seafood stew. Such a rich and creamy sauce, full of flavor. I actually dipped the yucca fritas in this luscious sauce because I didn't want to waste it LOL. Again, another large portion that we couldn't finish so we packed up the leftover to enjoy later. For those of you that like hot chili spice, Mimi's rocoto sauce is no joke. Literally it is fire so if that's your grove, it is provided complimentary with their crackers before your meal is served. Our party loved this first-time dining at Mimi's. We met her too! Mimi's daughter and grandson are doing an excellent job to perpetuate her legacy of delicious Peruvian cuisine. Even though it was near closing time, they were super nice and didn't rush us out. My main dish was Tallarine Huancainos con Lomo and I chose chicken as the protein. It was cooked in a sauce with onion and man was it delicious. The other part of the dish was what I assume was the Lomo (I should have asked! The cook and owner were very nice. Great food and experience. Everything was cooked perfectly! Can't wait to go back. This restaurant did not come close to our expectations. Taste was very weak. The bad- the main entrees we ordered went to another table who ordered something similar but with different protein option. We wanted chicken but they gave us beef (the other table ordered beef. The flat steak (sheet of beef really) was cooked to hell, rubbery, dry and just plain bad. The lomo saltado never arrived and I just canceled it when paying the bill. The anticuchos- beef heart skewers were obnoxiously tart, like they marinated them in vinegar or citrus and nothing else. They were cooked wayyy too rare (like purple and past blue). The only saving grace was their shrimp stew/soup. It still tasted good but the portions for the price is ridiculous. I am so glad I came across Mimi's Peruvian Cuisine! I actually was headed to a Thai spot but when I saw Mimi's Peruvian nearby and checked the Yelp reviews, I changed my destination! I haven't had Peruvian food in a long time. Mimi"s is a small family owned restaurant. There's abput 7-8 tables. The service was friendly and energetic. I ordered the Lomo Saltado lunch. Portion size was enough for lunch but I had the option fot the larger dinner portion. Truthfully, i wouldnt have finished the dinner size. Tasty! Best Lomo Saltado I've had and I've eaten it at some Peruvian restaurants in NYC and San Diego. Hopefully I will get back to Mimi's before I leave Honolulu. I want to try at least one other dish. Our server was very friendly and brought over a dish of fried chips and two small dishes of (very spicy) Aji and Salsa Verde. (FYI, it's not free.) We ordered Seco De Carne (slow-cooked beef with beans and rice), Arroz Con Pollo (slow-cooked cilantro rice with two chicken thighs) and Tallarine Huancainos Con Pollo (pasta w/cheese and strips of chicken in Huancainos sauce). The food was well-seasoned and prepared properly. The beef in the Seco De Carne was very tender and the chicken in the Arroz Con Pollo remained moist. I loved the tallarine pasta; it was al dente and so flavorful. I also liked the heat of the aji (chili) and added it atop my chicken. The bill came to $65, excluding tip. We liked the food and wished Mimi's was located downtown. Bottom line: I would definitely want to return and can recommend Mimi's. read more

We ordered: *Arroz Con Pollo (Slow cooked chicken with cilantro pea rice) *Aji De Gallina (Shredded chicken breast in spicy parmesan cream with potato and rice) Only thing to keep in mind that sometimes there maybe some items that maybe not available or sold out so make sure to plan ahead for your meals. While waiting, the owner's kid (I think?) served us some complimentary pita chips with spicy salsa and spinach sour cream dip. Mmmm I just loved the way the chicken just easily melted off the bone and the rice was very fragrant and flavorful. I order the Tallarines Huancainos con Lomo al Jugo. I have never had it before and sounded pretty safe. I chose the chicken option but it seems you can get beef or vegetarian. I thought the chicken was ok and the pasta, while creamy, was spicy. The spice made it taste good but I couldn't pin point any other spices or flavorings. Lomo Saltado - steak with fries & rice - the meat was seasoned so well and the sauce super yummy! Tacu tacu con lomo al jugo- sautéed beef with a bean and rice mixture - I really liked this dish. There is no shortage of hospitality and great Peruvian home cooking here at Mimi's. Dined here the night before with my friend, a former food and beverage Director/Chef. We both love Peruvian cuisine, especially when it is served up with a heap of aloha ! We were so fortunate to meet and be taken care of by Katiya, Mimi's daughter and her associate/sister (regret we didn't get her name also.. very gracious), while Mimi was busy in the kitchen. From the moment we sat and were offered chips and two sauces (one a most memorable creamy green sauce and the other a spicy to the bone fire red hot sauce) we were in heaven. Seriously, we couldn't stop eating that creamy sauce long enough to look at for what we wanted to order ! Menu...by QR code or by inked menu. Too many things we thought we would love so friend asked the waitress to recommend. Besides the ceviche piqueo (sampling of three different ceviche with a mahimahi base), she recommended the seafood stew. This turned out to be Elton's favorite dish. We also ordered an order of tacu tacu which turned out to be my favorite dish. I am a sucker for crispy rice, and this one is mixed with beans to give it a tasty dish! The crispy bean and rice patty served with strips of tasty stir fried beef. Thank you Mimi, thanks you Kateya, for welcoming us into your restaurant. It was cozy and comfortable and we felt like we were being welcomed into your home. Loved the Christmas decorations which brightened up the restaurant. Dined here many times and have yet to have a bad experience. The food is amazing, the service is great, the portion size and value is phenomenal. I'm hesitant to write a glowing review because I like that it's easy to walk in and get a table, but at the same time I would hate for the place to go away due to not enough patronage. My absolute favorite dish is the tacu tacu con Lomo al jugo with beef. Just get it. Great flavors and textures all around. The calamari is also a great choice. The aji pasta was very buttery, kinda reminds me of the sauce I had in the dish aji de gallina when I was in Peru. The steak could be a little more tender but their sauce was amazing, very good with the sorta plain pasta. I don't care for the green pasta and steak at all. It's too much olive oil and I wasn't enjoying the pasta sauce. The ceviche had a really good flavor, on the tangy side. I wish the fish was not as cured because it's opaque white. I'd prefer it to be semi-translucent with a slightly raw texture. Overall it was an enjoyable meal! read more

Very very worth going. A true gem. Right in front of Sam's Club, has paid/validated parking, and the food ROCKS! Can't say it enough, FINALLY! It was generous with the shrimp and enjoyed the flavor. We wanted arroz con pollo and paid for that menu item but was called by restaurant and told that they ran out so they would make a dish with chicken, fried potatoes and rice. The seasonings were pretty good but the chicken was your basic Costco tenderloins which is a buzzkill when you were expecting pieces of chicken with cilantro rice. The Arroz Con Marisco, had a muscle in shell and one without kind of looked like a seafood mix you buy from Costco, 2 shrimps, 2 octopus legs (very tender and pretty good), fish ball, some squid segments, and imitation crab? Over soggy rice. For $25 I was hoping to get real crab like the photos on yelp and was disappointed to see imitation crab. My friend Katinka and I wanted to try some new cuisine, and Mimi's Peruvian popped up on Yelp. We've never had Peruvian food before so this was a big, why not? So we did. Located in the same area as Sikdorak/Kickin Cajun on Keeamoku, you will see this hole in the wall area facing the main road. We parked in the same lot as if you're going to sikdorak and we got validated after dining in. The inside is quite small but the workers were friendly and got to us right away. It wasn't busy at all so we were seated and they handed us menus. There were pictures on the menu which I appreciated a lot considering I had never heard of any of the foods listed! We ordered the Arroz con Mariscos (which was like a seafood fried rice) and Aji de Gallina (which was shredded chicken mixed in Parmesan cream, with egg and rice). The wait wasn't too long or bad because they gave us a short snack of consisting of pita chips with a salsa dip and a sour cream spinach dip (which was really yummy--wish we had more chips!). Both dishes came out in a good presentation. The Arroz con mariscos reminded me of Paella! There was a lot of different seafood chunks in terms of octopus, fish balls, crab, and they all came together well. The aji de Gallina was quite interesting....I did not NOT like it. It was like blending pasta to make a sauce and then mixing in chicken. I actually liked how it tasted after a couple of bites, however, that paired with the arroz con Mariscos just ended up being too much mushy food for our taste. I think it would have suited better on a crunchy baguette. Overall, interesting experience! Would love to come back and try other things on the menu. Finally had a chance to visit Mimi's this past weekend. 1. Location: Mimi's is conveniently located in the building next door to Ross as you walk towards Ala Moana shopping center. Two-hours free parking. 2. Tiny restaurant but nice and cozy fitting 8 tables while Latin music playing got my sister chair dancing along with friendly staff willing to answer questions when you just aren't familiar with the cuisine. 3. Everything is expensive in HI but the price is reasonable because of it. Inka Kola was $5 which is hard to get in HI and I just had to have it because it's just a Peruvian thing, so I've heard. 4. OMG! The food. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. I had the pesto dish but instead of steak, they accommodated my request for chicken instead. Thank you Chef! My sister had the seafood dish that she truly enjoyed. I was surprised as to the amount and kinds of seafood in the dish. Thank you Mimi's for the hospitality. The ambiance was decent enough. The service was nice, our server was a nice older lady, the food not recommended. It's $22 & up $$ per plate. They give you pita chips and dip upon entrance as complimentary. We chose water for drinks, she brought us a pitcher and three SMALL disposable cups. Ok there was 3 of us plus a toddler, she said no cup for my toddler because it will only be played with and broken. Fair enough, but when my 17 month old wants to drink out of our cups and then leaves food in it, none of us will drink from it. So I had to later ask her for another cup, this time I feel like she slighted me. She gave me another SMALL disposable cup handed it to me UPSIDE DOWN- it was CLEAR AS DAY broken & cracked- absolutely broken cup!. I had to ask her to replace it because no one will share a cup to drink w my toddler. We needed another cup for drinking, why give me a broken cup!.? We ordered three dishes; lomo saltado, tallarines verdes con bistec apanado, and lamb w rice and beans- can't remember the plate name. The tallarines verdes were OK at best, the lomo saltado needed more tomates,- but was greatbut nonetheless. the rice was ehh kinda dry and flavorless. I hate to say this, but the beans were rotten. When I addressed the rotten beans, they claimed it was too much EVOO that was used. They were very friendly and offered me a diff dish, I asked for plantains, they were out. This is a small spot worth a visit. The ceviche is fresh. The fried yucca was a bit uneven on this particular night but is one of my favorites, especially when it's salted just right. The shrimp soup (chupe de camarones) comes in a generous portion. The prices are very reasonable. Always fun to try some dishes here. Delicious food. Nice people. Clean and inviting atmosphere. Pasta was good steak was super tender and soft. Didn't take pictures but the empanadas were 10/10 however wish they were either a little bigger or came with three instead of two. They give a complimentary pita chips and dip. The green sauce was amazing however the red sauce was super spicy. The whole family is very nice and accommodating and will help you understand the menu if you do not know what the food is or what to order. Would definitely be coming back! In the busy area outside of Ala Moana, There is a gem of Peruvian deliciousness called Mimi's Peruvian Cuisine. The decor is reminiscent of family-owned Latin restaurants and the dishes are the reflection of generations past. Prior to this review, I had only tasted Mexican and Puerto Rican dishes. Peruvian dishes are rich in flavor like most Latin dishes with influences of Italian from what I noticed on the menu that had a show and tell picture book accompaniment. My friend and I started with the emapanadas (one cheese and one beef), it was pleasantly grand and savory with a slight sweetness due to the dusting of powdered sugar. We also had their version of salsa & guacamole and chips. There salsa was not as thick but has quite a spicy kick and the other dip was a spinach cream. It complimented the spice of the previous sauce. This was followed by the main courses of Arroz con Mariscos and Arroz con Pollo. The Arroz con Mariscos is very flavorful & rich and not for the faint of stomach. It is similar to Paella with soft-shell crab, fresh shrimp and scallops. The Arroz con Pollo is definitely flavorful and true recommendation for all first-timers. No meal is complete without having dessert, The cinnamon churros with honey sauce is a nice a d refreshing way to complete any meal. Stopped by this place for dinner on a whim. Small quaint setting, friendly staff, great service. Was not sure what to order and took a recommendation from the staff. Food was great, felt like a "home-cooked" meal. As I waited, I noticed the other plates coming out of the kitchen for other guests, every one of them looked delightful and tasty.
