We tried the dumplings and shishito peppers which were tasty and presented equally as well as the drinks. Your hao peng you (good friend) on Yelp is sending you a sign to check this hidden gem out! ;)…read more As someone of Taiwanese descent, I always get SO excited discovering Taiwanese restaurants and bars, which are admittedly a bit hard to find if you're not in East LA. We stopped by late Saturday night and were able to snag an immediate walk-in at the bar at Hao Peng You, which is the intimate speakeasy portion of Midnight Oil. The decor definitely reminded me of my grandparents' house in Taiwan, with vintage, ornate wooden chairs, dragon/lion statue carvings, and even a historic century old marital bed that had been repurposed into a booth. The drinks were also VERY unique, with my favorite being Hua sheng (literally meaning peanut), which was crafted from a nostalgic childhood peanut milk drink. All our cocktails were crafted very well, to the point where I thought they were a bit on the lighter side since I couldn't really taste the alcohol. This section does get really busy though and only had one bartender who is making/serving drinks and taking orders, so do expect a bit of a wait. Overall, highly recommend checking out this vibey vintage Taiwanese-inspired speakeasy (that my inner history nerd was so excited about), and I'll definitely be back to try their food items as well as their two other bar/restaurant concepts!

She looks like Pocahontas, serves beer like it's an Olympic sport, and somehow manages to keep a smile on her face even after telling you she's got **seven kids** JJ (yes, seven -- and she still has more energy than anyone else in the room). She's got a **sarcastic sense of humor** that'll keep you laughing even if your team's losing, and if you bring up **bowling or NASCAR**, buckle up -- you're in for a conversation you won't forget. Whether she's pouring your favorite brew or roasting you for ordering "fancy wine" at a sports pub, Jessica makes every visit a good time. Bottom line: come for the beer, stay for Jessica's charm, wit, and world-class sarcasm.

Management obviously knew about a leak and decided the best way to go about it would be to cover the ceiling with a trash bag. If this is how they address serious health code issues, I don't even want to know what's going on behind the scenes with their food and drink practices. Yelp doesn't allow 0 stars, so I'll settle for 1. I look forward to the LB health department getting back to my complaint.

I was in Long Beach for a bit and asked Gemini for a local recommendation. Even though I've been to LBX dozens of times, I had no idea this gem existed. We decided to celebrate my son's birthday at The 908 and really glad we did. The restaurant has a…read moremodern look and felt welcoming. We had a reservation for six and the hostess greeted us and sat us right away. Our server, Nate, was fantastic. He knew the menu and answered all of our questions. He even explained how some of the drinks were made. Later we found out he was actually one of the bartenders helping out as a server for the night. Which made sense considering how well he knew how the drinks were made. He was attentive and checked on us often to make sure everything was going well. One thing that made him stand out was, he actually conversed with us rather than just asking if we needed anything and then leaving. The Old Fashioned was one of the smoothest and best I've probably ever had. My nephew ordered the Ube Painkiller after Nate described how it was made. I had a sip, and the ube flavor really came through without overpowering the drink and it was perfectly matched with the dark rum, which Nate said came from the Caribbean. The Brussels sprouts had a nice mix of tender and crispy pieces that gave additional texture. The calamari was tender and the pesto style sauce paired real good with it. The Thai curry sea bass was flavorful, flaky, and had the right amount of spice. The cioppino had a rich shellfish flavor in the broth and I appreciated that the tomato base didn't have such an acidic taste. We also shared the tomahawk, which was juicy, cooked perfectly, and had a sprinkle of coarse salt that really brought out the flavor. Overall, we had a great experience. The food was excellent, but Nate's service really made our night special, making us feel right at home.

The indoor and outdoor seating areas are very spacious, which is a plus for me. Even though it was moderately busy the night we went, the outdoor area still felt spacious enough to offer an intimate vibe while we enjoyed our drinks. The service was nice; the staff were attentive and friendly. You pay at the counter for your drinks and take them back to your seat, just like at a standard bar. I'm not sure if I should be relieved that I didn't order any food that day after reading some reviews. I've seen some people complain about sanitary measures and the temperature/quality of the food here. Hmm... next time I stop by, I'll probably just grab drinks and then head over to In-N-Out lol. On another note, the drinks were good! I forgot which IPA I had, but it was nice. My boyfriend went for his usual michelada, which he enjoyed. Overall, SoCal Vibes is a laid-back, industrial-style brewery that offers a spacious, dog-friendly outdoor seating area. For that reason alone, I'll probably be back soon. I'd recommend this spot to anyone in the area looking for a chill place to grab drinks. Cheers!
