Was in the mood for some Mexican Seafood. It is hard to find one in Long Beach, the good ones is usually in paramount, south gate, Wilmington, Whittier etc.. I just googled this one and it took me to this place in the Long Beach downtown district area, Long Beach Blvd + 7th st. Surprisingly there was no other customers inside this restaurant. We were greeted and seated. Handed out some cold Tortillas chips with salsa. Went straight to the punch! Ordered a bowl of Pozole, Campechana Cocktail, asasda tacos, and los Buches drink. Our order came out quickly since we were the only ones in there. Tacos Asada was ok. The Campechana was ok, small shrimps and alot of imitation crab inside. The pozole was ok as well. Overall the food was just average to me. The Campechana was alittle disappointing, for the cost of $23.99, it was quite overrated. You would think that the shrimp would be alittle bigger and only one oyster Overall, I would come back to try ala carte items only. Tacos and Tostadas. If this place would be full capacity, you might have to park on the busy street. I would not recommend that because the street is very busy. There are a few parking spots in the back specifically for this restaurant. This place is big. Has beautiful decor and has an interesting Club vibe to it. By the way this place does not turn into a club. This restaurant has alot of potential to be successful. Its just the location of this restaurant, it can be alittle sketchy at night. Large Mexican restaurant in downtown Long Beach, specializing in seafood. We had a show next door, so decided to finally stop by Mariscos Los Buchones for dinner beforehand on a Thursday. We walked, but did see later that they have ample parking to the north with reserved spots for the restaurant (clearly marked and enterable via the alley). It is located on the NW corner of 7th and Long Beach Blvd, and has tinted glass so one can't see inside from the street (we've walked by this location many times, and it just looks closed). But inside, it is quite nice: spacious with plenty of different types of seating, and opportunity for quite a few more if needed...or even a banquet party if necessary. There are dedicated speakers throughout as well, and it was blaring music (in Spanish) throughout. It was empty when we came at 6, so plenty of places to sit were there. Got a booth near a window, and quickly realized the great views of Long Beach on 7th Street (the Metro goes through Long Beach Blvd and 7th Street is a very busy (and fast) thoroughfare), via the tinted, one-way glass. Just sitting there in such a nice environment, naturally ups your expectations. We were given complementary chips and salsa immediately when we sat down, and both were very solid. Seafood can be expensive and a bit risky if you are going to be sitting still for the next 3 hours, so we went conservative. Wife had the 3 taquitos dinner ($13.99) with shredded beef, and she found it to be quite good. It was freshly made, topped with mishmash of vegetables and crema. The rice was good, and I really liked the refried beans (I finished it, which I rarely do). I really wanted seafood, so decided to order a sample of all 4 of their seafood tacos a la carte: none of them stood out. The Estilo Ensenada ($3.99) has choice of fish or shrimp: I ordered the shrimp but got the fried fish instead, which turned out to be just fine. It had the most toppings of all of the tacos, served openfaced, and it was good. The Enchilado Con Queso ($4.5) was openfaced with shrimp, a very hot tomatoey sauce on top of melted cheese. The Taco Gobernador ($3.99) was shrimp with mixed grilled vegetables: reminded me of eating a shrimp fajita. Finally, I need to stop ordering marlin tacos ($3.99) from now...am always disappointed since I am expecting it to be when I had fresh marlin steak in FL, and it's not like that. It's basically marlin shredded like canned tuna would be, stuffed into a taco. Service was OK: it's just hard to give great service when things are planned to be slow (and end up being so)...and the number of staff is matched to it. Our food came VERY quickly (as it tends to happen in a well run Mexican restaurant), but didn't see our server for a long time after that. I Love Mexican food and I love Mariscos even more. I'm not gonna lie I usually have mariscos when the hangover is real. I've been told and am a firm believer that this stuff along with a nice cold coca-cola helps with hangover. Located on a corner of a busy street on Long Beach Blvd you'll find Mariscos Los Buchones. This restaurant is actually pretty big, once you walk in you'll be blown away at how big it is. The inside of the restaurant looks very modern and redone, I was surprised.. the outside could have fooled me. If you drive around back they do have a few designated parking spots available at no cost. Let's get to the FOOD :) They immediately start you off with hot fresh chips and salsa. I'm not a fan of anything spicy, so if you aren't either I highly suggest you try a small sample of that salsa because I found it to be spicy and not like mild (I'm a weak sauce and mild is my type). I ordered the pascado shrimp cocktail and it was outstanding. The cocktail was loaded with fresh shrimp and all the works, it came with a side of limes and crackers. Next I ordered the aguachile and that was another outstanding dish, it came with a side of tostadas. The table was already prepared with utensils, and all side condiments that were needed (tapatio, ketchup, salt, pepper, etc) The staff was awesome! Immediately greeted and walked over to our seating area. The girls working the floor were very friendly and knowledgeable on the menu. They were very punctual on refills and checking to see if I needed anything more. I arrived at around noon on a Wednesday and we were seated right away. There was only one other group eating inside so I expected the service to be fairly quick. We did get our drinks and food in about 20 minutes but the waiter was not persistent enough and only came to our table to give us our food and then again to give us the bill (which we had to go up to her to pay since she didn't come back). We also asked about the happy hour specials since there is no separate menu about that and the waiter also wasn't too sure about the prices either. In case you're wondering certain alcoholic drinks are "around $4.50". I got the strawberry margarita and it was really good, definitely recommend. (Note: it is a frozen margarita). They have lots of options on their menu but the Aguachiles Molcajete caught my eye. It was delicious but extremely spicy!! Be aware of that because it's definitely not for everyone but I loved it. The food is okay, but it did seem like reheated leftovers. Some of our dishes came with sides of "fresh" chopped cabbage and radish. The radish we got looked .... brown. My dish was supposed to be served with a side of fresh chopped onions... there was a hair in those onions. When I pointed this out to one of the waitresses she was displeased with me, she did not apologize, she did not ask if we would like an actual clean side of chopped onions, and she did not bring any to replace it. And all he could offer me the one they had at the table, which is "salsa negra" but it's sweet. Like teriyaki. Not a good combination. I've been eyeing this place on the corner of 7th and LB Blvd for quite sometime now. Seeing that it's quite a large restaurant and has been in business in an area of high turnover, I was intrigued to check it out. My friends and I came on a weekday for lunch, and we were oddly the only ones there. As expected when not busy, the servers were attentive. My first impression of a Mexican restaurant is the salsa, and theirs did not disappoint. I ordered the pulpo y camarón (octopus and shrimp) ceviche tostada, which was pretty bland. The octopus also had a strange jelly substance on it. I also ordered the grilled fish taco. The fish was actually tenderly cooked and fresh! My boyfriend got the Camarones Culichi, which came with a decent amount of shrimp. That creamy, garlicky, cilantro sauce was everything though! It was quite rich, so we had to take some of it home. My friend ordered the 7 Mares. Although I saw another post that said it was bland, this broth was certainly not. It was well seasoned and had a nice aroma from the various vegetables and seafood that simmered in it. I have to knock a couple stars for that bland ceviche and odd jelly substance on the octopus. The soap dispenser in the bathroom didn't work either. However, you could get some of the soap from the top, but the soap also has a weird, gooey consistency too. read more
